I went into this store ready to spent $$$ on about 3 or 4 saltwater fish because my daughter is obsessed with Nemo. Me & another couple of color happen to be in this establishment at the same time and I watched as neither they nor I received any service, while others were waited on hand and foot. After walking around the store for 10 minutes waiting for help the other couple left, but I went to the front desk to ask that someone help me. The clerk was polite and found someone to help me, but he made it seem like his helping me was a burden to him even though he was actively doing nothing in the store but standing around watching the other employees help others. When I tried asking questions he reluctantly gave minimal responses. I didnt know what questions to ask and he wasnt being forthcoming with information so I asked where the freshwater fish were in the store. He basically fanned me to another area of the store and went right back doing nothing...far away from me. I watched as other employees were overly helpful with their customers, following them around the store, answering questions, ASKING questions basically making sure their customer got everything they wanted and needed and that was my confirmation of the stark contrast between the service I was getting and the service others were getting. Im not going to "cry racist" because I want to believe that maybe it was just that one employee. But even on my way out they were more interested "finding out who" than trying to fix the experience and get me the help I needed. I drove from Lancaster to go to that store specifically. Waste of time and gas. I guess Ill give my money to a corporate establishment who is interested in having my money.

The fish and displays are all gorgeous, however nothing else about the store thrilled me. I was never acknowledged however my husband received prompt service (and this was a male-dominated staff, Im not being jealous), and two employees had no problem with stepping in front of me while I was viewing tanks. They would walk up, not say a word, and begin to feed the fish or fidget with something. I understand maintaining the tanks however they were just rude. The products, I would not buy there. All of them are grossly over-priced, even for a small specialty shop. I definitely recommend shopping around when it comes to buying filters and tanks and other media. Now I will say that their Rams were covered with ich, however this is common in fish stores because Rams require high temperatures and get stressed with anything below 80 degrees. Because tanks share water and many of the fish arent comfortable above 78, as well as it being difficult to maintain a steady warm water temperature with their filtration system, its often the Rams who take the hit, get stressed, and become sick. For that reason nobody should turn away from the selection of Rams, though they could definitely do a better job of accommodating that species of fish.

Ive never written a review before, but after reading some of the others, I seem to have had a similar customer service issue and have to say something. I purposely went to a non-corporate owned aquarium store expecting to spend more money to support humane treatment of fish and local businesses. I enctountered who I believe to be the same employee who treated others as an inconvenience. He was loudly complaining to other employees about needing to leave and how lazy another employee was for having to be late because his wife was sick. I had been looking at a shelf for a long time clearly needing help and we made eye contact. I smiled and walked towards him and he looked down and brushed passed me with a scowl. Later I was deciding on which piece of drift wood I wanted and he watched me walk all the way back from counter to put a piece back and stood 1 foot from me as I properly put the piece back as if to say "dont you dare put that back in a way I disapprove of." I am quite shy and found the whole thing humiliating and will never go back. I will just shop at the big corporate stores that treat their fish poorly and are cheaper.

Do not shop here. They are expensive and thats fine but when you talk to the owner and ask about tank mates for your oscars and he suggests pictus cats and you bring them home and it doesnt work out they will gladly take them back but you dont even get a credit of the 70 you spent. When I talked to the lady on the phone about them she says its like dog breeds they have a standard but sometimes you will get some crazies. Well they sold me crazies and wont take them back and I wont waste 70!!! The fish havent eaten since they have been home I thought they would settle but have not and will probably perish soon. She says we will take them back as a donation with no credit given lol after her explanation that they cant take them back due to not knowing what hey were exposed to. People shop online or petco and pet smart as the guarantee and customer service is better. This woman I spoke to was super super rude.

My wife complained about the snob attitude of one of the employees there. We were going in as a family to enjoy the experience and buy a fish. The same employee dropped our fish on the ground, picked it up, then put in a water bag. That fish died in front of my boys at home in our fish tank. Originally, we wanted another fish, but were told they were out of them, and the ones we were looking at were not for sale. The reason I was given, to not disturb their environment, was an unacceptable excuse. I told the owner it was his choice not to sell them, and my choice not to ever shop there again. A previous review here stated that returns or exchanges are not honored at this store. Whether this is true or not, I will not even try. Just flushing the fish down the toilet and looking for another store, where the customer is always right.

It is hit and miss when you go into the store as to whether you will be assisted or not. I never particularly felt welcome in my visits there either. The whole vibe of the store( except for the fish) is , well actually there is no vibe in the store. The fish are enjoying what they do, but the employees are not. The fish seem happy and excited to be there. The employees Do Not !! This I can deal with, however, the manager is NOT customer oriented whatsoever and makes zero effort to accommodate you and could care less if you are a satisfied customer or not!! Dont know how they manage to stay in business really I have never had a worse more grossly mishandled retail experience as I had at The True Percula. I will NEVER go back and I will advise others to do the same

I went to this place after every one of my 5 fish I purchased from Petsmart died and after being disgusted right out of the place out on Division/Lancaster/80...YUCK. We didnt buy one thing from True Percula today because the extremely knowledgeable, dedicated, worked-there-since-the-store-opened employee explained in detail why we need to wait to add more fish. He took his time with us and tested our water, and explained completely what each test needs to be. We waited a bit to speak with someone, maybe 2 minutes after we first browsed their numerous tanks. He spent about 15 minutes with us & he did most of the talking. The tanks here are breathtaking and well taken care of. You can even purchase some of their tank water. We were very impressed.
