The Red Heifer Winery is a small winery and vineyard in Smithsburg, MD with great wines and a great atmosphere. The winery is situated on the crest of a hill and has a beautiful view. You can walk through the vineyard while you drink your wine, sit on the patio, or bring blankets and food and have a picnic on the huge lawn. They are also dog friendly. During the warmer months there is regular outdoor music, which draws a big crowd – people bring blankets and picnic food and spread out on the grass – really low key and a lot of fun. They have a good variety of wine and the owners/winemakers are always friendly and available to answer questions and make recommendations. Red Heifer is a lot of fun and I highly recommend visiting.

I have visited many wineries in the tri-state area and found Red Heifer to be the best, in wine quality, value and atmosphere. The owners are extremely friendly, knowledgeable and make the best tasting wine I have ever enjoyed. I prefer the sweeter wines like Sweet Heifer, Catawba and Niagara but for you real wine aficionados their aged dry wines are equally outstanding. They should enter some of the regional wine competitions because they would win gold in many different categories.

WOW...this winery is a hidden treasure! The wines are DELICIOUS and the owners are very down to earth! I am so glad I decided to take the quick trip to taste some wines for Christmas gifts and of course left with a few bottles for myself. They really have a wine for anyone and everyone at Red Heifer. I am pleasantly surprised at how crisp and clean each wine finished on my palette. Im definitely a fan! Thank you Red Heifer!

Happened upon this lovely place by chance. The sweet whites are to die for! Well all of their wine is! Cattawbe was my favorite. The owners were very inviting which is nice when so far from home. Thank you to the red heifer for the wonderful wine and nice friendly atmosphere. I hope I can either get someone back home to carry their wine or that I can come back!

Great wines. Whether you like red or white, sweet or dry. You will find something you like. The Cabernet was special. The Chardonnay crisp and fresh. The view is amazing. The staff was knowledgable and friendly. The music was a great bonus. I will be back again and again.

Real nice experience...the mountain scenery is wonderful and so is the selection of wine. We lounged around and enjoyed Niagara...but their samples run dry to sweet. We felt like we were visiting old friends that enjoy sharing the fruit of their labors.

We went with an 8 person bachelorette party and had a great time! We got to enjoy a group wine tasting outside listening to the live music. We loved hearing this history of the winery and loved supporting a local business that made us feel like family!

My friend and I drove over an hour and a half out of our way (one way) to go there. They advertised on their website they were open, on the sign up to the winery and on the door. We parked and found no one was there and it was a total waste of time.
