The food was alright, depends on what you order; however, it is very overpriced. The drinks too, very overpriced. We had a group of people there and were charged $60.00 for a bottle of Malibu rum. Seriously - $60.00! The wait staff were very good, especially when you consider they work for free. Yes - they do not receive a paycheck - all they get are the tips left to them by the customers. And lets hope the customers have not run into Bethany - the wife who owns the property with her not often seen husband (I would hide too if I was married to her). I have dealt with numerous types of people throughout my life and I have to say, Bethany by far is the rudest, most self-centered narcisistic person I have ever had to encounter, let alone have any type of dealings with. She does not care about her customers - only her customers fat wallets. She will gouge every penny she can possibly get out of you and try to make it sound like she is deserving of it and that you should be greatful she is giving you any of her precious time. Yes - this is real life, not made up. The rooms are beautiful - and Bethany, given the chance, will make sure to let you know that the matresses cost $10,ooo and were flown in from some other country that no one else can get, the sheets are the finest, they were written up by this and that, blah blah blah. By the time you are done being talked to by Bethany, you wont need to eat - youll need to drink - plenty! While the location is great, there is no pool, no game room, no pool table, no activities. There is only the onsite restaurant and bar - because those bring in extra money. And while it is a beautiful place, to pay as much as $500.00 for a room with curtain rods as your closet and a shower/steam room so poorly designed that everything in the room is wet when you come out of your shower, is way overpriced. Make sure you have plenty of patience when you try to call for a reservation (should you decide to) as you will have to listen to Bethany go on and on and on, showing off her newly found vocabulary skills, until she is done saying what she wants to say (because when Bethany is speaking - dont even TRY to say something, nothing else matters when Bethany is talking), then you can leave a message so that days can go by until someone decides to call you back.

This was the best experience my wife and I have ever had at a hotel or B&B of any kind. Its not like weve sampled the worlds finest establishments or anything, but I have a hard time imagining this level of pampering being offered anywhere else. They watched for us as we drove up, so that before we were out of our car there was someone out the door greeting us. Complimentary champagne was offered multiple times for various reasons. As guests we were given free access to the murder mystery cocktail party on Saturday night, a discounted deck table for the decadent champagne brunch (easily the swankiest brunch buffet weve ever seen), great concierge service, access to a private upper floor with a beautiful lake-facing sun parlor, the right to have coffee, tea, water, alcohol, breakfast (homemade croissants are divine), etc. delivered to you wherever you are in the house, and near complete privacy when the hotel costs to the public. This last point was the most important to me. The Baker House is no longer a restaurant, so its only open as a bar, for brunch, and for tours of the first floor. When it closes, the only people present are some staff and the occupants of the 4 rooms on the second floor, and it actually feels like this decadent mansion is your own for a time. You can lounge around in the various rooms, play with the dozens of games and hats (the house is filled with unique hats to try on), read the books stacked everywhere and admire the antiques as if youre right at home. One of our favorite experiences was getting the entire bar (in fact, the entire lower level) to ourselves for an hour at night, chatting in the dim light with soft jazz in the background. It was like being in a scene from a noir film. We stayed in the Champagne Room, which boasted a fireplace and a shower that blasts you from 6 directions, among other things. Also, it seems like every single staff member knows your name and your occasion, which is great. Also, the mansion is next to the lake, which is absolutely gorgeous and offers a great number of possible daytime activities, my favorite being extensive shoreside "trails" which literally wind through the yards, across the docks, and between the structures of the largest and most luxurious lakeside mansions Ive seen.

What a STUNNING property! The Baker House holds so many treasured memories in my heart and it all started last December. My boyfriend took me to tour the Maxwell Mansion and visit the Baker House as future venues for our wedding. Little did I know, he was going to propose in the Baker House once the tour was over. It was magical and I was blown away at the beauty of everything!! We knew that this was where we would say “I do” in October of 2014. We locked in October 11, 2014 and was able to secure our ceremony at the Baker House! The Baker House is immaculately decorated and kept in the most pristine condition. From the décor, to the glassware to the unique tables, it offers such a variety of vintage touches. The food at the Baker House is absolutely delicious! Each dish is made with love and consideration and you can tell it’s all made from scratch and from recipes that are unique. Their pretzel bites are to die for!!! So delicious and simple; it was one of our late night snacks at our reception at the Maxwell Mansion. Everyone at the Baker House makes your stay absolutely luxurious and perfect…there is no middle here. It’s all high end service. On the day of our wedding, our guests sat outside, in the front yard. The landscaping of the property was gorgeous and didn’t need any additional help from our florist. There was no need when everything looked like a fairytale to begin with. With the sun shining, no clouds in sight and a beautiful afternoon, we couldn’t have asked for a better day. The Baker House was able to accommodate our larger wedding (175 guests) and they all sat comfortably. The day after our wedding, we went to the Baker House for their famous Sunday brunch. What a feast! Their spread of food was incredible. From their beef stews, to the French toast, to the pastries… the list could go on and on. It was a great way to end the weekend with family and friends! The Baker House is such a fantastic bed and breakfast, venue for weddings, place for dinners and brunches, and you will not be disappointed!!

Very overpriced, loud, and poor service. We sat at table 35, on 3/17/2012. Server C? My girlfriend and I visited the Baker House at 8:30 pm as a walk-in. We were seated by a kind, friendly hostess who explained the historical part of the house very well. The house is beautiful, and creates an ambiance of an old turn of the century mansion. However, I feel that it is a tourist trap. The menu is almost like bar food. We ordered the she-crab soup, caprese wedge, crab cakes, BBQ pork sliders, and the creme brule. The soup tasted like it was a tomato paste soup with crab. The salad is not a "wedge." It was whole pieces of romaine lettuce with a tomato and mozzarella balls for 12.00. RIP OFF! The crab cakes were immensely small. The BBQ pork sliders were the overpriced "bar food." Our service was horrible! The hostess had to bring our drinks. Our waitress seemed like she terribly tense about life, serving us, and the fact that she was busy. It was like we were asking her for the specials while she was running away from us. Toward the end of the evening she told us that the" kitchen was closing", and began to clear tables. She used her hand to wipe off two tables and chairs. That the put the icing on the cake! She made us so nervous, that we will never return. Very overpriced, loud, and poor service.
