We chose the Memorial Union on the Oregon State University campus for our wedding because the space has beautiful architecture and art deco details, the site was walkable for most of our guests, and their prices were reasonable compared to other locations of similar size. Most of the staff was great, but the Event Supervisor, Deb Mott, was an absolute bear to work with. We had a hard time making an initial appointment with her, but she was friendly and knowledgeable when we finally did meet. After that, though, we could not get her to return a single communication and we were left unable to move forward with our planning. In desperation, we asked to work with different staff. We were passed to the MU Event Support Staff, who were a world of difference - they were responsive, professional, enthusiastic, and capable. The Event Support staff even hung decor for us, helped with set-up and were great problem-solvers, and managed the sound and video systems. They were fantastic to work with, and the whole affair went off without a hitch! My advice would be to avoid the Event Supervisor and ask to work with the Support Staff directly.

I attended a lecture by Ed Yong about the human microbiome. He was plugging his fantastic new book "I Contain Multitudes." I have since bought and read most of this book. It is an excellent book that draws the audiences attention to an important facet of a healthy human: the microbiota. The venue and refreshments were good, though most of the refreshments were oblivious to considerations of ethics toward animals, resources, the diners microbiota, and the environment by needlessly containing animal products, cooked refined oils, and refined sugars. This is a separate issue from the venue. The venue was fine.

Lots of things available here. There are a number of places to get food, a huge ballroom, and a very fancy feeling great room with fire places and spiral stair cases. You can discover some of the history of the school as well - if you look closely you can find OAC in a few places, for the old name of the school. The quad is cool. New students will surely go through this building to get their ID.

During the winter, the staff lights the fireplaces and you can stop by to chat and dry off when its rainy. Theres almost always someone playing piano there, and theres many great meeting spaces and places to hold events. The food options are pretty good too, with my favorite being Buenos Burritos.

Great food. Usually kinda packed though. The basement with bowling and billiards as well as darts is always a good time and is very well priced. They also have plenty of deals on different days of the week so make sure to check those out before coming by.

The main hub of every campus. Oregon States MU, however, is pointless for its students as its only a fancy building to get food and your ID card from. The building is a red herring for how established the university is and doesnt have much else to offer.
