Kennywood is a classic amusement park (not so much a thrill park) with old school wooden roller coasters, some metal ones, bungee jumping (more like bungee flying), water rides, and other classic and inventive rides. I have always loved coming here. I go to Kennywood at least once a year with the same group of friends with a Day Pass. The summer of 2012, they had added a new ride where the Pitt Fall (my favorite) used to be. Im sad they got rid of the Pitt Fall, but the new ride is amazing, its called the Black Widow. It spins in a circle that you sit in at the bottom of a pendulum while it swings back and forth so youre eventually almost 200 feet high and upside down looking over Pittsburgh and the park. My favorite roller coaster is the Phantoms Revenge, its the biggest in the park with the biggest drops (BUT I must say that during my trip last week, someone threw up on the ride and they closed it down for 15 minutes while they said they were "cleaning" it...to my disappointment, I happened to get that very seat and they didnt clean the floor. I was wearing FLIP FLOPS! Needless to say I was pissed and disgusted. They wouldnt let me wait for the next coaster). The food is typical with corndogs, sugary lemonade, funnel cakes, churros, Dippin Dots, chili cheese fries, sodas, Icees, and they now serve beer to the delight of many in Pittsburgh. I also rode the Sky Coaster for the first time with my fiance. Its like bungee jumping without the jump, you fall from 180 feet in the air and fly straight down at 75+ mph...most amazing feeling in the world. The pros are: Fright Nights during September/October with people dressed up in scary costumes, including creepy clowns sneaking around the deserted Kiddie Land area, a guy with a chainsaw, and a zombie voodoo land area with smoke and colored lights), a family-friendly atmosphere, its history, and new rides often. Cons are: expensive ticket prices/food/drinks, very long lines on the weekends, and some of the workers can be extremely rude (such as the time a woman slammed the metal bar onto my hip bones and I couldnt move and was in pain, so I had a panic attack and needed off the ride, she embarrassed me infront of everyone). Regardless, this is a place I have loved to come to since I was a little girl. Definitely a must-do if youre visiting Pittsburgh.

I would normally never have given Kennywood a low rating but this time they deserved it! I want others to be aware of how the park is conducted to stay open or not. The General Information on there website about "rain" and "best time to come" should be taken with a grain of salt. Its stated that after 2 hours of continuation of rain that the park may choose to close down, it also suggestions on days when there is a threat of rain, may be the best time to go cause the park is least crowded. Let me tell you... THIS IS NOT TRUE... The management of the park controls the park completely and doesnt care about your family! Its a business and I understand that but because the ticket numbers swiped getting in isnt high enough in the early afternoon and to close the park because of that, isnt a good reason to CLOSE! Imagine hearing the weather for the day was early morning rain then a potential of a passing shower or thunderstorm in the afternoon or early evening. Sounds like a good time to go on a week day, right? Checking Kennywoods website and calling when they opened and saying theyd be opened and no reason they would be closing sounds like the perfect day... Now everyone in your family takes time off from work to go, and someone whos handicapped is with you and is really excited about going. Upon arriving at the park you now discover you have 45 minutes till it closes, now you have to explain to that person that they can only be here for a short while when thats all he was looking forward to for weeks! Kennywood states now on there website its due to "Inclement weather closing at 3pm" the staff running there rides, although say different. They say the tickets swiped coming into the park isnt high enough. Kennywood is all about the $. This is the only day our family could come this year with everyones work schedule. Terrible Kennywood!! Maybe this is a result of new management... Money first, family second! I wrote this review cause Id hate for another family to have to go through this again. I want others to know what could happen to them and to be prepared and maybe reconsider trying to go on a slow day cause management may dictate your family vacation outcome! Date of visit was 6-23-16

I had never been to any of the parks in Pittsburgh before this one. My overall experience was pretty good. I went at the end of the season because I won tickets on a local radio station. The park was open from 10:30 to 5 pm, and we stayed almost that entire time. The park was clean and the lines were pretty short, only had to wait a couple of times. I had my wife and 2 kids with me and everyone had a good time. I managed to get free parking (paid was $7.00 I think) so that was nice, even though it was a little bit of a walk to get into the park. Our favorite attractions were: Ice Age 4-D (so fun for kids and adults alike), the Pittsburgh Plunge (we went on this about 5 times in a row), and the Log Jammer (I think that was the name). Raging rapids and the Phantom werent open due to the end of the season. It was a good time overall. Things I wasnt particularly happy about..... Food/Drink prices and taste. We ate lunch at one of the cafes and the food was not very good tasting. I think we spent over $40 for lunch (2 pasta dishes and a salad) and my kids complained for a while after we ate that is was the worst food theyve ever had. I thought it was pretty poor, so I know the park could make improvements there. We wanted to get slushies at one point and they were $8.00 a pop. I thought that was about $5 too much for ice and flavored sugar.... so we skipped that. The other thing is they hire teenagers to run the rides and there was a long line at the last ride we went on (Garfields Nightmare).... and the girl was putting 2 people in a boat that would hold six. I would have thought that they would do a better job keeping the line moving, especially since it wasnt busy that day. But, everyone was nice and most of the ride attendants were friendly and helpful with the kids. Id improve the food or lower the cost. I saw people bringing in coolers, so Ill know next time to pack lunches. I would go back for another visit for sure.

This place deserves to be world famous. It has been running for over 100 years and it is still so fun. In fact, here is a rating for all the roller coasters at kennywood in my opinion. Sky Rocket- 9.5/10 Awesome ride. Flips you upside down and drops you 90° down! The only fault is that the ride is only about a minute. But whatever IDC. Phantoms Revenge- 9.6/10 Oh my god, this is cool. I was upset when they took out the Steel Phantom, but this was a fantastic replacement. The hill is long, so there is more suspense until the huge drop. You also go under AND over the Thunderbolt. My only bad experience on the Phantom is sitting with my friend on it behind two random girls with super long hair. Their hair smelled terrible, and we were already strapped in, so we couldnt get off. Every time we went down a hill, the hair whipped in our faces, and it hurt a LOT. Still, this is a fun ride. Thunderbolt- 9.6/10 A true classic. Unlike most roller coasters, this one starts with a drop, not a hill. I just love this good-old fashioned coaster. Jackrabbit- 9.5/10 I will not forget my first ride. It was so memorable, and in a good way. And I will never get tired of the amazingly amazing double dip. Racer- 9.3/10 Who will win? This unique ride clearly shows the spirit of competition. Two cars race through the track and strive for victory and the finish line. The originality is awesome. So why is it rated lower than usual? I am not a fan of losing. It is still a fun ride. Exterminator- 9.3/10 Yeah, I know, some parts are kind of cheesy and the line is ultra long, but who could not love this ride? The car spins around as it goes down and up hills! Each car seats 4 people! And its also creepy. (°•°) This ride rocks! So, that is kennywood for you. In a slightly large nutshell.
