This hotel is on the national registry of historical places and is part of the Curio Collection of Hilton properties. Only 25 Curio unique hotels in the world. Beautifully restored to keep with it original beauty, but have the upgrades needed to enjoy your stay comfortably. However there were a couple of minor issues that did occur during our stay. When I checked in I had no bath towels in my room, I called housekeeping and the phone was picked up by the front desk, I told them I was missing bath towels and was told that they would be delivered to my room right away, however I waited an hour and they did not arrive. I needed to leave for a business dinner and figured that housekeeping would let themselves in to deliver the towels, however when I arrived back to my room later that evening they were not there. I Did not call front desk again because it was late and I was tired and needed up early in the morning. Did receive towels when room was serviced the next day. A coworker staying in another room had an issue with her window in the bathroom severely leaking during a rain storm in the afternoon( curtains soaked and puddle on the bathroom floor), she reported it to the front desk and was told it would be taken care of right away and was not taken care of that day. And for myself and another coworkers room on his second day of his stay was not serviced before 3pm, as was mine on my 3rd day of stay. Also on our second day of stay while our group was sitting in the Pine room lounge the fire alarm went off and we were all asked to leave the lounge and go out front, which we did without issue and decided to leave the premises to go downtown for dinner while the fire alarm was taken care of, after waiting over 1/2 hour. While in the lounge we had ordered some cocktails and appitizers before the alarm went off and we had just received our drinks but not our appitizers when the alarm went off. We assumed that because we were asked to leave the lounge that we would not be charged but when we returned later that evening the bartender did present us with our tab for the cocktails we received earlier and did take off the appetizers. We did pay for this without complaint, however we believe due to the inconvenience we should not have been charged. My coworkers(5 of us) and I travel very frequently all over the country and we are all Diamond level guests for multiple years running so we were a little disappointed when we had such issues at a such a prestigious hotel. As I had said earlier that these were minor inconveniences as we are easy going and travel so frequently that we are accustomed to issues arising during some stays. Just wanted to let people know of ours, and in light of our experience I would still recommend staying at this facility and we are also booked again at this facility next week.

My husband and I have stayed here on business several times, so when we went to a VA Tech home game I asked specifically to stay at the Hotel Roanoke because of the past wonderful experiences wed had with this historic gem ... however if this had been my first stay, it would have been my last ... we checked in and were told that the queen room we had reserved MONTHS ago wasnt available ... basically they had overbooked and the fact we were not there first meant we didnt get one ?? She said we were getting an "upgrade" however to the Executive Level ... which meant a lounge with free snacks and drinks (for 30 more minutes) and free breakfast til 930 ... even though it was Sunday ... 930 am breakfast cut off ... in exchange we got two double beds instead of the queen ... we did go check out the lounge and even though there was 30 minutes til close ...the snacks consisted of candy and soda or water and 5 chicken wings ... the hostess with the attitude had no intention of refilling any of the multiple empty containers... we decided to eat at the pub which was the only good experience ... good food and service from the bartender ... we went into the room to find a note on the pillow addressed to someone other than us from the concierge... also found no soap to wash our hands ... my husband called for a late check out which was given ...noon ... that would have been great had I been able to sleep at all for the people in the hallway all night talking and laughing that literally sounded like they were in the room ... that calmed down about 430 am but rest assured before 9 the housekeeping staff were banging on the doors announcing housekeeping over and over ...only to be followed but constant banging doors and toilet lids ... yep I could hear the toilet lid banging next door ... I would expect this from a low end low cost facility but not this hotel that I had previously been enamored by ... my husbands association will hold conferences there this winter but rest assured I will insist on not being "upgraded" again ...

Very nice hotel. The downstairs lobbies, dining areas, and conference center facilities are immaculate. I was in town for the railroad history so being in a hotel that the railroad built was awesome. Im going to point out two awesome, yet probably under appreciated features. The three elevators across from the front desk are AWESOME! Vintage Otis elevators that will make any nerd excited! You will see two elevators, but there is a "hidden" third one around the corner in the little nook with the phone booths and ATM. The other feature would be the two phone booths, old style rotary phones with what looks like pretty old components. They are awesome. This is a pretty ritzy place, which is a plus for some people, kinda rubs me the wrong way. Living amongst the corn fields of Indiana, I couldnt even tell you where the nearest valet parking is, or the nearest place that has a doorman. While I dont require these services, nor do I prefer them, it is a novelty. There is a fairly hidden bar/club downstairs through a nearly unmarked door and there is an executive level of room, probably for the people who feel entitled. The regular rooms are smaller than any chain hotel, and the bathrooms in the rooms are more like cruise ship bathrooms. Thats just because the place was built in a different era so its fine. The AC worked just fine, matter of fact by turning the fan "on" instead of "auto", our room reached a brisk 61 degrees by midnight. The hotel is situated just across the railroad tracks from downtown, so everything you could want is just a short walk via the pedestrian bridge! Would visit again.

My wife and I had our wedding in the courtyard and our reception in the Crystal Ballroom. Ill start by saying that the hotel is gorgeous and that the Chefs, the bartenders, and Lauren with the catering department were awesome, but the rest of the hotel experience let us down in so many ways and some were unprofessional on numerous occasions. I booked the governors suite nearly a year in advance, yet the hotel "lost our reservations" yet someone with Ms. Virginia (the pageant contestants stayed there the same weekend as our wedding) magically was able to have our room for the weekend. They did offer some comps to help with the problem, yet werent willing to admit what they had done. It wouldnt have been such a big deal if we hadnt had a social and wedding photos planned from the rooftop balcony, but my wife had looked forward to those arrangements for nearly 10 months. Many of our wedding favors and personalized items were not transferred to our wedding planner in time and as a result did not make it out for our guests. Their accounting department called me for "collections" for deposits when I had already prepaid them, and one of the representatives tried to have me sign for a final bill while I was being escorted to our grand exit DURING the wedding reception. Very unprofessional and sadly left a bad taste in our mouths for the hotel. What should have been a place we looked forward to staying in years down the road, now is a place we will not frequent in the future. They greatly let us down.
