Simply outstanding. Incredible supply of healthy, robust fish and beautiful, vibrant plants -- including quite a few uncommon and rare species. One of my very favorite shops in the city; I can spend hours browsing their incredible showroom and admiring the gorgeous planted tank at the front of the store. The shop itself is extremely well stocked. Theyve got anything and everything you might need for your tank, including the specialist supplies most shops dont carry. You wont leave disappointed. As terrific as the livestock, plants, and equipment might be, where this store really shines is in the care and attention they give to every single customer. As an example, one of the employees (Chi) spent a full TWO hours teaching me everything I needed to know about caring for my freshwater nano tank. Not only did he offer his insight and suggestions, he also was kind enough to study photos and videos of the tank, its water composition, lighting, feeding, co2, dosing, temperature, and just about every other parameter that might be affecting the tank. Moreover, when my phone died, Chi unplugged one the point of sale devices so I could charge it and continue showing photos of my tank. After carefully reviewing everything -- and responding to all of my questions and concerns -- Chi offered his professional opinion and pointed me to (and ran around the shop to collect them all) products that would help my tank thrive. Throughout, he was extremely friendly, inviting, and accommodating. Chis passion for keeping fish was tremendous. And Chis not alone: the entire staff of the store is extremely helpful, eager to share their advice, and willing to put in the time in to help you achieved the best outcome possible. Like most brick and mortar stores, some products are available for a bit less on Amazon and other websites. However, given the essentially ludicrous amount of support, insight, and personalized advice the staff offers their customers, Id pay TWICE retail... and gladly. Pacific Aquarium & Plant is a rare gem and one of the last of a dying breed. Its a phenomenal and special store -- and one that I intend to support for as long as Im able. PA&P is a quirky, comprehensive, and brilliant NYC treasure -- dont miss out!

This is an excellent store for serious freshwater aquascapers. To me, the Asian culture is head and shoulders above in the planted hobby, so to speak, and it is evident within this great little store. They have a good plant selection and a knowledgable staff. Being in low PH Brooklyn, this store is perfectly suited to the water parameters of our taps. The fish selection is very good...hard to find species of plants and fish alike. You will not find alot of this stock at other pet stores. I got a very good deal on some Cardinal Tetras, and I only lost one through the acclimation process of a very young tank. I chalk that up to my eagerness more than store responsibility, and they did give me a bonus cardinal anyway. They had Blue Rams, but I am waiting for my tank to really mature for them and the 2 hour acclimation process I always give to that species. Some harder to find species, yet important to planted tank balance, like an albino bristlenose pleco, was a bit pricey. In such cases, the logical alternative is aquabid. They also had true Siamese Algae Eaters and Amano shrimp, as well as a full line of plant additives and equiptment, so they know what they are doing with the plant to algae race. While I mention aquabid for the bristlenoses I saw, why take the chance of mail order on fish like cardinals and blue rams, which were priced reasonably and can be taken home safely by yourself?!?! This store is exactly what this hobbyist needed, and I am going there again today, if my wife lets me :) I got the sense that you can negotiate with them on larger purchases, so that would be icing in this beautifully green cake. I didnt look much at the salt water section because I prefer this hobby.

2/07/2013 Thursday 7:00 pm second time in this store and I have to report the front of the store looks great. What a great tank they have! This time I purchased a lot of plants some a dozen neons. Andrew was my helper today, smart young man extremely helpful and willing to offer answers to my questions, even the ones that I didnt ask. NOW THIS is customer service! they have a great selection of drift wood and substrate and some CO2 products. I also purchased some substrate and a glass CO2 diffuser - I am very excited about. In conclusion, Im really glad there is a store in NYC that caters to my new found hobby. Oh and did I mention I arrived just as they were closing their door and they still let me look around, ask questions and buy things. truly amazing service. 1/13/2013 Saturday round 3 pm - My first visit - Found some very nice pieces of drift wood. Very busy store. Lots of visitors when I went. you could tell some were from out-of-town, and some were regulars that came to buy supplies and schmooze. All the workers were very attentive, knowledgeable, friendly. I did observe that the store could be reorganized better especially in the front, they have a huge planted tank. with lots of stuff underneath and around, not too sure what was for sale etc.. Very healthy looking fish. but there is room for improvement in the housekeeping dept.

This place is AMAZING. Really cool shop to explore- everything you need for fresh or saltwater tanks. The best part, however, is the staff. They are unbelievably friendly and knowledgable. Ive never been too interested in owning a fish tank, but I walk by the shop all the time, so one day stopped in just to check it out. I saw a small "complete" tank for sale (maybe 8 gallons- gravel, wood, rocks, vegetation, fish, shrimp, filter, light), and was immediately hooked. Thought it would be perfect for on top of my dresser and knew I had to get one! Instead of buying the one I saw, over the last two months the ENTIRE staff has been helping me customize my own. I really had no knowledge of how to maintain a tank, but they answered alllllll my questions and have guided me through every step of the process. I told them I didnt want to break the bank and wanted something relatively easy to maintain. They told me exactly what I should get and how often to add/change things. I started with the tank, filter, light, gravel, and wood, and have been adding new pieces to the puzzle each time I stop in the store (rocks, plants, fish, shrimp). Chi, Anita, Isabelle, Will, Andrew, and anyone else Im forgetting- you have been SO GREAT. Thank you! And thanks for putting up with my dumb questions and frequent visits- you guys are awesome.

This is not my LFS, but it is worth the commute. I speak to Will and he gives me good advice, but also tries to sell stuff. Their prices are a bit steep, so if you can find it somewhere else, go for it, but their fish and plant selections are great, and they get new fish every Sunday night. Great for aquarium enthusiasts, pros and beginners alike. If you get a fish and it dies soon after purchase, they will give you a new one for free, but they will also try to help you figure out the problem. I brought in some tank water and they tested it and showed me the tubes! They are definitely my go-to fish store for stocking, and certain décor such as driftwood and rocks because they will sell from the tank, but not for simple tanks and decor as they are very expensive. Overall they are great!
