I visited the Alabama the first time as a child, during a family vacation, and it was awe inspiring. A couple years ago I had the opportunity to revisit it and it brought back a lot of the same feelings. I dont think this type of museum is for everyone but I think there is something to be enjoyed for most people. As a kid I enjoyed playing with the antiaircraft guns and walking the interior as if it were an adventure. It was bigger than life and now that I have returned it remains so. I would give 2 pieces of advice. 1. If you have any difficulty with steps, long walks, inclines, etc you may want to consider passing on this. I suffer from congestive heart failure and have a surgically repaired back so it was a challenge for me. I required numerous stops and needed to have a beverage with me at all times. If however if you are motivated to do so, as I was, there is an air conditioned room in the ships interior, or at least there was. 2. If youre tall watch your head. Im 66" and hit my head pretty hard on a beam within the interior. Which prompted me to sit in the aforementioned air conditioned area. But if you are in reasonably good health and have an interest in history, warfare, the navy, ships, etc this is an excellent way to kill a couple hours. Not to mention the USS Drum, the aircraft hangar, or the tanks on display which are all on property.

The USS Alabama and the Mobile Navy Park are must-see attractions for anyone interested in Naval warfare and history. The battleship is in excellent condition and continually being restored; visitors are free to roam the boat as they wish so long as they dont go into any under-repair areas. My son was enthralled by the large cannons on the main deck and was excited to be able to go inside the munitions and firing chamber. Visiting the USS Alabama also includes opportunities to step into the USS Drum, a Gato-class submarine put into service in 1941. There is a historic plane hangar on site as well as large planes, helicopters, tanks, and troop transports from WWII and Vietnam scattered throughout the park. Over night tours are available for large groups; due to sleeping accommodations, mixed gender trips are not available (there is only one bathroom/shower facility in the berthing area). Overnight visitors get to experience what it was like for the seamen on board the USS Alabama: bunks are stacked into four-high racks with 24" of vertical space in between. Those of us who were too tall to sleep in the racks were allowed to camp out on the large, comfortable couches in the ward room.

Visiting Pascagoula, MS from Indiana and yesterday my sister, my niece and nephew, and I decided to take a tour here which is in Mobile, Alabama! It was pretty pretty cool, wasnt expecting to see so much and all of the added details that make you really get an idea of life at that time on the battleship! My nephew loved the upper deck, as the inside and the lower we went into the ship kind of made him nervous and a tad bit scared lol. My niece pretty much loved it all and just being able to explore on our own. My sister and I, being in the healthcare field (pharmacy and nursing) really enjoyed seeing the area with the drs office, main sick bay, operating room, dental office, etc and seeing the old iv fluids and surgical instruments. We also loved the store and seeing how things like Snickers, butterfingers, soap, etc looked back then! We hated that we werent able to tour the USS Drum, because of how late we got there and everything closing, that would have really been nice to see. Other than not being able to tour the Drum and it being really hot in some lower parts of the battleship, it was a great experience and excellent way to explore a little part of history!

It was truly spectacular to see a battleship and submarine up close and personal! To drive onto the base, you play a small $2 parking type of fee and there are many planes and memorials along the way that are amazing to see. I found a coupon for a small discount from one of their brochures, otherwise, their admission is $15 at the time of this post. They also have a great app that you can download which is very good tool for touring everything. The battleship is unfortunately deteriorating, however, adds character to the whole experience. My 5 year old son was too scared to walk into the ship and submarines interior rooms and ladders, so we kept to the outside which we enjoyed tremendously. Theres a wonderful plane museum (on the way to the submarine) with some dogfight videos playing that we stopped to watch while we rested. Theres a gift shop and little coffee shop/cafe that I felt were somewhat over priced and not great quality. I didnt give this 5 stars due to a rude cashier and the cost of admission. Im glad we stopped, however, we wont be coming back on our next road trip through Mobile and itll be a while until our next visit.

Stopped here on our way back from NOLA and it was definitely a unique experience! The battleship is massive and exploring it all can take hours on its own. However, there is also a submarine, field full of tanks & other land vehicles, and a hanger full of airplanes, jets, helicopters & a jeep or two. The whole thing can easily take a whole day to complete and is well worth the entry price (they have discounts for AAA members). [Side Note/Tip: When touring the USS Drum (the submarine), somewhere within the vessel (I believe towards its center, but the exact place escaped me), there will be a ladder that allows you to peak into a small room. Im not sure if youre supposed to enter this room as the ladder falls short of the entry hatch making it difficult to enter, but if you can manage to pull yourself up and into this small quarters, you can get a peak through the subs periscope which gives you a view of the USS Alabama and the highway behind it. Pretty neat. ;D]

Wonderful day! Happy Anniversary! Servicemen & women did not disappoint with the mock battle! Thanks for the free admission or else I would not have been able to enter the grounds even with Sr. Citizens discount. Could have used a few benches/chairs for weaker visitors aboard ship near fan tail, if regulations permit. If others were like me, I was expecting rain, not so much constant sun. As soon as I felt myself getting dizzy during the battle, I started toward the gangway. There was such a huge crowd though, I thought I might faint before reaching shade. And I had actually come prepared with hat, water, & snack. Thanks for providing the tent with chairs. Drink machines empty at 1:30 PM. (I tried 2 of them, even at $3.) Perhaps for the next big event, coolers could be set near the tent for folks to buy water. It was my 1st visit since moving to AL. I came alone & didnt know what to expect. It was a great celebration! Will be back for next years.

it was a fun tour, but the state of the ship was despicable. The owners should replace the decks and all of the hardware in the smaller guns like the .50s and other AA guns. Some of the drums to the bofor cannons were rusted through, and the dual mounted .50s were missing the rubbed in the shoulder rests. I went to close a hatch to mess with my dad and bugs flew out from behind it. The one gun that has elevation and traverse controls still operation was missing one of the handles. It would have been much more fun if I would have been able to make the AA guns move up and down, and side to side. The most interesting part was getting in the 16in gun turret, but in the loading bay it looked just like a big hole; I think some parts were removed from in there. Also, the "flight simulator" was a disappointment, I had expected to have a joystick that I could have used to "fly" the plane, but it was just a video,
