Best of both worlds! Turning your hobby or passion into a viable, bill paying business is a pretty hard thing to do, and failed businesses close their doors nearly every day. In the last 4 years or so, Cory and the Co-Op crew have successfully taken his passion for tropical fish, combined with some solid business savvy, and built a thriving, high quality, eco-friendly and customer service oriented tropical fish store. Ive been successfully keeping tropical fish as an adult for the last 3 years or so, and all of my 7 current tanks have at least one thing from this store living in them or working under or on the back of them. I recently stocked a 100G freshwater tank with a school of 6 Jurupari, 11 Cory cats, and a small school of 6 Roseline sharks from the Co-Op. All of them have survived, are healthy and eating, and look great in my tank. Cory took the time to show me pictures of what the Jurupari might look like as adults, and we worked through the rest of the stock plan together, based on my inputs regarding what I wanted, what would look good, and what would survive with my tankmate choices and the water Im using out of the community well were on over on Bainbridge Island. The roselines werent available the day I was there, so I ordered them, Cory landed them, quarantined them for a week, and made sure they were healthy and ready to go when I could back across to pick them up. I was running late for the ferry when picking them up on Saturday, so I called ahead and Lamont had them bagged up and ready to go when I arrived. My browsing time in the shop was severely cut short (sadly), but we made the ferry with minutes to spare! Its a business, and like any business, has to make a profit to stay solvent, and since he doesnt have the buying power of the giant box stores, you will probably find some things at those stores for less money than you might spend at the Co-Op. The Co-Op also doesnt stock EVERY genre of fish all the time, so you wont find African cichlids or a ton of the big Central American fish, but for the range of freshwater, community friendly fish and plants they specialize in, I promise you that you will not find better quality livestock or more knowledgeable service than those at the Co-Op, which in my book makes it worth the trip EVERY SINGLE time. Cory is in it for the long haul, and not necessarily the short term profit, and as a long time fish enthusiast himself (along with his employees), you greatly benefit from this long view of your experience in the fishkeeping hobby. Were awfully fortunate in the greater Seattle area to have several great choices of independent local fish stores, and they all have their plusses and minuses, but for my dollar, you cannot beat the Aquarium Co-Op, and your experience in the hobby will be greatly enhanced with a positive, long term relationship with this store, its owner and employees!

What a great pet fish store! Had a wonderful time there, and the store owner, Cory was very informative with all the questions I asked him. Fish selection is really extensive, and hes still planning on extending! The moment you walk into the store, you will see the vast display of tanks he has set up and theres a smaller section that contains live plants, along with a great selection of dry goods and fish foods. Prices are only SLIGHTLY higher than your typical Petco/Petsmart prices, but for what youre definitely paying top quality fish, which you wont find in most pet stores. I could easily spend hours upon hours, just looking at all the fish, and talking about fish. As a fish hobbyist, I would definitely recommend visiting this place if youre in the area. If youre catching a ferry and have time to kill, head on over to Aquarium Co-Op! I always stop by whenever I visit my parents up in South Everett. Its almost a sure thing for me, to see what he has in stock, and I almost usually come out with a new fish or even several new fish :)

Ive spent most of my money in the fish world at the big chains. When Ive had problems with my tank(s) the solutions I got never seemed to really work. For example, my pH levels needed to be brought under control. The one local shop I had done business with, The Fish Store, was never very helpful, and always felt dark and dingy. On a whim, yesterday, I went to the Aquarium Co-Op and was blown away. Super helpful, knew immediately how to fix my problems (adding crushed coral to continuously adjust pH in an organic way), and I walked out with a great new lighting system, and high quality food and plants. I guess if you want to set up a goldfish or betta bowl for your kids, the Pet Joints are okay, but if you really want to develop your hobby, this place is a MUST!!! Ill be back.

When 1st opened was an amazing store. Has since downgraded to a mediocre store with above average prices (10-30%+) compared to established local fish stores such as Bridges and Dennys. Ive tried to consult with owner about pricing but seemed unmoved. This review is made to help push the store to more competitive pricing. Fish quality has always seemed good but selection and pricing has dropped in the last 18 months. Plant selection and quality has dramatically decreased to less than mediocre. This once go to store has become second rate for me.The review above plus the treatment to past employees that helped make this once great store what it was makes it hard for me to go to this store. Youll find it better and cheaper at Dennys Pet and Bridges Pet.

Not just another fish store. I just stumbled upon the Aquarium Co-Op in the last month when a more well know Fish Store did not have any stock of three types of fish that I was looking for for my newly setup micro aquarium. The Aquarium Co-Op did have all three. The staff here is incredibly knowledgeable and will help guide you to make good decisions in your hobby if that is your true desire. They are obviously a business but do not appear to be profit driven. For example the free videos that they provide on their website are incredible and often include tips on DIY projects and ways to save money in this hobby. They buy locally whenever possible and this will most certainly provide you with a more healthy fish, plant, etc..

Excellent store for beginners to enthusiastic hobbyists. Knowledgeable owner and well organized setup. The selections of fishes are from basic to rare, which will serve a wide array of clienteles. Finally found a place that carried manzanita wood! The plant selection is outstanding. The price selection may be slightly higher, but the health of the fish and selections (hard to find) are not comparable. Was introduced to microworms as a food source for my fishes (they took to them immediately). If you are looking for a store to feed your fish hobby addiction or get ideas to start this hobby, then this is a must place to check out. Have already visited 3 plus times. Enjoy and have fun!

Easily the best fish store around. And thats saying a lot considering the amazing quality of other local fish stores, like Dennys Pet World, & The Fish Store. Cory can help you find the species to fit your tank or the personality youre looking for in fish. Not to mention his knowledge of tanks, plants, filtration, lighting, decor and foods. Prices are better than the PetCo down the street, and his stock in infinitely better. Not to mention deals on groups of certain fish and items the other stores simply dont carry, like rimless tanks, blackworms, and incredibly rare plants. Not to mention he can pretty much order anything you desire...
