I read in 3 different sources about a "family friendly" showing of the worlds best shorts that would be shown Sunday Nov.20, at 1:30. I checked the website to confirm it. We bought 5 tickets, telling the ticket seller we wanted tickets to the "family friendly" showing. The trailers were very adult themes, including scenes of a rapist attacking a woman. My Grandchildren recoiled & hid their eyes. I thought that was extremely unthoughtful of the theater, but expected it was an oversight. THEN the "family friendly" shorts started...the 1st one was a clever use of found objects, but from then on, only one Pixar one was enjoyable to the children, most having a decidedly adult theme. We kept hoping it would get better when a short about someone being cut open & their guts spilling out was followed by a room of screaming characters(primal scream therapy)then a hairy creature trying to flush another down the toilet(every childs nightmare)& when the hairy creature started performing oral sex on a woman. Our entire row of children & parents jumped up & left.

This place is a hidden jewel. It looks kind of shoddy from the outside which is why it took me so long to visit it but once I stepped inside I was awe-struck. Its an old theater that still has most of its original features still intact - even the old red velvet curtains! I was impressed with how well maintained it was. And, the theater is HUGE. And, they always have interesting movie selections. The only downfall is that they dont serve real food. Just theater food. But, I guess Ive been spoiled by the Living Room and the Missions Theater.

I have been here a lot, but its usually to see The Room.. which is amazing! I highly recommend checking out one of their late night showings. Sometimes they even have Tommy Wiseau make an appearance. The best part is that they hand out plastic spoons before the show so you can chuck them at the screen during the movie. The service is always good and Ive only had to wait in a short line once to get in (not to buy tickets). It can be a bit of wait to buy beer though since they can only sell one per person at a time.

I really love this place. Its classic theatre with all the things you want from a modern cinema, great sound, good picture and great concessions. They host a lot of the great film festivals and are super efficient at getting people in for big events. Tip: For big events divide and concur. one person grab seats and the other get into the concession line and all will be great. The pizza is the bomb! And you can buy tickets online for most events and skip the lines!

I dont live in Portland anymore, so I didnt realize that Cinema 21 had added a screen. We did our annual Christmas Day movie and we had decided on "Moonlight". The theater was fairly full and the only place with ample seats for all six of us was the second row. In most theaters this would be a disaster, but they set the seats far enough back from the screen that I didnt once have the strained neck sensation that usually results from sitting too close. I will go back often!

This isnt a ritzy theater like Living Room Theaters, but I dont think it wants to be. They did have a few good beers on tap, but be warned: they wouldnt let my husband carry two - he had to pay and then bring me a voucher. A little inconvenient, but no big deal, really. I am continually impressed at the movies on offer. Everything from carefully chosen camp to highbrow cinema. Clearly curated by a true movie buff.

A great theater that provides an old time theater experience with the red curtain parting to start the show. Relatively inexpensive concessions. Nice folks running the place. Interesting and often challenging films (yay!). I see at least half of the movies they show. Parking can be an issue, so dont plan to arrive at the last minute and make it in time for the beginning of your movie.

Ive been going to this theater for years because of the films they show. I was very happy when they chose to show film Vaxxed. Whistleblowers have a very important role and we rely on them to get the facts out and hold agencies accountable. Thanks Cenima 21 for being unbiased and not privy to the negative backlash from those who chose to support the cover up.

One of the only theaters that shows The Room on a regular basis. For that alone it receives 5 stars. Last time I went to a showing they played R. Kellys Trapped in the Closet before the movie started. How awesome is that? Also, theyre good at showing local movies and great international releases like The Illusionist. Stand up place, I say.

Legendary Portland art house cinema. Ive seen dozens of great indie and foreign films since 1980s. I saw "Stop Making Sense" here during its first run. And last week I saw "Chi-raq". The programming here and the cozy cinema experience has never wavered. I love seeing that old marquee on 21st street to this day, whenever Im in the city.

They show some great indie pictures here, plus some special events, such as a monthly screening of the best bad movie of all time, "The Room"! Actually met director Tommy Wiseau at a screening, and had great fun interacting with the movie crowd. Also, they sometimes have bacon salt to put on their already-delicious popcorn. Bonus!

The seating is quite comfortable, although the chairs squeak a bit much. They do not play current movies, very old fashioned. Not a bad thing though, the movies are great and I love that I have not heard of any of the ones they play. They sell beer, drinks, popcorn (with real butter!). I would definitely recommend Cinema 21.

This is one of the best theaters it town. With three screens there is sure to be something youll want to watch. You wont have kids kicking the back of your seat. Real butter on the popcorn, real pizza, and other treats you cant get at any other theater. This is a great Art House Theater. Just go and enjoy.

LOVE to support C21!! Theyve had some fine film events there. Ill trade the Buckingham Palace size lobbies of the mainline theatres any day to wait in line at C21. And there are good coffee joints and cafes right nearby. Just allow a few minutes to park. But thats not rocket science. Youll find a space.

A great local theater with a great nose for solid flicks. Keep an eye for their more entertaining special events, including sing-a-long movies and amateur local porn fest. Also, I love the seats in Cinema 21. They rock and are bouncy so if the movie is a dud, you still have plenty of entertainment.

Small older theater that shows a good variety of films and special events. Saw The Breakfast Club with ongoing commentary one night and it was a fun experience. Comfy seats. Womens restroom was kinda convoluted to get to, but clean and maintained. Friendly staff and ticketers.

Old school movie theater. It will take you back to the past. Especially if youre watching some of those old Once Upon A Time In China movies or a dead can dance concert. The price is right for a movie it is cool air conditioned in a very popular spot on hot summer months.
