Overture Center..Madison 11 11 2010 Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano This is one of the most enjoyable shows I’ve ever seen, ever heard. Every musician was outstanding and mulit-talented. The group backed Linda Ronstad’s album “Canciones de Me Padre” (Songs of the Father), 1988. I bought the CD as soon as it came out, to add to my selection of Mexican Folk…have enjoyed playing it many times over the years since. So when I heard on the radio they would be coming to Madison, man! I was at the ticket booth asap. The group played 12 sets nonstop…folk songs of Mexico and modern romantics. A couple of dancers added color but the music took it all…and my congratulations to the sound mixer..Super job! The audience was really into it, especially from half way on. They were singing along to the songs, and the mariachis were having as much fun as the audience. Even tho the theatre was only ¾ full (I think every Mexican in the county was there), the applause and singing was more than a full house. Toward the end of the show, when several of the mariachis came down from the stage and danced with the audience, the whole house stood up and was dancing, swaying, at their seats. It was not hard to realize this group won the top awards (Grammys and more) over the years…every single member could be counted in the group of top Mexican singers…right out of Hollywood. The young Mexican girls in the audience with their cheering voices after every number, caught the rest of the audience…the older, more reserved Chicanos and we gringos, into the swing of things and, by God, we were cheering too, even dancing … and we didn’t want to let them off the stage at the end. To whoever arranged this….thank you, thank you…..it was a night to be remembered. Jim Kirchstein…Mt Horeb

Amanda Caldwell-Jernigan (Wedding & Events Coordinator, Catering a Fresco) and Taralinda Willis (Event Coordinator, Overture Center) are the dynamic duo that you dream of having for your big day. After seeing the Overture Center when my now husband and I went searching in Madison last year, it quickly became clear to us that it was exactly where we should have our wedding - and what sealed the deal were the immediate and awesome relationships that we formed with Amanda and Taralinda. Their dedication to the big and little things, their flexibility, consideration, meticulousness, and going above and beyond with planning a wedding where the bride and groom reside in Illinois, my parents are in New Jersey, and the wedding is in Wisconsin - was absolutely tremendous, and they executed everything with ease. They made the entire planning and execution process stress-free, simple to navigate in every way possible, and made our special day the best day of our lives so far. We had our ceremony on the Overture Hall Main Stage (which we highly recommend to all you music and theater fans out there!), the cocktail hour in the Promenade Lobby and the reception in the Main Lobby downstairs. Overall, everything was spectacular, the food was remarkable, and we danced the night away! We highly recommend them as well as the Overture Center for a wedding or any catered event!

Tis review is for a wedding done this past weekend. I wanted to highlight a few people that went above and beyond for the happy couple. Christina was our event manager all day long and she was phenomenal. She was on top of every detail and was always friendly and available. She made our lives so much easier and I don t know what we would have done without her. Amanda, the catering manager, was a shining star too! She helped us pull out a super secret surprise (with the help of the ever so friendly Jason in tech), and she was always checking in and making sure the bride and groom were taken care of. Being an event planner myself, its nice to see people going above and beyond their expected roles and being such great supports to the couples. I would highly recommend the Overture for any wedding or event due to the supportive staff! Other shout outs to Molly and Jane in catering. Molly was so kind and helped us clean up at the end of the night and did it with such sweetness and kindness. Jane helped us get milk last minute before the ceremony to help calm a very cranky two year old! Her quick moving ways helped us avoid a near catastrophe the day of. Thank you all for your hard work, I know what you do is hard work (as I do it too) and so I want you to know you are appreciated greatly!!!

I ordered a gift certificate for my brother back on Friday, 12/12, to be mailed from the Overture Center (Madison) to my house in Sturtevant. I assumed with two weeks in advance ordering from two hours away that it would be mailed in time for Christmas. When the mail came on 12/17 and I had not received it yet, I wrote a quick email just asking when it might come. I was informed by a staff member that they were all mailed out Monday, 12/15, and that I will have it by the weekend. By Christmas Eve, 12 days after purchase, it still had not arrived. I wrote them again since they were closed expressing how unsatisfied I was with their timeliness and miscommunication and I asked for a refund, since I clearly could no longer give it as a gift for Christmas. The response I received was not apologetic or even diplomatic. It was plain rude. Whoever answered me repeated what I was already misled to believe, made excuses for themselves with USPS range time, refunded my money, and told me to rip up the gift certificate when it arrives because "it is now worth nothing." And now even, 12/30, it has yet to arrive. Horrible customer service. Very disappointed.

We recently had our wedding at the Overture and the space is absolutely beautiful! Even though we were in the main lobby where the ceilings and architecture are tall and open, the space is still intimate. The catering staff/managers were informed and professional, quick workers and provided amazing service the night of the wedding and the hectic week before. The Overture wedding coordinator could have been a bit more helpful and failed to respond to a few emails, causing a last minute room layout/table numbering mix up. But the catering staff was quick to help me solve the problem. Food was amazing. Pricey, but guests came away remembering good food, not boring or bland food, so that was plus. We were a little disappointed at the way the bar pricing was set up. We ended up paying triple the cost of a cheap beer we wanted for our guests, which was a little hard to swallow. Overall, the Overture Center was an amazing space, professional staff, fantastic food, great catering staff, decent organization from the wedding coordinator, and absolutely amazing location for a downtown Madison wedding.

Beautiful venue with morons in charge of it. Attended a Matisyahu concert and had purchased VIP tickets. They would not let me enter the venue to pick up my VIP passes from the merchandise table. My family and I were treated rudely by staff working the event and then were told we would have to stand in line in order to be seated despite the fact very few people turned out. After the concert was over and about 35 VIP ticket holders were waiting to do a meet and greet. The same rude individual in charge basically came in and seemed astonished by our presence. He demanded that we leave the venue area immediately and almost in chorus we told him where he could go. I will never attend the Overture again. They are obviously not up to the task of having guests because whomever is in charge is a public relations nightmare. As to the friendly ushers that were working, thank you, I feel bad that you have such poor managers.
