I want to start by saying the artist (yelawolf) performing put on one hell of a show. Here is my problem with the Barrymore Theater, terrible security, lack of space in front of the stage, drinks were extensively overpriced. I’m not sure if whoever was in charge of organizing the concert was aware of the crowd yelawolf draws or how his audience acts. They clearly did not do there research and security was way understaffed. Security had absolutely no control and pure chaos erupted once the main act was on stage. My girlfriend and I were trampled by an out of shape security guard who was attempting to escort someone out for fighting. (He broke my girlfriend’s foot) Then when I got angry about it they asked me to leave. When the security escorted out unruly guests, they escorted them to the entrance of the theater and not out the door. People were getting kicked out and walking in another door and right back to the mosh pit. They had three "security" guards by the mosh pit, two by the door and that was all i saw. The out of shape security guards were winded and limping after the opening act. The concert would have been the best I’ve been to if it wasn’t for these downfalls. I refuse to return to The Barrymore because of this. $12 dollars for a single mixed drink is outrageous. Might i add when i bought a double they simply put more coke with my one shot of whiskey.

Let me start out by saying, Ive attended many concerts and live comedy shows at the Barrymore and the sound, theater, and venue are of nice quality and do have a certain charm about it. I would say the venue is lacking in parking. In addition, the website is pretty frustrating and confusing for online ticketing purchases - despite being an experienced online shopper. Last, every time I have ever had any issue with the venue (Ive had repeated issues mostly in ticketing services: pick-up, purchasing, and re-entry), I have not been treated as a valued customer; rather, I was treated rudely, and blamed and accused of being unintelligent even when the theater did not specify their policies. I honestly think the most recent interaction was so negative and disrespectful that I will never return to this theater. I understand that a few employees do not always accurately reflect the overall service of the institution, but the fact that these issues have occurred multiple times over multiple years is alarming. Great theater aesthetics, but awful service and customer care.

The Barrymore is an outstanding venue for music or comedy. Its movie theater in structure, with a fairly large stage, so its easy to see and hear everything. Theres no dance floor per se, but theres enough space in front of the stage for 50+ people to get down if the mood strikes. They offer a good variety of food and beverage, including a full bar, at reasonable prices. One not about buying tickets. They sell online and at some record stores up until the day of a show, but not at their own location. On the day of the show, you can no longer buy tickets at record stores or online, but you can buy on site.

The Barrymore is a quirky, vintage theater in the heart of Madison. Theres not a bad seat in the house and the smaller size of the theater makes whatever you see more intimate. You can bring drinks in, but the line to get drinks is atrocious. The only other down side is the bathrooms are tiny and tucked away in the basement. Overall a fun experience!

Theater is OLD, but the music sounds so darn good here! Was blown away at the last concert i attended, clearest sounding music venue i have ever attended. Not thrilled with the standing only area in front which isnt big enough, but who cares, the music sounds soooo good!

Have seen shows here in the past and enjoyed them, recently saw two shows and the audio at both was terrible. Multiple issues with feedback, muted and unintelligible vocals - I will not be going back. I would rather travel out of town than see a band here again.

The Barrymore is one of those classic, old style theres. From the arches painted across the walls to the stars (that actually sparkle) on the ceiling, this place has a really cool ambiance. Great for local acts, concerts, and especially comedians.

The Barrymore has some excellent movies and performances throughout the year! Its venue provides a great atmosphere and seems quite historic. We would highly recommend going here for a date or night out sometime! Its casual and fun.

It is a little dingy, but its actually kind of charming. This place used to be a movie theater, and it still has a similar layout. The sound has been good every time Ive seen a show here. Also, I love their tickets.

this is a classic theater, ive seen all sorts of shows here, some this venue doesnt really work for (seats for sleather kinney) the floor level seats should be removable, itd make it a much more versatile place.

This place appears to be dirty and run down. The sight lines are usually terrible, the bathrooms are disgusting. Get a tetanus shot before you see anything at this dive.

Great vintage venue with the coolest twinkling star ceiling. I have seen some great shows here from Green Day back in the 90s to John Waters this winter.

Saw a great comedy show there about a year ago. Place shows its age but that doesnt really matter. Theres a stage with some seats, so its a fine venue.

Brings in good acts. Sometimes gets really warm (not the best heating/cooling) Had beer here which was pricey and mostly foam.

Great place for live music. Was a bit warm inside, the last time we visited, due to standing-room-only crowd!

A charming local staple for great music, comedy and more. But it could use a good restorative renovation.
