To the owners: Please know that your door-girl is exceptionally rude. I bought tickets in advance because we were visiting for my birthday; thats the only reason we went in after the interaction with this person. We had a group of 6 and we were all stone cold sober as we planned to have a few drinks at the dance hall; I have a feeling shes used to dealing with people who are wasted and therefore thinks its acceptable to talk to people that way. This was the first impression our group had of your establishment before we even got through the gate. Its also extremely concerning how many over-served patrons were able to continue to be allowed to drink when they were clearly intoxicated. Let me be clear, one girl in particular wasnt just drunk, she was OBLITERATED and spilled several drinks (she was holding 3 and Im pretty sure TABC would not be okay with that) all over the back of my dress and onto several people in our group. As if the experience at the door wasnt enough of a turn off I can say the sloppy drunk girl (shes just one example and there were kids there too) really did the trick and we left without spending any more money. I was excited to start an annual dance hall trip tradition but I will not be coming back. I understand that at a Dance Hall that also serves alcohol there will be drunk people but (former bartender here) it was very concerning how many people had clearly been over-served. Just know that if you plan to visit you wont feel welcomed! If I could give this place a zero rating I would. Super disappointing

A couple of important things to remember here: 1. They dont accept cash, but there is an ATM about 20 feet away so its not a big deal unless the line to the bar is long, then you will be upset. 2. If you are trying to go on a concert night - get tickets early because once they sell out, you cant even get in to dance, drink beer, nothing. 3. There is a large open outdoor area where you can smoke/vape/drink and easily hear the music so it is a great place to go if you are worried about wanting to smoke. This is Texas and 90% of the time the weather is cooperative. 4. You dont have to worry "much" about dress code, there are so many tourists wearing tennis shoes that you wont feel out of place if you dont have on jeans/boots - but if you DO have them.... dance in them. 5. If you are anywhere near the area, stop by - its a Texas tradition. Long live Gruene Hall.

If you knew the people that own this tourist trap that used to be a Texas Icon, you would never step foot in it. They (he mostly) own and operate Gristmill, Moxies, Rio Cantina format restaurant, and couple of low stocked retail stores nearby. They are stealing your money and time. There are a few restaurants nearby that actually put out a better much better product, such as Gruene River Grille. They have air conditioning, something that the Gruene Hall /Gristmill group doesnt bother them selves with because they have endless tourists who have been told that this is the place to be. If these tourists ever develop a mind of their own with actual taste the Gruene Hall/Gristmill/Moxies, &Rio Cantina will be in big trouble. I dont think that is going to happen.

We went to see my favorite blues guitarist last night (Tab Benoit). The way Gruene Hall is set up is horrible to see a concert. The stage is uphill from the audience unlike most concert venues making it impossible to see the band from anywhere but with your chest pressed against the stage. Texas oldest dance hall should be for dancing only. I am pretty sure they sold more tickets than what the building can safely occupy. We left after 3 songs. The ladies restroom is right next to the stage too. So there was a constant line of females going in and out to pee. I wanted to see a great guitarist instead I saw a bunch of females needing to urinate.

5 stars for Gruene Hall? Yes. Sure, there are reasons why most would not give it this rating. However, even if those reasons were all met, someone would fit something else to complain about. Gruene Hall is hands down, the best Dancehall in Texas. Why can I make such a bold claim? I dont have to. The history and the artists make the claim for me. When you enter, you immediately feel the history. Its not much to the casual observer, but spend some time there and youll soon find out why it is so beloved. Looks at the walls, see a show, make some memories. This place is all about generations of folks coming to the same place for the same thing.

I wouldnt give this place a single star. I chose this place to have my bachelorette weekend at because Ive heard such great things and have always wanted to go. It was a horrible decision. Not only did they cut us off at 9:30 (before the concert started and 10 min after we got there and hadnt had a single drink there yet), but when I asked why they were incredibly rude and let me know they didnt have to explain anything to me. They then proceeded to call the bar across the street to advise them not to let us drink either. What shouldve been a memorable and special weekend for me was completely ruined. Will never go back.

A historical Texas landmark that every good Texan needs to visit at least once. Major concerts can get crowded, but just get there early and youre fine. Great free shows, good dancing (not during crowded concerts) and just an all-around great place to hang out, shoot pool, have a beer and see Texas & Americana legends. If youre local or have the chance, check out their Two Ton Tuesdays and free Friday afternoon shows. Oh, fair warning - it is the oldest dancehall in Texas and they keep it old school. So, dont expect air conditioning during hot Texas summers. But, thats what the cold beer is for, right?

The female, daytime-bartender was exceedingly rude to me and my family. We stood at the bar waiting to order, and when she was done reading a book she proceeded to ask, "Um, can I help you?" After ordering drinks, we asked her to keep the change. To this she chucked the change in the tip jar and exclaimed, "Gee, thanks for the big tip." Little did she see that we had already given her $2 in that same jar. We wont be returning should we see her bartending in the vicinity. The remainder of our experience was pleasant, though. The outdoor seating made up for the lack of hospitality.

I can say I have been to "the oldest continually run dance hall in Texas", however there wasnt any dancing! Its a cash only system, so be prepared for that, and for the love...If you go in the Texas Summer, ladies WEAR A SUNDRESS. There is no AC, so it was HOT, especially when it started filling up with people. Its neat to see live music. Benches around the edges of the stage, open area where people can either dance or gather to watch the show, picnic tables outside, and no public bathroom, just port-a-potties.
