Dont ever buy fish from the "Aquarium" store! We have a larger tank and when we first got our tank started, we purchased 7 freshwater-tropical fish from Pet Smart. Then we also purchased 5 freshwater-tropical fish from the Aquarium store and every single one of them died within the first week of having them in our tank! All of our fish arent over 3" fully grown by the way, so they arent large fish. Our aquarium water is kept in the condition it should be, with normal levels. We tested it immediately after each fish died and the water was normal! So theres something wrong with the fish at The Aquarium Store. Its funny all our fish from Pet Smart are just fine, and every single one from aquarium are dead. Also when we bought the ones from the aquarium they looked nasty , their colors werent vibrant at all and they looked cross bred with other similar species or with other colors of their species -in a bad way. We thought it just meant they werent bred in bulk like chain stores and we thought that was nice. But no! Its because they are just bred however. We also noticed a lot of the tanks there at the aquarium were severely old and had tremendous amounts of algae, but we werent concerned at the time because it wasnt the tank for the fish we were buying. The same exact fish at Pet Smart are 10x more vibrant and energetic and healthy looking and acting. Also, not to mention, the fish from the aquarium attacked our other fish and harmed their fins. They are VERY aggressive, the salesman there will try to convince you that its because you cant predict fish, but its really because of the way they are bred! Other pet stores breed their fish to get along with other fish in small confined spaces like home aquariums and tanks. The aquarium do not do this! They get their fish from whoever and however and they claim to quarantine them but its a crock of crap! Their idea of quarantining doesnt solve their other problems and lack of quality. And the managers and salesman (including the one who wrote back to a review I here ) will tell you that you have a money back guarantee on your fish if they should die even if your water is fine , or if you are displeased with the fish after you get them home (like aggressiveness) then you can get a refund... Well no, thats a straight lie. You only get 30% back of what you paid for them! They talked us into becoming an aquarium member which extends your refund days to 14 days instead of 3, well again thats a crock of crap. They still wouldnt take the fish back!!!! All we were offered is 30% of what we paid. The fish died within a week of having them home! Last but definitely not least, while we were there we saw them taking fish from just some random person, and another fish from some random person - NOT reputable breeders like they claim they do. So basically its unknown where your getting fish from when you buy them from the aquarium, youre better off to go to Walmart and get fish. Also, the other stores fish that we bought from pet smart and places like that are still alive and well. So as far as the aquarium goes, Never buy fish from here, I cannot stress this enough!!!

My husband and I started getting into saltwater 6 months ago when we adopted a 7 month old Picasso Triggerfish that needed a new home. We had purchased a temporary 29g Biocube from a friend but knew it would only be very temporary so we started trying to find a reliable and nearby store that had what we needed. We live in Pigeon Forge and bypassed many stores in favor of The Aquarium. Exotic Pets in Sevierville mistreat all of their animals, not to mention their poor fish are constantly diseased and never survive. Even their substrate cant be trusted. The Aquarium may be an hour away but we make the trip every 2 weeks now to stock up on all we need. We purchased a larger tank and decided to keep the smaller one running as well. Since our first trip we have fallen in love with that store. At first we felt rudely treated until greeted by Cameron, who is the reason we are leaving this review and giving 5 stars. Ever since we were first greeted by him, he has always stopped what he is doing when we come in to help us with our questions and purchases. Cameron is very knowledgeable and truly seems to care for the health of the animals when they leave the store. He has given us great recommendations for our new and old tank. So far in live animals we have purchased a medium White Spotted Puffer, a Coral Beauty Angel,a Flame Fin Tomini Tang, a Percula Clownfish, a Gladiator Clownfish, a Chocolate Chip Sea Star, a Red Knobbed Sea Star, snails, and hermit crabs. We just ordered two black clownfish and cant wait to pick them up. We ordered through them because they quarantine them in the store to make sure theyre healthy. The only animals we have lost out of all the ones purchased were the sea stars. Not because of sickness but our own inexperience. In all,we love our Sunday trips to the Aquarium and we truly appreciate Cameron being so extremely helpful on each of our visits. Thanks to Cameron and their beautiful selection, they now have lifelong customers.

If I could give a -5 I would. We drove 2 hours to check this store out. Walked in and was not even greeted by the first employee. (Clearly customer service is not your prime.) We then walked around and checked out some of the fish selection, to find that the majority was not even for sale. Noticed a couple dead fish in some tanks , a molded star fish and a cleaning shrimp tank full of shrimp fighting( 2 were already killed). As I was talking to my sister in law, an employee butted in very rudely and said I was wrong. (I am very close friends with a marine biologist who works with at the Chattanooga aquarium and Im prettttttyyyyyy sure he knows what HE is talking about). Just when I think things cant go any worse for this store, there is no public restroom. After 2 cars full of family members. and 2 hours of driving JUST TO CHECK THIS STORE OUT, we had to wait until our horrible experience was over so we could go down the road to find a restroom. So, to wrap this up, customer service sucks. Spent 4 hours of my day and a full tank of gas on absolutely nothing worth seeing and the prices were the highest Ive seen around. Its safe to say I will not return and will advise all my "fish friends" to stray away from this business. Very poor quality.

My rating has mixed feelings. Before today, I would have given Aquarium a 4-5 star rating, however today has totally changed my opinion of this store. Previously, the store had always had the items I needed, and although busy, the staff was courteous and helpful. Today, my friend went into the store to get all the stuff to start a new aquarium and was treated rudely by one of the workers. When she mentioned the ideas for her new aquarium, she was reprimanded as if it was a task too large for her to handle. This person hurt her feelings so badly that Ive heard her talk about it for hours since it happened. This alone will change my purchases in the future. No store should put a customer down, but rather offer helpful suggestions in a friendly manor. Granted, neither one of us has aquariums that are Thousands of Dollars in set ups,... but over the years, we have definitely spent hundreds and hundreds in the upgrades and maintenance materials. They arent the only aquarium / fish store in Knoxville, and I know I will definitely be driving farther out of my way now or purchasing online because of this incident today.
