Independence University will be celebrating our 5th Graduation Ceremony at the Capitol Theatre this April. Last year we even held a reception afterword’s on the Rooftop Terrace with overflow in the Capital Room to accommodate a full capacity celebration for graduates and guests. I worked with the Event Manager, Amy Taggart, for the majority of the months leading up to the event. She made what could be a stressful situation just wonderful. Amy was extremely responsive and always there when I needed to ask additional questions, set up a walk through, or change details about the event. Additional Event Managers: Angela Vanderwell and Liz Ferguson, were also available if Amy was not available which becomes comforting when planning an event of this magnitude. Technical Directors, Tom Bryce and Chris Philion became extremely vital to the success of the day’s events. I could not have asked for two men that were more helpful with suggestions or open to my ideas. They were so accommodating during every walk through and on the day of graduation they worked harder than I could have hoped for. Staff members of Capitol Theatre think of everything even if you forget, including the sound/lighting technicians. They were very supportive and accommodating before and during the event. Sadly, I don’t recall their names but being microphone to them during the event you realize how vitally their role is to the events success… and they were masters! The Capitol Theatre and all the staff members come highly recommended. We could not have had a better experience last year as well as previous ceremonies. Bravo to all of you and thank you!!! Dont come here for the leg room; come here for the gorgeous historic theatre and the great performances. I think the main floor center seats or the very front seats on the balcony are the best. It might still be worth it, but really dont expect miracles if you have tickets way back on the balcony in the nosebleeds section. (Thats a situation where opera glasses--or a pair of binoculars you fondly call opera glasses--are almost a must.) Theres paid parking ($8 when last I went) across the street and right next door, or you can always take Trax (its a short walk from the Gallivan Center station). If youre a student, definitely take advantage of discounted tickets! Ask for honors student discounts, and consider the amazing subscription options as well. Get hooked on the symphony and opera while its cheaper than going to the movies!

Its a beautiful venue, acoustics are very good and view to stage seems to be great from just about every seat in the theater. However, the seats are sooooo small, very close together and the rows are so close together my shins were pressing into the back of the seat in front of me the whole time. They are so small it seems like they were made for kids! I am 59" and not overweight at all and felt absolutely squished and cramped in my seat. I dont know how my poor friend who is 66" managed to sit through the concert!! I felt miserably uncomfortable, I cant imagine how he felt! In the future, Im going to avoid events held here because it just isnt worth it to feel so cramped; it just makes it hard to enjoy the event when I feel so uncomfortable in my seat.

A beautiful and classy place. I have seen several performances here. Each has been an absolute treat. There is not a bad seat in the house. The upper seating is very upright while the lower seats seem to me to be more laid back. It could all be an illusion but it does seem this way to me. However, in my experience they are all good seats and the performances have always been very well done. Whether dressed up with a companion or brooding in a corner wearing a coat and hat I have felt comfortable attending the performances.

Magnificent dancing by Ballet West in Swan Lake, but TEENY-TINY seats with NO leg room -- and Im only five feet tall! At least there are large enough bathrooms now so one is uncomfortable during the performances. The main floor seating is all right, but if I happen to find myself in back of a somewhat larger person -- and my five foot four sister as well -- neither of us can see through a persons head, and we miss seeing A LOT of the stage. Thats going to be a major problem because we want to see Romeo and Juliet in 2016.

With the major renovation completed this old gal looks even more amazing! The only complaint I have is that they did not add anymore water fountains when they added the new wing and restrooms. Maybe they just want people to buy more water bottles from them. The acoustics in this building are fantastic. The stage might be small, but the hard working stage crew sure can put together some amazing backdrops and sets for the productions. The opera productions are top notch. Added bonus, this place is suppose to be haunted.

Waited 2 years to finally get to see Wicked on 7-12-14. The entire experience was diminished because the theater was extremely hot. The air conditioning was not functioning and people all through the theater were using their programs for fans. It was simply uncomfortable. At over $100 per ticket, you would think they could show some concern for the patrons. Reading the reviews it seems this is not an isolated thing.

Capitol Theatre is the quintessential old theater youve been wanting to visit. Gorgeous exterior is only outdone by the traditional theatre trappings and decor inside. Really not a bad seat in the house, but the extreme sides of the Orchestra can get loud if they are using large/loud speakers. Love attending plays and musicals, but wonder what will happen to the old gal when the new Eccles Art Center opens next year.

One of the stunning performing arts theaters in the country. I was lucky enough to perform on this stage once as a young girl. Ive seen Aida here, The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Romeo and Juliet, Les Mis, Dracula, the list goes on and on, but yes, they were mostly ballets. Its a Salt Lake City treasure. Dont miss the chance to go again and again. Its exquisite.

Beware when looking for tickets, they added $28 in "Service & Preservation Fees" to an order of 4 tickets. Thats $7 per ticket or 15% of the ticket price!! Give me a break. On top of that they dont disclose it until check out, how slimy. You can do better and I will definitely think twice about going to a show here in the future! Plenty of other great entertainment in Utah.

This place was awesome! Their production of "Man of La Mancha" was incredible and moved me to tears. I highly recommend going to their pre-performance lectures and learning a little bit more about what you are about to see. This particular theater focuses more on Opera instead of straight plays or musicals, but they have been known to make exceptions in the past.

The architecture of this theatre is historic and kept in amazing shape. I love it here! The only down side is if you have long legs the entire performance you will be miserably uncomfortable. The seats are so tiny, even if you are just a tiny bit chubby the seats arent comfortable at all. But the performances are spectacular so its kinda worth it.

Took my wife here for Valentines Day last night 2/14/15 to see Swan Lake, and we both had a great time. The theatre is gorgeous and the performance was amazing, but I had some issues with leg room. It got a little warm during the ballet, too. The one bathroom I went to was a bit cramped, but clean. Overall it was a great experience, though!
