I was rather impressed by Mid-Cities Aquariums choice of livestock, and their knowledgeable staff. Their display tanks were simply beautiful. However, yesterday I bought a coral beauty from you all for my nano, only to find when it was in my tank, under sufficient lighting, that he was covered in spots from what I presume to be ich. I quarantined him, but this morning (contrary to my expectations), he was dead. The fish was recommended to me by one of your employees, and we examined it rather closely; it simply wasnt possible to see the spots under the weaker lighting. When I called this morning at 10:15am, not even 24 hours after purchasing the fish, the only recompense I was offered was a 30% discount on purchasing another fish (an exception to your stated policy of never giving any recompense for your sick livestock). I didnt expect cashback or anything of the sort, but to me it seems like store credit of the value, or close to the value of the fish, was due: I noticed the spots as soon as he was in my tank, so he was clearly sick in the store. The store employee who helped me himself said that, "Yea they use cyanide and stuff to catch these in third world countries, so they can come to us pretty sick." Why would I want a 30% discount on what amounts to taking another chance of buying an infected fish? I was looking forward to making future purchases at Mid-Cities as I walked out of the store, but no longer. I leave a 2/5 rating because they do not back their product, not even for 24 hours!

First impression when walking into this store was great, everything looks clean and well ran. I took a look around the store and began to notice little thing here and there. some of the fishes they were selling in the back left of the store had ich, noticeable white little dots on their tail fins. I was looking to buy a nano size fish for my 30 gallon, so i asked one of the workers to recommended a fish to me. He recommend a goby that i had glanced over before i called him over. Note, i knew the fish had ich already. I asked him if the goby was in good health, and he said yes, total Bullsh*t. I said thank you and sent him back to what he was doing. After about 20 mins of looking around at the nice coral set up they had in the back, i concluded that almost all the corals were over priced. jeez, what a store. Nice and clean store, but they make the saying " Dont trust your LFS" just more real. In conclusion, I give them 1 star for a nice clean store. other than that its just another LFS that cares for the money that comes in. I will Never will be buying form these guys. Ive also read other reviews with the same fish issues that I had faced. That same day I drove to Ocean Avenue and bought myself an aura goby. Danny, who works there was every knowledgeable about the hobby helped me out.

I have been to this store several times and I have purchased several items and several livestock. They have a great variety of coral and reefs for purchase! The fish sell out fast, but they can reserve them for you. Sure, no one is there hovering over you to buy anything (which I prefer) but there is always someone willing to answer all of my questions. The staff is very friendly and if they dont know something, they quickly find out. Their prices are pretty average compared to other places. Not more, and not less. I will definitely be back! Note: They only sell saltwater fish and livestock. You wont find fresh water fish here. There were no dead fish or rude employees on their phone. Dont believe the negative reviews. If you need help or have a question, just ask. Dont expect people to kiss your arse just bc youre a protective buyer.

My experience with Mid-cities has always been favorable.... The staff always greets me when I come in and they are not pushy on up selling me on stuff I do not want and that would work well im my tank. Not sure what all the reviewers are saying about no one coming up to them because for me I dont like that style. They give me time to look at coral which is what I would prefer instead of someone always hovering over me while I look at the different pieces. When I do have questions there is always someone within 10ft of me to ask. Their fish selection is fairly limited so if you are wanting fish this may not be the best location but they have a good selection of corals and their equipment/tank pricing is on par with the major online retailers. Highly recommend MidCities...

When I walked in no one greeted me, there were 3 guys, one was helping someone else, and the other 2 were standing around talking. I walked around for a bit to see if any assistance was going to be offered, and nothing. I was interested in possibly purchasing a salt water aquarium and had questions about the set-up of it. However, sadly after no attempt from their end, I ended up just walking out and they ended up losing a potential client. As far as the facility the fish aquariums we very clean and the fish were not all clammed up in small tanks. They kept their fish and tanks well maintained. However, for their lack Customer Service they get a negative on that, and I will never do business with them. ~ Thanks Zoey J.

I purchased a several fish here and one of them was sick and died with in 2 weeks from purchase. I called and told them about the fish and they said they have no guaranty on there fish but they said bring some of the aquarium water in and they would see why it died and go from there. I brought the water and they tested it and it was with in range on all of the tests. Well they then said sorry but no guaranty and they would not even talk about giving me a discount on a new fish purchase. I have learned my lesson and will be buying my fish, live rock, and coral from a reputable source like Drs Fosters and Smith online who do have a guaranty on fish and coral.

This is a very good aquarium store. It has plenty of quality equipment and a good selection of fish and corals. The staff is very helpful, the store is clean, and most of the pricing is competitive. Some things are priced a little high, some are a little low, but considering that it is really the only choice in the mid-cities area (especially for saltwater), it is a great place. I would and have recommended them often.
