The Maxwell Mansion was the reception venue for our wedding on October 11, 2014. WOW! What a beautiful historic property! From the minute we visited the Mansion with Anna T, we knew we found our spot. From the craftsmanship inside the mansion, to the gorgeous grounds and unique character…there was an abundance of appeal throughout the entire property. The property was exquisitely landscaped... I can only imagine the time and patience that goes into maintaining the beauty of the property. (Our pictures turned out STUNNING!!!!!! Hillary and Eric Quella--- you are MAGICAL!!) The mansion was recently renovated and we were able to enjoy the upgraded suites and bedrooms, while our guests enjoyed the BRAND NEW Maxwell Stables (hotel rooms- ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!) that were right behind the Mansion. My guests were beyond impressed with the way the rooms were done and many brought that inspiration home to their houses here in Chicago. Planning a wedding from Chicago isn’t the easiest thing to do, but Anna worked SO hard to make sure every detail was absolutely perfect. There are not enough THANKS to go around. Paula and Heather also worked their butts off from the day we arrived on Friday, until the party ended on Sunday. I have never met a harder working crew…and we are SO grateful that we got to enjoy this property for our wedding day…and keep coming back for anniversaries! We held our no seating chart reception in the tent in the front yard (Sperry Tents provided a gorgeous tent and lighting and Pesche’s created the most gorgeous floral arrangements I have ever seen) and in the ballroom inside the Mansion. We wanted our guests to enjoy every part of the mansion and not feel like they were stuck in one place like at normal receptions. They were also able to walk the mansion, sit in the front sitting rooms, enjoy the photo booth room (a vintage, red velvet, VERY large couch!) and enjoy the beautifully lit brick patio in the back of the Mansion where there were tables, couches and more seating. We had food stations for dinner that were in the “red room” and in the front parlor, where guests could help themselves to an array of food…which was absolutely delicious! We heard SO many great things back from our guests…and the best part; none of it was wasted because people could keep going back for seconds. Our main bar was inside the mansion in the apothecary bar… so COOL! The vintage vibe of the mansion was just so surreal. It was awesome to see all of our guests have an amazing time. We ended the night in the speakeasy bar in the basement, which again, had such a cool atmosphere. The tables were old whiskey barrels and the walls were covered with news clippings from the 1920’s. There was a piano, which of course, was played by our drunk guests. I cannot say enough good things about this place! Anna, Heather, Paula- thank you SO MUCH!! We cannot wait to come back every year to celebrate our anniversary!

Before finding Maxwell Mansion, I had originally booked at a different hotel that I was not excited about. I was told to call the weekend before to check for availability, and was desperately hoping they would have something special to help us celebrate our anniversary. I spoke with a woman named Lisa, told her about my other hotel situation and she was more than happy to help! She was outstanding actually! She sent over different virtual tours of each room, went above and beyond to accommodate a one-night stay, and was able to get me very excited again for our anniversary celebration. She even sent complimentary champagne and roses to our room!!! Lisa, and the staff, are extremely professional, kind and knowledgeable, which is super important to me given that it was my first time taking a trip to Lake Geneva. When we arrived, the room blew my expectations out of the water. It was immaculate, super clean all around, the bed was super comfy, the bathroom was spotless, and it was everything I thought it could be and more! In addition, the hotel has great amenities, like a pool and bocce ball, as well as secret spot (you have to ask about it, or go find it for yourself)! On our last day, Lisa was actually there, and I was able to meet her and thank her in person. She clearly loves her job, and it is evident that she is passionate about what she does! We are definitely coming back next year for our anniversary and for a longer stay to take in the full experience!

FABULOUS HISTORICAL MANSION AND CARRIAGE HOUSE. We stayed here for a couple of nights this past week to celebrate our anniversary. This was our first visit to Lake Geneva, and Maureen was immensely helpful with recommendations of where to go, where to eat, shop, and walk all over town. She MADE the stay for us. We loved her sense of humor, welcoming manner, and willingness to help us in any way we needed. She even took the time to walk us over to our room, made sure we had kcups we actually liked, and showed us around the mansion. She really wanted us to have a great experience, and went the extra mile to make that happen. Our room was beautifully decorated, we had coffee and tea options galore for our room, a nice jetted tub, modern bath with a stable feel. It all fit so nicely together. The gardens out front are beautiful and full of color. The pool and patio out back are very welcoming and spacious with comfortable seating and lounging areas. Enjoy some bocce ball out back or sit by the fire pit in the evening, too! This place was wonderfully located within walking distance to anything we needed the entire stay: docks/boat tours, restaurants, shopping in town, park, nature preserve, and a great diner for breakfast as well. We highly recommend the Maxwell Mansion for a great stay in Lake Geneva with that extra touch of class and charm.

My wife and I had an incredible experience staying here for our honeymoon. We had one of the rooms at the carriage house booked for Tuesday - Thursday night during the week. We were running a bit late on Tuesday and were told over the phone that we wouldnt have a problem checking in. The staff are incredible and accommodating. Bethany (who owns the place) has decorated it beautifully with so many interesting pieces. Beth, who showed us to our room and was around the grounds during our stay is funny and charming. The bartender, with whom we spoke a few times, was great and Poncho, the groundsman, was very pleasant and always offered to turn on the lights for the Bocce ball court. Having gone in mid-October, the pool was closed, but the Mansion is close enough to downtown to be able to walk. They have fun events too. Thursday night, we got to go to a real speak easy in the underground level. It was great fun and they had a piano player who was singing Billy Joel, the Beatles, etc... I really can not recommend this place highly enough. Such a charming place in a beautiful city. Just be sure to go in the Fall after the Chicagoans have all left.

We were looking for a getaway spot that did not have a hotel or resort feel, off the beaten path and private, yet close to everything as we enjoy walking Lake Geneva and photographing all of its wonders. We found it at the Maxwell Mansion. We were greeted warmly by Beth. She made us feel welcomed and at home immediately as she showed us around the house. The rooms are beautifully done, comfortable, the Jacuzzi was wonderful and the shower amazing. If you ask nicely, there is an private movie theater to enjoy :} Thank you Beth and crew for making us feel at home... away from home. We found the perfect place ! We will be back ! Suggestions: Post directions on how to use the steam shower and Jacuzzi as well as TV channel guide. A nice touch would have been to have the ice bucket already filled with bottled water in it. The storm doors at the Carriage House need some sort of mechanism to stop them from slamming shut as people come and go. See you again soon :}
