The Queens Zoo does a good job at making the visitor feel like theyre not a few miles away from Manhattan, or even suburbia, as its hidden in the trees that surround Flushing Meadows. They have a wide array of species, mostly mammals, and an amazingly-designed aviary. Be sure to go on a day when the weather isnt too extreme, because a lot of walking is involved, and more animals might be out. Once youre finished with the main zoo, theres a petting zoo across the entrance, where youre welcomed by animals ready to be petted, and especially fed. Its a great place for outings with kids, friends, dates, and any imaginable companion!

I have no idea Queens has a zoo until the day we Googled it! It is small and there arent a lot of animals actually. Well, to be fair, there are a good amount of animals but they were hiding when we were there. So, we did not see a good number of them. Nonetheless, it is fun to walk around with children and point out the animals in the zoo. We did see see lion, birds, puma, goats and others. One cool thing about this zoo is they have a petting area! Kids can feed the goats themselves and they surely love that! If you dont want to trek out to Bronx or pay a hefty price for Central Park Zoo, this is a good alternative.

A nice small zoo. Lots of fun and animals for the kids, and not too big for adults walking through. this isnt s half day trip, like the Bronx Zoo, but is set up very nicely. The petting zoo is really fun for kids and adults too, with familiar animals like goats and pigs in a mini barnyard setting. The design is very good, making a small space not as noticeable. The bird dome is another 1964 Worlds Fair artifact. A big dome where you can step into a world filled with exotic (to New York) birds of all shapes and colors). Worth visiting if youre in the area.

This is such a wonderful oasis in the middle of Queens! I am disabled, so walking long distances is extremely painful. This zoo, however, is just perfect, and it has a lot of benches. By the time I got tired, I had seen the entire zoo. Couldnt do the aviary, but thats OK. Its not crowded. The animals are in natural habitat. I saw some very unusual creatures, and the ducks were very entertaining. The childrens petting zoo is great, with all those goats, sheep, llama and alpaca. My husband and I had a wonderful time. I will be going back.

Best kept secret in Queens. In about two hours you can get through the zoo and the farm. Feeding the animals here is MUCH cheaper than in The Bronx Zoo, or Central Park. Get there for the 11:15 sea lion feeding if possible, its the least crowded. The aviary is one of a kind - you can get a close view of the macaws in the nice weather. There is usually plenty of parking.. if the lot is full, try parking in the museum lot and strolling through the park (its a short walk past the theater).

I lived in Queens for 3 decades and never visited. Now that I have kids who dictate my life we decided to go. Great experience. Every staff member was friendly and helpful, and the exhibits were laid out perfectly to circle the park, see everything and enjoy every minute of it. The rides next store were the icing on the cake. A little expensive(the rides not the zoo) but no waits, perfectly sized for 10 and younger and again, very nice staff. Very pleasantly surprised.

One of the smaller Wildlife Conservation Society Zoos, Queens Zoo is a great place for a shorter visit. It normally takes us an hour to walk through at a leisurely pace, not including the farm/childrens area. The Aviary is one of my highlights of a trip there in the spring and summer, and the sea lions at this location have been boisterous and energetic. The Queens Zoo is a great small zoo, perfect for a shorter outing with the family.

Excellent short-outing visit. The place is gorgeous and unlike the Bronx Zoo, the exhibits are compact and easy to walk between. That means a pleasant 2-hour visit, and your kids wont be dog-tired a third of the way into the visit. Recommended! WARNING: its a long walk from the #7, and the parking situation is atrocious. Rather than fight for the free parking, suck it up and pay $10 to park in the New York Hall of Science parking.

Nice change of pace and not what youd expect to find. Actually had a decent array of animals and unlike the Central Park Zoo we actually saw all of them. The only thing I would say is the bird house is not particularly wheelchair friendly. It has ramp section but you cant go all the way round as it is ridiculously steep coming down. Believe me, we tried it! Well worth a visit though.

It was good but last week I went with my daughter for a school field trip, she is in pre-k and I think I needs kind of reinforcement they put her in a small class and the guide keep saying she had another group coming in half hour like she was trying to rush everything ! She got two animals to show in the class but I think it could be better ! The zoo its nice and clean!

It was a great time to spend time with family and friends although it was pretty small. Though the detail in the zoo made it hard to realise the size. It was very close to many other things like a small amusement park and petting zoo. It was not crowded at all and is pretty hidden away. There is only one place to get food though and insect repellent is recommended.

If your expectations are set appropriately, this is a great zoo. It is not the Bronx zoo. It is a neighborhood zoo that is great for toddlers and younger kids who like to feed farm animals and stop to see some sea lions get fed. As such, admission is cheap, it is not crowded and the staff is nice. Bring quarters and baggies to pay for and hold the goat food.

Hidden Gem of Queens. Not many people know about it, which makes it a perfect place to enjoy a private viewing in price of public. The zoo itself is of medium size, has an over all jungle like feel cause of not having too much commercial traffic. Aviary is amazing and well kept. Petting zoo is a bonus. Over all its a perfect place to spend your time.

The Queens zoo is a nice mini version of Bronx zoo. The bird house is beautiful! I had an exhilarating time watching platypus looking ducks cross my path and rabbits. The bird house had a bearded turkey I walked past. The petting zoo is just amazing and great to bring a toddler along. For a few. Ore bucks, you get the zoo and petting zoo.
