I would love to give this gallery a higher rating but they have some work to do on notifying the public on their schedule re: exhibit changing. My husband and I had been looking forward to touring their gallery (and hopefully picking up a piece). Unfortunately, when we arrived we were instructed that they would be changing their exhibits later that day so they had closed off the gallery. We still checked out their gift shop - which has some wonderful items btw - their "internet was down" so we were fortunate we had just enough cash to pick up a few small items. We finally asked if the pieces in display now or the new exhibit would be shown online for this interested in purchasing...no dice. I hope this gallery gets some help to modernize their establishment significantly.

I cant give a proper rating on the exhibit itself because I was denied entry into Mexic-Arte I arrived at 4:30 on a Monday. They close at 6 on Mondays right? WRONG. It had already closed. It was cold and rainy and the doors were already sealed shut. There was a woman at the desk and I signaled for her to come open the door. She came to the door but didnt open it. She simply came to the door and signaled with her hands for me to get going. Almost in a "Shoo! Bad dog" kind of way. I was appalled by such actions, she could have told me that they closed early but no..SHOO! Looked like a cool place but whatever.

Greatest little museum in Austin; they do a great job with connecting with the community in general and displaying a variety of art work. Dont underestimate this museum, its easy to do when you walk by the 5th @ Congress location BUT DO NOT pass it up, if you have time stop in and check out what its all about. The Christmas party is great as is the Dia de Muertos event.

I really apprecieate this gallery. Its well curated and helps to fills the gap of cross-cultural art in Austin. The last opening that I attended had photographs, large paintings, an instillation piece, and even mariachis. A full experience of art from across the border. They also have a large gift shop in the front which is fun to poke around.

Very interesting and unique artwork in here. As with all museums, some of it I really connected with and others not so much. Some was a little too extravagant for me but may be just right for someone else. So if youre up for something a little different, I recommend checking it out on sundays as its free.

Very very small. I went on a free day, and Im glad I didnt pay for it because I got through everything in under 30 minutes. Still a nice place to stop, and had some cool pieces, but not worth much of an entrance fee in my opinion. They do put on one of the most amazing festivals though.

Really great local museum focusing on Mexican American Art. The last time i visited there was an exhibit on all different types of masks, including those used for wrestling. Learned quite a bit, I would suggest everyone check it out. Sundays are free, check it out!

I would say that this is more of the size of a gallery. I was lucky enough to attend on a day when I could purchase a piece from the gallery and I came home with a piece from Jonathan Rebolloso for $35, which is a better price than galleries around town.

During October they allow artists to pick up a blank canvas and bring back to be in a collaborative art show. This is badass. I got my art in a museum show with my name next to it! Their gift store always has something for the skeleton lover.

Walked in to buy a candle at 4:52pm. The dark haired lady at the register just said "were closed" as we walked in. We wouldve been 3 minutes, tops. No sweat, well spend our money elsewhere! Thanks, well be sure to spread the word.

Small gallery. I would not call this a museum and all the art is for sale so IT s a bit weird to have to pay to get in... Anyway, a fee few pieces definetly worth more then they asking price. Looking for new art? Go there!

Love all the new young local artists they motivate to show their work and inspire aspiring artists to venture into the world of art. Great environment, community engagement, and lots of amazing selections of art to purchase!

I went here with kids from the school I worked at. They enjoyed the field trip. It is all about modern art, mostly Mexican of course. You park on the street. It is pretty small, you wont spend more than 45 mins in it.

A great place to gift shop! Theres a lot of unique items and the front desk lady was very kind. The only downfall was that the gallery was closed when I went but Im sure its a wonderful experience when it is open.

I wasnt that impressed last time (the only time) I visited this museum. The artwork on display wasnt quite as comprehensive as I wouldve liked. Its still worth stopping by if you are in the downtown area though.

I believe in what theyre doing here and hope they keep it up. Community outreach must be a little difficult with all the other museums in town, but they benefit greatly w/ location.

Exhibits are well laid out, was a lot of fun to walk through. Museum was dedicated to one artist when I went, was cool to see different artwork from throughout his career.
