Theres a lot of theaters in the Downtown Berkeley area but California Theatre has been my favorite. The seats are comfortable, the people are nice, and the student discount available for any show, at any time (just remember to show your ID). The movies here tend to not be the big blockbusters but the smaller, more "artsy" or indie movies instead.

Quaint, kind, and friendly little theatre. The main screen is very large and the movie watching is just as wonderful as youll get from any larger theatre. Theyre always showing very cool smaller films so you should be able to find something you like. Also all their old movie posters are free for you to take!

Has a tendency to be a bit on the musty side, but on the whole its kept pretty clean....despite all the lazy folks that just dump their trash on the floor, instead of taking it with them at the end of the movie, and putting it inside a garbage bin just out side the door, which they HAVE to pass to get out!

For a fun old movie theater this throwback is great. Snacks arent even as pricey as they could be. Dont expect your super giant IMAX like screens and youll be happy.

the downstairs theatre is the last, big screening room in berkeley. its worth extra planning to catch epic films when they show in that room.
