We loved this little roadside gem! Our daughter chose to go there to celebrate her 7th birthday, so it was a first time trip for our family. Our favorite thing was how close we could be to the animals! It was amazing to see them so near and many of them interacted with us! The keeper talks were lovely. These are passionate trainers who were very knowledgeable about the animals and obviously loved their jobs and their critters! They all answered questions as long as we asked them. We got to be right at the fences to see hyenas, wolves and cougars being fed. My daughter got to feed lettuce to baby tortoises. We got to pet baby armidillos and a baby croc, as well as learn about them. We watched the birds being fed and one of them had a conversation with the trainer while we were there. It was a clean, well-kept environment, good signage (wish they posted the animals names as my kids always want to know), pleasant and friendly staff and an overall lovely experience for animal lovers. Our kids enjoyed the goats in the petting zoo and finding cool feathers on the ground near the birds! We will go back to this little zoo anytime we are in town and we were very impressed with it-especially the outdoor areas! Great variety of animals! We came when they opened to see them get fed and that was a good idea as many of them nap after they eat-but just prior to eating they are very active! To sum up, it is a fun, educational little zoo run by people who are obviously passionate about what they do. I had read through the reviews before coming and was concerned ed about some of the comments about the ccleanliness or habitat quallity, but I will ha e to say I strongly disagree with those comments after visiting in person and have nothing but good things to say about this zoo! Go check it out!

This place is sooooo much more than a snake farm. Seriously! We walked in expecting to see a room full of reptiles, but as we were paying, they asked how many bags of feed we wanted for the petting zoo! Woohoo! Behind this place is a whole freaking zoo. Is it fancy? No. But it is shaded, family friendly, and it looks like they really care for the animals and are trying to raise funds to add on and improve the place. They have otters, lions, all kinds of birds, capybara, a petting area with goats and pigs, and several more critters. Whats really cool is that they let some of the friendly birds roam about and you can get really close while feeding them. Some eat out of your hand. Theres also a full schedule of shows with something starting every 30 to 60 minutes. The snakes are fun too! They have some of the most venomous snakes in the world on display...behind locked cages of course! We were just driving by and decided to stop in on our way to San Antonio, so we only had about 30 min. Wish we could have stayed a lot longer! If you think the $12 entry fee seems high, know that the place takes care of lots of animals with those funds. And once youre inside, youll see all that is offered. So worth it! My only suggestion is to rotate the petting zoo animals so they dont get overfed. They were soooo fat, but they were super friendly, happy, and they certainly werent complaining.

Its starts off at the snake farm with a bunch of snakes in containers that are entirely to small for most. A few crocodiles behind glass with a small pool of water full of what looks to be four dead turtles gathered lifeless by a stone. Some of the reptiles seem to be products of taxidermy or dead. Considering the environment they are subject to they are probably better off dead. Making the way past the snake farm you will enter the horrid place known as Animal World. Continuing the tradition with Snake Farm you will see animals kept in what can be describe as holding cells far too small for most they contain. Witnessed a mini horse trying to drink water from a trough void of water but was still determined to absored any moisture from the dirt crusted trough it could. A cage for a lion and his lioness what size might be 20X20ft with a rectangle stone to lay on surrounded by dead grass. A worker leaning against the cage laughing while the lioness rumbles a lowly pitiful defeated growl. The lioness then took a few steps and fell over on her side devoid of pride that is ascribed to lions. It is a pitiful excuse of a habitat for any creature. Dont support this pathetic place.

Incredibly awesome and affordable place to visit and spend an hour or two. Watching them feed the alligators is incredible! I cant believe what it takes to keep those guys well taken care of. Ever pet an otter? Then go to the Snake Farm already! Penelope is the sweetest little critter! Her handler is also very friendly and ready to answer all your otter-related questions. The white lions are adorable, and the grey wolf puppies are amazingly cute. Its amazing to see how much has changed in the last year alone and they are building spectacular new habitats for all their creatures. Im really impressed by them considering what it was like the first time I went. The petting zoo is always fun, especially if you love to play with little goats. They love to chew on cargo shorts and have no qualms eating your feed bag if you dont keep an eye out for them. Cute and sneaky little devils. If you love animals, its a blast! Dont live the rest of your life not knowing what an otter feels like or what it takes to feed alligators (and a Nile croc!) and live to tell about it.

This is Texas...Snake Farm has animals that can sustain the extreme temps of this area...so no polar bears. My family and I live within 30 miles of this place and we go once every couple months...it is a lot of fun for all ages. The petting zoo is always a hit :-) Its even invigorating for those who are totally creeped out by creepy crawlers and slithering serpents :-) The keepers are always willing to explain in great detail (when asked) fun facts about the animals. As far as the person who commented on the water issue, I have seen a few of the cages that had no water, but that was only a few...the keepers are always happy if you tell them about it...so speak up for the animals. As far as the ones ranking this a 1 Star location, they obviously had a one time experience that I have not had in the 10 + times that I have gone. I think you will find some sort of enjoyment at this place...its worth $10 per person :-)

Took the family + two of my oldest girls friends for Labor Day Weekend 2013 fun. We are NB locals so this place is not for "tourists" only! We met the owner Jarrod and he really took us in and showed off the facility. He is a super nice man with a vision of some great things for the Snake Farm in the future, and we sure hope all of it comes to fruition. We prefer to go to the NB Snake Farm not only for the snakes, but for all the other lizards, crocs, birds, and mammals there! We hung around for the carnivore show and the resident animal trainer, Kevin, spent a good amount of time with everyone answering many questions and spending lots of time with the kids explaining about all of the animals. We enjoyed the whole experience much more a visit to a bigger zoo. All of the kids got to enjoy up close and personal time with many animals and the kids talked and talked about the visit!
