Played at Shary Golf Course today for the 1st time in over a year and was quite pleasantly surprised. Ive lived in Mission for 15 years and have been golfing at Shary all that time -- except for the past 12 months when I could not play because of fused vertebrae that required back surgery. Throughout most of the past 15 years I have played at Shary only because its close. I have considered it a pleasant enough course but have regarded the upkeep and condition of tee boxes, fairways and greens to range from dreadful to just barely acceptable. Several years ago more than $6 million was spent on upgrades to the course including redoing the club house and installing a state-of-the-art sprinkler system that was supposed to deliver week killer, fertilizer and grass seed as well as water. That gave many of us hope, but nothing improved very much over the next several year. So imagine my surprise when I came back to Shary after my year-long, back-induced golf hiatus and discovered fairways covered wth actual grass (still a good bit of weed content but that seems to be coming under control) , tee boxes with grass and greens that were on a par with any of the best in the Valley. All of this combined to make my first round of golf at Shary in over a year very enjoyable. I think the changes can be attributed to the courses new director, Mario Flores, who seems to really be interested in helping Shary Golf Course achieve its highest potential. Its not there yet, but it seems to have really come a long way in just the past year. Cant wait to play there again.

We had a 1:23 tee time, and were told the green fee. We arrived promptly and a mob was gathered around the first tee stand, no marshall to organize the mob, and no regard for the stated tee time. The green fee was also higher than what we were told. When we told the clerk we had been told a lower price, he responded by telling us we got the wrong information. No apology. The clubs fell out of the golf cart because the strap buckle was defective. The clerk had an attitude. This course could be a good value with a change in management.

Ive played this course for years. Its a good course, but not anything exceptional. With 27 holes, you can usually get on somewhere to play. The driving range is ok. They have a good, reasonably priced summer program for the kids. They need more yardage markers on the fairways.

The membership and green fee prices you cant beat . The golf course looks great. With 27 holes it offers a good mix up.

Staff have no knowledge how to treat customers and the course is just unprofessional as the staff
