The theater is gorgeous on the inside and very historic looking. The detailing in the ceiling and arches were beautiful and I spent the time before the movie marveling at how it looked. However, it seems better suited to live performances. I would have preferred to go to a comedy or band performance at this theater as opposed to a movie, but it wasnt too bad. The sound has a little echo effect but otherwise the screen and projector was great. The chairs were pretty uncomfortable and had no where to put your food or drink, but I wouldnt ever hold that against them, because thats not something easy or cheap to swap out, but its not a deal breaker. If I ever came back up to New York, I would keep an eye out for any live performances at the Lafayette.

Lafayette Theater is the only one of its kind that is left in Rockland County. I love the fact that its balcony is still in use. It is a big theater in the area that I hope they wont demolish anytime soon. The one in Pearl River is not being used as a theater anymore, so please, leave that theater alone and preserve it for as long as you can- town of Suffern. attended a play that some school students put on years ago, and I used to go there very often when I lived there for several years.

This is not only a well-programmed and historic independent film theater, retained unspoilt in this era of multiplexes, but it is also a community hub with special events and the magic of a real Wurlitzer theater organ in regular playing use. From the moment you enter the family-owned building, you are transported back to the Golden Age of Hollywood and beyond, for little has changed since the 1930s. Car-parking is freely available nearby. Recommended.

The theatre has a great architectural feel. However, my first movie viewing there was last week. The sound was not good. The music was VERY loud, drowning out the dialogue, often. And the dialogue sounded like mumbling, especially the main characters. I did cover my ears several times during the movie because the sound was too loud. I will talk to the theatre to see if others are saying the same thing.

Time travel back ninety years and enjoy the show! Hope you pick a showing when the organist is featured prior to previews as it alone was worth the price of our admission ( a bit like Radio City without the price and free parking immediately adjacent the theater ). Brilliant renovation and perfect setting with uncrowded seating for even the most popular new releases ... whats not to like here?

The theater is like a time capsule, back to the Golden age of the Silver screen. The screens are not as big as somewhere like AMC, but they are the same quality. If youre short, make sure someone tall doesnt sit in front of you. The seating is not on as much of an angle as most modern theaters. The prices are also much better than many other theaters in the area.

This is a great historic local theatre. If you want to experience a movie in a historic beautiful setting then this is the place to go you will not get any of the new seating that many of the chains offer. Popcorn, soda, candy is available before you go in. Parking can be tricky if there a lot happening in downtown Suffern.

We love the Lafayette theatre - an awesome one screen theatre. It has old time charm- they even have live organ music before the Saturday night show. They run great old movies on weekend mornings and have a lovely winter holiday event that we have made a family tradition.

A beautifully preserved theater from the golden age of the silver screen. The architecture was gorgeous. The only reason I did not give it a full five out of five stars was the floor was a bit sticky in the row we were sitting (I guess that cant be avoided but still...)

Best ambiance of any theater ever... 1950s throwback with balcony and organ... its worth it for the atmosphere alone. No the sound is not as good as modern theaters and no the seats are also not as comfortable but who cares. Lights Dim and enjoy the show.

This is an old time theater with old time charm from the old days of the silver screen. Before each movie theres a beautiful pipe organ played. The experience, atmosphere, the authentic interior, make this theater worth visiting and experiencing.

When you sit in the seats your butt starts to hurt after a while as it is an old theater, so I wish they would replace the seats, but other than that it is really the last of the old theaters that has that old school charm.

You dont come here for the movies, you come here for the experience. Some days, a local plays piano before a show. Tickets are cheap, sometimes even free. The staff is super kind and well represent the theatre.

Original downtown movie theater. All original, single screen, dress made popcorn, still has a balcony, and the Might Wurlitzer is played twice a week before the feature. Love this place. Read up on it.

My Favorite theater by far.. exudes history, class & charm of the art deco era. The organ ties in ambiance that is rivaled anywhere.. Take a step back in time to experience this gem.

Large theater with an old time organ. Hard to sell out due to its size. An organist entertains you before the show. Art deco interior make for a lovely atmosphere

Old-school theater from back when catching a show was a big deal. If youve only ever been to a mall-style mega-plex, this theater will be a unique experience.

Not only is the theatre really cool, and a piece of history, but they show old and new movies. There is an organ player, and the atmosphere is just great.

Clean theater. Screen was pretty small given the size of the room and the seats were pretty flat which made it difficult to see if youre short.

Great place to go see a movie. I always go to the BANFF mountain film festival every year. The inside is amazing and full of history.

This theatre is a small quaint place that gives the vibe of an old theatre. There is a pipe organ that plays before each movie

Plays the biggest releases, and has an atmospheric quality unlike modern theatres, which is not a bad thing.
