The worst purchasing experience I have ever had in my life!!! Im a novice to this hobby, so I had been shopping around to get an idea of what I would need to set up a tank, how everything works, what kind of fish, etc. I went into Fishtown. I met Neil . He assured me that he would take complete care of me and that he would help me with every aspect of starting a new tank, the set up, and how to maintain the tank. What type of fish and so on. He had a believer in his sights. I shelled out $3100.00 for an 80 gallon tank and all the stuff he told me I would need. He told me he was in the business for 20 years plus and he would have my back and teach me all I needed to know. WHAT A LOAD OF ----- And I fell for it ! He was not there at the install, which was a week late. I was told that the tank didnt come with a canopy then later when I spoke to the Owner of the store it was broken at the store and I could pick it up later and he would take care of me when I came to pick it up .I still dont know if everything I was charged for was brought at the install. because the invoice is a lot of chicken scratches. Eventually I got to speak with Neil. He gave his word that he would come out to my house that following Monday. I waited all day on my day off he called me at 7.30pm and told me he couldnt make it.he gave his word again and he would be at my house on the Friday of that week, that was the 14th of June, I am still waiting????? My only advice I can give to anyone reading this review, Is dont go to Fishtown for anything . They left me high and dry and the fish they sold me all perished.

While I dont disagree with anyones positive points of FishTown. They have a massive selection of freshwater, saltwater fish. Its the best place in queens. However, if u want to return something, bring a lawyer. They will fight you tooth and nail to prevent you from returning something. I bought some fish, and it died the next day, the receipt says 24 hr policy. So i did, and they claimed my water sample was too high in PH so they refused to refund a 99 cent fish. They also gave me hell when I tried to return a tank stand almost trying to pursuade me that store credit is useless and I should just eat the loss. Its as if the store is managed by the Mob, Tony the Hammer, Vinney the Noodle, and Tori the Mean Mistress. Its freakin crazy. I always try to get one of the non-tough-guy-guidos to help me, it makes for a much easier sale. Too bad there is no petco or petsmart in the million-mile radius, otherwise, I would stop going to fishtown. They just bring an aura of tenseness. I give them 10 stars for selection, -10 stars for customer service, and 2 for prices. Avg out to 2 1/2 stars. Those who disagree, try returning something, and your tune will change. as they bring out the lady boss to intimidate u.

Go elsewhere. Over-priced, generally incompetent and unknowable staff (they will give your wrong information but with confidence). The Indian guy (his name starts with a V) is the only one there whos advice is accurate and experienced. Theres some hoodlum-looking Spanish kid named George who must be the owners son because getting him to look up from his laptop when you need help is impossible. Then theres the old looking guy who makes bad jokes. Bottom line is one star is a little harsh but necessary. You cant really get much worse when it comes to where to go for fish. Aquarium Village in Westbury is better but 30 mins further into Long Island, worth it though. Even Petland staff are more helpful and give more accurate/objective answers. Or simply do what I do and go there to "see" which fish you like, what products/tanks are available and how they look, and buy on the Internet or elsewhere. They have parking in the back so it is convenient.

Ive been to this pet store for the past 6 years since it is one of the few places in Queens that has various kinds of fish and aquatic plants. I have to say that I enjoy the place when I browse around. I still think that the environment and exotic animals they have are amazing. However, this place has ruined my experience several times. The workers have one of the worst attitude to customers that I have experienced so far (except the owner). I even feel like some of the workers are not fully trained at handling fish since Ive seen them throwing fish in a plastic bag like a piece of garbage (I was so furious that I declined to buy those fish and asked him to bring someone else). Id only recommend someone to go to this place if you actually dont plan buy anything alive except aquatic plants, aquarium equipment and well juvenile fish that are simply cheap.

The flat out truth- Fish are really healthy in my opinion. I know what healthy, clean and well maintained fish tanks look like and thats what they have. But this place deserves a one for many reasons. Their online customer service practically does not exist. Everyone who works their is unfriendly and obnoxious. They practically make up their prices at the counter. For example, I was buying tropical fish food and the cashier asked the owner how much it costs, he no joke barely glanced at it and said 14 dollars for a can of fish food. THEIR PRICES ARE SUPER HIGH!!!!!!!! They try to nickel and dime you for everything. If you want to buy a fish tank they will try to get you do purchase tons of expensive, unesessary items. When you get the bill at the register for everything you will be surprised. Cant return a thing. Never come here. JUST AVOID IT.

These people are full of $***. So I pull up to fish town thinking this is a pet shop that will be very descent.. I walked in and it was a ghost town the freshwater fish have ich and the brackish tanks were DISGUSTING the water was so cloudy and full of poop and debris the cichlids and spotted puffers in that section were HALF DEAD!!! I was so angry… Surprisingly I ended up walking out of there with a turtle dock because I needed one quickly… I MADE A HUGE MISTAKE!! I got ripped off big time!! I know some of you who are reading this review are still tempted to take the trip to but Im warning you DO NOT GO TO THIS DISGRACEFUL PET SHOP FROM HELL!!! (Fish Slaughter U.S.A)
