This was our first time staying and we wont be going back! I have been to a lot of waterparks with our kids on vacation and this one is the dirtiest one I have been to! When we arrived we realized that our room was not attached to the waterpark and that is a problem when it is freezing cold out and everytime you need to go to your room then you would have to change your clothes and dry your hair and that is a really big inconvenience with two small children. We would either have a long walk to our room outside or have to drive our car back and forth. I wish we wouldve know this when we booked online or drove 3 hours to get there because we wouldve chosen a different place. The surf simulator ride was down and they tell you this at the front desk and not online when booking. The ride was gutted and had yellow construction tape around it so it was not just a one day quick fix so it shouldve been posted online to warn guests so you could either wait to visit when it was up and running or book somewhere else that they have the ride because we were really looking forward to doing it! The waterpark was disgusting! When we went to the bathroom/locker room the floors was in need of a good sweep and the stalls could use a good cleaning. When going up the slides stairs there was used bandaids, empty plastic cups, cookies napkins and chewed gum all over the floors. A cup with a drink in it by a handicap chairlift almost spilling over and the worst part was when we left and went back the next day you would think it wouldve been cleaned up but No it was all still there how nasty is that! No one cleaned the place over night so think how nasty the place really is. I witnessed a baby with no swim diaper who was clearly not potty trained in the pool and a baby with a regular diaper on in the pool as well and the lifeguards said nothing to the parents. The iceberg rope cross was a safety concern for small children. No specific lifeguard was on duty and the children were not required to wear a life jacket but the water was 4 ft 6 inches. I believe that the water is to deep for it not to have a specific lifeguard watching the kids at all times and the kids not wearing life jackets. I would not recommend this place !

I do not normally write reviews of any kind. I took my family to Avalanche bay for 2 days and a night. First the good, staff was quiet friendly and knowledgable. Food was decent and not crazy overly priced as you would expect from a setting like this. slides and water attractions were very nice. We went on the last Saturday night of last weeks of spring break for all schools. The lazy river was insane I wouldnt want me kids in there alone (they are 6 and 8). The Lifeguards did not keep a very tight control over children acting redicilous while in the lazy river to which I was not impressed. The whole layout of the water park is poorly designed from the stairway up to the main slides and the exits from them particular slides that dump into the lazy river. The steps to get into and out of the lazy river are so narrow that it is a constant traffic jam of people trying to get into and out of the lazy river. The worse part of the whole experience were the locker/bathrooms. Having been in the military sleeping in the elements and living in old dirty barracks I can pretty much deal with anything. That being said the locker rooms grossed even me out. On top of being way way to small and over crowded it is doubtful that much effort was put forth to keep up on the cleanliness of the rooms/ showers. some sort of shower footware is a absolute must have.

This place was awesome. We had never gone here before and I have to tell you, it was a lot of fun. The waterpark was a lot of fun everything was clean the only thing I have to complain about is, the towels were very small. But other than that it was a lot of fun. The arcade was very cool. The outside pools were at the perfect temperature except if you had your head above the water you kind of freeze your head off. But other than that they were warm and nice. The only other thing I have to complain about is that the beds were very soft and uncomfortable but Im not that picky so I wouldnt give this place a bad review just because of the beds. The staff was very nice and friendly and helpful. When we checked out of our room we were going back to our house and I realize that I left my phone charger in the room. So my mom called the hotel which then call the lost and found and they had found my phone charger and they were going to send it back to us via mail. Even my mom was impressed and I tell you, its very hard to please my mother. This place was amazing the staff was great the hotel was clean the water park was fun. We will definitely be returning in the future.

I took my daughter and her friends to Avalanche Bay for her birthday on February 15th. 2015. We purchased the tickets online and drove three hours to get to their facility, when I arrived at 3:30pm. I talked to Mike a supervisor there about the air quality in the park, he assured me there was no problem it was caused by the large number of people in the facility. They went into play while I checked in our hotel room, at 4:30pm. I received a call from my daughter that they shut the park down. Because of the malfunction of the oxygen scrubber that monitors the air quality in the park, they refunded my credit card and I could not find Mike since he left since the air quality affected him, but apparently he thought it was good enough to leave the children in. I called and talked to Mathew the manager of the Hotel and he assured me he would have the water park director follow up and make it right with me, but never called back. They clearly are not focused on how they treat their customers, two of the girls left with headaches and bloodshot eyes for the experience. Save your money and go somewhere else as when things go bad they dont really care.

Positive: Staff incredible, gracious, helpful regardless of being understaffed at Kiosk, one person there most of day but still smiling; Most lifeguards engaged with guests; Ability to buy passes online, receiving family deal; Day passes offered; Local getaway experience; Family changing rooms/bathrooms; Children had fantastic time, all smiles; Variety of water activities; guests were pleasant and it was busy; Close to Boyne City for better variety of meal options; All kids agreed it was more fun than Great Wolf Lodge in TC and cannot wait to return! Negative: Bathrooms unkept; "Snack Shack" offerings unhealthy and expensive; Discovered questionable item at bottom of little kids pool; It was cold, kids spent a lot of time in hot tub and they shook & shivered trying to enjoy other attractions so we spent less time on other rides; Building had peeling paint, lack of upkeep, maintanece issues; A concern with water parks in general when patronizing is environmental and health impact of business, chlorine use, there has to be a better way to be more sustainable and less toxic?
