I visited Grooves on Friday, March 14th. It was not what I expected. I expected a lounge-type atmosphere with music that allowed for conversation and a nice meal. I had the crab cakes. Even though there were only 2 small ones that looked as though they were scooped with a melon ball tool, I ate only one because the taste of capers was over-whelming and they were dry, not flaky. To their credit, this was an appetizer item. But at $14.00, you just expect more. The atmosphere is like that of a club, inclusive of the hand-stamp as you leave and non-diners standing around the perimeter of the restaurant area staring at you as if you’re a caged animal during feeding time at the zoo. And then of course there is the club attire; the tight short dresses, weekend –length weave and over-exposed breasts. As always, you have that group of women waiting for the next line-dance song to be played which this night was the Cupid Shuffle. Then they run through the tables to the small dance floor in front of the stage to do their “club thing”. And as you leave, there is the ever popular handing out of brochures for the next big event. Once the check is paid, without regard as to whether or not you’ve finished your drinks, you are shooed away from your table to join the spectators standing around the perimeter of the restaurant. Needless to say, my party and I left. After waiting for my car at the valet station for 27 minutes, I received it covered in mud and muddy water and today, Monday, I am writing this review as I wait for my alignment to be re-adjusted. Pros: Diverse age group, centrally located, lots of material for your comedy routine. Cons: Not a very safe side of town, food not a good value for the atmosphere, music too loud to be enjoyed by diners.

Attended Grooves of Houston last night for Live Scene Saturdays with a friend from out of town. Went on the website to RSVP. as instructed prior to coming to the venue. I was rudely greeted by Rika at the front door who was extremely unprofessional and rude . She quickly assumed that I hadnt RSVPd and did not know how to search for event brite in my email.. Very bad and condescending attitude.. She yelled at me that what I had in my email was not a ticket. I told her I understand but that I did RSVP for me and my out of town guest. I asked to speak to the promoter. She never called or asked the promoter to come outside as requested. After waiting ten minutes and missing more of the live music band who we came to support, I literally had to call Grooves of Houston from my cell phone outside and ask someone from inside to come out to assist us. Someone came out and let us come into the club.I was told by the promoter that by the time I RSVPd earlier that the sale had ended but it still let me RSVP anyway, but just didnt send a ticket confirmation. Promoter never apologized for the inconvenience. just that the website shouldnt have let me RSVP and that it is a known issue. Clearly other guests had the problem as well. This needs to be fixed. Rika should not be out front as a representation of Grooves of Houston.

***Review is for Sunday Jazz Brunch*** This is one of those places you drive up to and think, "Am I in the right place?" but then you enter and BAM! Full of life! First, I dont normally comment on staff because I care more about the food, but I must say the staff is SO friendly and fantastic and works as a team - the hostesses, waiters and busboys are all going out of their way to make sure youre taken care of. And they acted happy to take our living social coupon and yelp checkin rather than annoyed as many are... Second, $1 mimosas!! (Check in and get yummy bellini). Buffet is huuuuuge; dont miss the country sausage, french toast casserole, cabbage, chicken tenders, twice baked taters and homemade banana pudding. Live jazz band is terrific and makes for wonderful atmosphere - youll be hard-pressed to find a similar atmosphere elsewhere in Houston. Many seem to reserve tables, but 2 can easily get in with just a short wait at the bar without one. Many were dressed up a bit and seemed to come from church, but youll still fit in with jeans.

I went out on a Saturday, so there is a charge at the door. I rode a party bus, so I dont know about parking. When I arrived, the line was packed, and so was inside! Sections are small, barely capable of holding the 10 person limit. I myself was with a section and we had this issue. I enjoyed myself because the music and atmosphere was ideal for my expectations for that night. It was body to body with beautiful well dressed ppl everywhere. My problem surfaced with aforementioned sections. The way it was set up, you couldnt distinguish where one sections began or ended, and since it was body to body that made it worse. Unfortunately there was an officer who was feeling herself, so she threw me out for standing on the outskirts of two sections.. smh. Ending my evening. Other then that issue, I thought it was a nice club if you like that fish in a barrel type atmosphere. If not, Saturday night is not the night for you

I like to come here mostly on Fridays, thats what they consider "Free Fridays". Everybody gets in free all night, drink specials are $.75 from 5-11 i think, then its $5 you call its too. Great atmosphere, its basically all hip hop, rap, a little r&b too. Mixed aged crowd, but it is 21 & up. They also have food and hookah, they recently remodeled and got new items like the larger couches and electric hookahs. The hookah is great! Reason why I didnt give it 5 stars was because sometimes the bartenders make the drinks TOO strong, especially the $.75 ones, i like to drink, but every sip i dont want to twist my face up from it because i taste nothing but liquor, and if you tell them, a few get aggravated, but if Im paying for it, it needs to be done right. Other than that, its a really nice club, on Saturdays too.

This place is so shady on so many levels. .online it says free parties on Saturdays didnt state a time, but when I called to inquire about it, the rude lady that answered said what free parties? Lol.. Im like mam Thats why Im calling for you to explain whats on your web site...of course it false advertising its only free for happy hour 8-11 where it clearly doesnt state..Should be more specific..waitress are rude, door man is rude, bartenders Rude, drinks over priced. . Overall place sucks because of the attitudes , starting with management..I guess thats where it all begins. Sad to say you cant support black business because they dont know how to treat their customers or no great business skills.. Will never go back! Dont recommend!!! ***Warning Dont waiste your $$!!!***

On Friday, 2/29 (4) guest and myself patronized your restaurant for dinner. The food was very dissatisfying to say the least and our server had more tables than she could handle, so her customer service lacked. Let me speak about your "Chef or maybe the lack of a chef. The quality of the meals that were served that included (Caesar Salad which was the worse salad ever) the baked chicken was compared to being better at Ihop! Just understand my comments are to hopefully make someone aware that the establishment is considered "MARGINAL" IN YOUR SERVICE AND FOOD area. The clientele you attract expect A1 service and it does not meet our expectations. So, Ill close asking for a response. Thank you
