I have 2 potbelly pigs, one of which was bought here 5 yrs ago (and I just love my big piggy too!), so of course I used to buy my PBP Sunseed brand food bags here too for some years. However, after Happy Trails Sanctuary called my family 3 yrs back talking about how a baby piglet was found abandoned in Cleveland where they arent even permitted by law to have PBPs in that area. Long story short, we went and found this piglet and gave her a good home with us. A few days later, we went back to RMS for more PBP food, when we learned from Chris the mngr there that "Yeah, I remember that piglet and the girl who brought her. I checked her ID and as she was 18 yrs old, she was allowed to buy the pig. But then a few days later, she tried bringing the pig back because her dad said no and since there is an $80 restocking fee, she couldnt pay it, so she went back home with the pig." Here, we learned, this girl was the one who called Happy Trails, who then called us, lying about how she had found this piglet. I was stunned that the mngr thought an 18 yrs old was capable enough of owning a PBP and more so, that this girl told us she had no income, living on welfare and already had numerous stray dogs and cats and a bunch of babies in her rented home in Cleveland, where her dad was paying her rent too. Well, fast forward to a few days ago, and even though I stopped buying PBP food from them 3 yrs ago, occasionally my other place doesnt get a shipment in so the only place I have left to find that brand is with RMS (but I will go find another place too now for a backup place.) I called RMS and they told me they had 1 bag there. My husband and I went to go pick it up, only to find out that the worker said Sunseed had increased their prices now and instead of $25, it would be about $55! Well, as we had no choice, we paid for it. But I called my other place when we got home and he said he still only charges us $25 and that Sunseed did NOT increase their prices either (he had called Sunseed too for us). Lastly, the bag is from July 7, 2011 too. Never again.

The reptile section of the store is completely and utterly pathetic. The tanks are not equipped with UVB generating bulbs. Some dont even have heat lamps. UVB is vital to reptiles. Without it, they die a slow and painful death. Tropical lizards (iguanas, water dragons, chameleons) have no humidity generating equipment inside their habitats. You can tell the reptiles arent doing so hot on first glance. Listless, dry, and weak are the best ways to describe it. There were iguanas with obvious infections. We were told that they all died. Now there are some new ones with shedding issues going on. Theyre also very angry. I can only assume this is because the "expert" staff doesnt handle them or interact with them outside the scope of pretending to know about them. One said to feed iguanas a healthy diet of crickets. Yes, because herbivores love eating insects as their main food source. Solid information there. I asked why there are no UVB bulbs, and one worker said "because we are cheap. When the lizards die we just put new ones out. I do my best to take care of them but I am only part time here.". Great. Glad I was able to purchase (read: save) four reptiles from death row at RMS. Not to mention, their equipment (bulbs, rocks, filters, etc) are all priced higher than other stores. Other local pet stores and reptile enthusiasts refer to RMS as "the worst". This is why. Dont go here unless you plan on saving a reptile in need of a real home. that being said, at least their fuzzy-animal section is alright. Some of the workers are kind of pissy and snooty though. Really great attitude to have when youre working around bunnies all day.

Its upsetting to say this but the Saltwater section of RMS has hit the bottom of the hill. My fiancé and I found this place 4 years ago and we loved it. Even though its 40 minutes from home I would always make trips here to check out the selection. I dont know what happened but the saltwater section is a joke. I left RMS about an hour ago and itll probably be the last time I go. Tanks are absolutely disgusting and not maintained. Algae and detritus everywhere, fish either dead or dying in a majority of the tanks and the staff dont really have much to offer. Ive bought a couple fish from here and some are better suited with multiples of the same fish. Ive called before making the trip to have staff members tell me not only have they never sold the fish but theyve never heard of it! Then I go anyway and its in their tanks! Haha. Today I also witnessed an employee going around the tanks picking out dead fish. Which was great because they needed to go...except he left the ones that were suffering and barely breathing to suffer some more. Sorry if the fish lets you toss it around with the net its done for. This store doesnt even come close to deserving the title "aquarium superstore" as it offers poorly cared for fish and any other waste of money items you can find at other places.
