Have you ever walked up to a place you havent been before and you start getting bad vibes, and you later learned your vibes were on to something? Welcome to Spur Cross. My wife and I arrived (for our reservation!!!) and we see no one around and out of the corner of my eye I see what looks to be maybe a ranch hand standing next to a horse. So I expected to be welcomed with a "Can I help you?" or "Good Morning"; but oh no; the employee starts insulting the clothing that Im wearing (it was our anniversary so I was wearing Old West clothes to get some nice pictures). After 5 minutes of going through that nonsense, he asks me what we are there for. Seriously? Oh, we just drove an hour to be insulted and pull into some ranch just for the heck of it. He then tells me 3 wranglers are a no call/no show and that we just as soon head back whence we came. Then a family that came in after us (from Nebraska) were told the wonderful news as well. The excuse I was given is that its near the end of the season and the guides have probably moved on. Sorry, Unacceptable! If this is the case, there are a number of ways to prevent people that have reservations driving to your ranch for a cancelled reservation. In addition, looking at the employee that did show up for work, I thought how the other 3 must have been pulled from the bottom of the barrel. We then head into town and start seeing flyers for this stable. In talking with shop owners and patrons I asked the question, "Why post flyers all around town when you dont have anyone to give a tour anyways?" I tried to call the owners twice and was lied to the first time on when they would be available. This place is in serious need of a business manager and their employee needs classes in customer service (which does exist by the way).

Up front, I contracted with Spur Cross using a Groupon. Perhaps, my mistake. I do not purchase Groupons and expect to be given a reduced offer or discounted service, and that is certainly - till here - what my experience has been. Apparently, at Spur Cross, all of "those Groupon people" are combined in larger groups and led out into the desert for a horseback ride. So fifteen or so of us were on horseback for an hour and a half, but we neither heard anything of or learned anything about any of the flora or fauna, the history of the land, the geology or natural history of the area that we rode through...indeed, a little flirting from the cowboy up front with a couple of the young girls was about all we did hear...and even that stopped after a little while! Also, I have been on dozens of trail rides, here in Arizona as well as Tennessee, , New Mexico, Utah and other states, and Never have I seen a situation where EVERY horse stops whenever any ONE of the animals has a potty break! Out of the hour and a half I spent in the saddle, I expect that thirty minutes was spent waiting for one of the horses to finish up! I love to ride, but this was the most boring, longest, least enjoyable and most disappointing ride I have EVER been on. The county is beautiful and I am assuming that for other than "those Groupon People" it would be an enjoyable experience. I was concerned that this was too harsh a review, and I read it to my wife who concurs that I hit it on the head. Sorry, Spur Cross Stables, I will not be back and I certainly cannot recommend the ride to others

This was a terrible experience! The staff was very rude and unprofessional. We went there on a Groupon and I have to say that they clearly dont like to honor them. We called to book our time and we were told that they are booked for the sunset rides (which is what we purchased) but they can put us on a day time ride and give us back a $4 difference per person (which seemed fair). We agreed to that, but when we got there they said we have to pay more because we got a special price on Groupon. So, we were going to have to pay $11 more per person, no chili bowls and get a ride which was not our first choice. The problem is that we were not the only ones...another group was in the same exact situation as us, so it seems that its normal practice for them. Why not be an honest business and get off Groupon if it doesnt work for you? We also heard them referring to a gentleman around us as "the big guy"...not cool!

I booked an hour and half trail ride for me and two family members who were visiting from out of town. Bianca was more than accommodating to our needs and scheduling when I called and emailed. Our ride with Ian (a knowledgeable and entertaining trail guide) was shortened due to a thunderstorm and they let us reschedule the whole ride (hour and a half) for the next day. We got an awesome trail ride in with Michelle the next morning. She not only told great stories but educated us on every plant and animal we saw. Spur Cross Stables is a great place for quality trail riding (even beginners--which we were) and I would definitely come back with other friends and family members. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a true desert trail ride. The scenery, horses, and staff are well worth the drive from Phoenix.

Decided at the "spur" of the moment to go horseback riding. Googled the closest place to where I was and this is the place that came up! I called to see if I could join one of their rides if I drove out there and the owner said yes so I headed out! This was a wonderful experience! My guides name was Boot and the horse I rode was Wyatt! They were both awesome! Boot knew the area and all the plants so well! I had never been on a trail ride before and had no idea what a learning experience this would be for me. The scenery was absolutely stunning! Even got to see a rattlesnake on the side of the trail! I would love to go back again soon! Im trying to get some friends to go with me next time! I highly recommend Spur Cross Stables!

Theres a reason why Im giving this place 5 STARS. Customer service is out of this world. Fun, friendly staff. Beautiful, gentle horses. Couldnt ask for a better environment where you can enjoy the beauty of the desert and clop along and get a history lesson as well. Boot was the perfect guide. Knowledgeable, made us both feel well at ease. I highly recommend everyone booking a reservation with this place. I have been to 3 other trail ride locations here in Phoenix area and this surpasses them all by a mile. Dont forget to give your horse a carrot. Which are provided by the ranch by the way. I may bring some of my own the next time I head out there.

Took our two grandsons 8 and 12 for their first ride. They had a great time. Their guide, Preston and the owner Lee explained everything to them before the sunset ride. I stayed behind and chatted with Lee about his ranch and AZ in general. Such a nice man. My husband and I will be going back to this stable for a ride of our own. Beautiful scenery, nice horses and a great business. I would recommend Spur Cross without hesitation.
