I come here very often. I am a graduate student at UW La Crosse and enjoy drinking coffee. They make good pour overs and their consistent and very specific food menu of multiple crepe options and chili and chocolate chip oatmeal cookies can be good snacks. The interior is eclectic and made out of a lot of reclaimed furniture; the aesthetic is that of a coffee shop operating out of a run down apartment and THAT IS THE POINT. There are holes in the ceiling and wobbly tables. Its also quite dark, so its not much of a homework or business spot. Lots of great music is played in this space (live and otherwise). I recommend the Root Note as a daily hang out option, but not for someone looking to get some homework done or for those that prefer an open space, minimalist, well-crafted edges type of coffee spot like you see a lot in other markets. The Root Note does an awesome job and markets to a specific clientele in near perfection. As a part of this clientele, I must say I love this place.

The root note is a good place, but if youre going just for coffee, Id advise another place. Youre going to pay a little more, but youre paying for the environment more than the drinks. It is beautifully and tastefully decorated though it can be very dim. The environment is very calming, and gives a sense of serinity, though it isnt quiet. If it was brighter, however, it wouldnt be as nice. I do recommend 8t t9 my friends.

Good service but a little too laid back- Ive had to remind them of my coffee or food twice now, they dont seem to have high volume so orders seem to fall thru the cracks at times. Other than that, great atmosphere, fast Internet, great mix of people from blue collar men in work boots to obnoxious teens, mostly quiet young adults though. The coffee is great, crepes are crazy good, prices are reasonable. Overall excellent!!

The staff at The Root Note were friendly and knowledgeable about their menu. We came in the middle of the afternoon where it was a tough decision between coffee and their other offerings of beer and wine. In the end we got a mocha, good; chai, delightful with a good balance of milk and spice; and Italian sodas made which had a delicate flavour that suggest an in house concoction.

A great time all around. The vibe was chill, the baristas...fantastic...the food was great but I only had the chili but will be coming back way more to critic the food. After living in La Crosse for 10 years, leaving for 5 and just now coming back to it, it was nice to finally find a place there that I truly felt comfortable in.

Such a cool vibe walking into the place. The staff is top notch and the coffee and food are even better. When we were leaving we wanted some to go food for our kids. The gals at the counter helped in making an off menu yogurt parfait that my kids truly enjoyed. Next time Im in lacrosse Im stopping in for sure

Friendly and delicious. Root Note regularly has live music and activities at night. They also have one of the more unique collections of on-tap beer in La Crosse. They tend to more Wisconsin beer than many bars. Their Crepes are amazing, and you cant go wrong ordering a mixed drink.

Great atmosphere with wonderful coffee and crepes! The Cremlin is the best (if you like mushrooms)! Nice beer selection too, with lots of local options. Frequent live music on a cozy, tree-framed stage, along with WiFi and board games to play make it a great place to hang out!

The best organic restaurant experience I have ever had. The atmosphere was so calming and laid back. The waiters were so friendly and accommodating . The food was farm to table fresh as could ever be. Anyone who loves organic food would fall in love with this place !

Its very much a college hangout, and if youre not part of that crowd, youll likely feel out of place. The food and drinks are hit and miss, and there isnt a lot of seating for a place as large as it is. The people behind the counter have always been friendly, though.

Along with The Bodega, this is my go-to place in La Crosse for meeting up with friends. Great for coffee/tea during the day and an impressive beer selection at night. Always good tunes playing in the background and a friendly staff to make you feel welcome.

Awesome eclectic coffee shop. Youre greeted by goldfish in an old freestanding tub at the entrance, quickly followed by a greeting by the awesome staff. Live music, great coffee, and great beer makes for a great place to relax.

Theres crepes and stuff are bangin but they only take cash and that in my book is an L by default. Im not going to go through why you shouldnt only take cash as a restaurant in 2017.
