I crossed my threshold in December, when I brought in 8 people and the bartender upstairs (some hipster, long haired, 80s look alike doof) ignored me. Straight up ignored me. My friends couldnt even believe it. They had to literally point to me to get me any service. And when I went downstairs to grab two beers (one for me and one for my girlfriend) they asked if they were both for me. Apparently only one beer a customer? Uhh what? Every bar, pub and microbrewery IN THE WORLD outside of this little brewpub in Ardmore, never questions two beers. Ok...weirdos. Get off your high horse... This place is run by pretentious (popular word on here as so many people bring that up about them) d bags. Owned, runned and operated. Lets take this for example. Their "Growler Fill Policy": We will fill only Tired Hands branded growlers. We built our tap towers to be THE specific height to accommodate both our 32oz and 64oz growlers. This allows for precise control when filling OUR growlers. When we fill other growler formats, we tend to lose a good bit of beer down the drain due to improper filling technique. We also give a good bit of beer away for free when filling various other growlers, as they max out at 68 oz. Stainless steel growlers are cool, but do not allow us to monitor fill levels and are also very difficult to inspect making the possibility of filling a moldy/dirty growler much more likely. Also, at the end of the day, we are exceedingly proud to put our name on what we make. Ego aside, we believe that this is only fair and hope you folks understand. Yeah, I saw on more than one occasion, a bartender SPILL beer while filling their OWN GROWLER. BUCK UP! You want the money. Nothing was specially crafted. Your Growlers look like everything else on the market. Sure, this place has good food. Very cool looking joint. And sure the beer is tasty. But I am over their attitude. There are tons of new breweries opening up every day with great customer service and just as good, if not, better beer to boot.

My 2 stars come from their customer service and how they treated our party. Nothing to do with the beer or food, which is - of course - great quality. We were celebrating a wedding and had a small party of 5 people. We were enjoying our beers at the Fermentaria & our best friend arrived late. We ordered some food for him to go (from Tired Hands Fermentaria). We brought the food over to the Brew Cafe, ordered appetizers and some beers, and our friend ate his hamburger (once again, from Tired Hands Fermentaria). Staff came over to our table and instructed our friend that he could not eat food from outside. We explained that it was from their own establishment right next door, even offering the receipt. They did not care. He was forced to eat his entree outside, in the cold. It was incredibly frustrating for me, I hadnt seen my friend in a few years and this completely soured my experience at the Brew Cafe. I understand that you have an image to maintain, but sometimes you should take a step back and look at the situation logically. Its completely ridiculous and incredibly poor customer service. Id completely understand if we brought McDonalds into your establishment, but we brought your own food! Was disappointing. At least you have good beer.

Difficult place to park at. Pretty poor service overall. I have consistently stood at the bar when its slow and waited five plus minutes to even be acknowledged. Same deal with table service. Everybody just seems inattentive. The beer is usually good. I say usually because recently the beers they have been producing do not meet the lofty standards associated with the iconic brewery. Lacking any real flavor, uniqueness, and in some instances any real quality. The variation can to can and keg to keg is substantial and only getting worse. I used to accept the somewhat pretentious tired hands attitude but now I dont think they can back it up and I virtually never show up to can releases or even to just have a beer, not to mention they refuse to fill any growler that doesnt have their brand on it; even if the growler is blank. The trip isnt worth it to me.

The food is nice, the atmosphere is nice, the beer is good, but I cant help but feel that the bartenders look down upon customers as if theyre somehow better than us because they work at a hype brewery. Ive been here three times and each time the bartenders have been civil at best and mildly condescending at worst. I probably wont come here again unless a friend wants to check it out. The beer is overhyped, its damn good, but too many people hyping it up because its local. Also get some flights. I feel like I piss off the bartender every time I order a small pour. Well hey man yeah I come here to try all of your beers. You constantly brew new stuff so I want to try as many as I can. I was explained that with flights the beer gets warm and flat. I can see that to a degree, but on the other hand good beer is best after a few minutes from a cold tap.

The beer is over priced, especially if you want to fill a growler. Some beer is very good but for the most part they over charge and are definitely taking advantage of being located in a wealthy area. The inside of the bar at this location is really neat, especially the upstairs area. Its an old rustic space with brick walls and is interesting. But if you go here on the weekend the upstairs bar closes early and you will be yelled at if you try and go upstairs. They are very unprofessional about it and rude. I had friends drinking upstairs and tried to join them and was yelled at for going upstairs, and then the bartender upstairs, who wanted to leave, gave me a hard time for needing a beer and was a real jerk. They are obviously making money and dont care about being hospitable.

Review applies to beer only: Because this place calls itself a brewing company I feel it appropriate to rate it based upon the four beers I had throughout the night. Simply put, the beers were one dimensional. In other words the IPA was full of hops and thats it. The sour beer was sour and thats it, and the saison was just raisins and way too sweet. Theyre supposed to be complex, not refreshing and effervescent. I wont even mention the hand cask momosa. So, 0 for 4 on the beers.... Service was fine and the grilled cheeses and sandwiches looked incredible. I give them props for sourcing local foods for their limited menu! Cliff notes - dont go there for the beer alone!

Jean has always been a good brewer even during his Iron Hill days. His beers are good but sometime extend into tastes that may be too sophisticated for the palette of the average beer drinker. At times, the beers border on art. The place is crowded because the food is great and the beers can be, at times, very good. But service is always the last mile. The "our beer is to good for you" attitude drips into every seam of the business. Theres no reason for this except that Jean is not a restaurateur but an artisan. So the faux-intellectual staff tend to beer (bear) an attitude which ruins what could be one of the best beer experiences in the area.
