Was in Helena on a road trip, checked Yelp for sandwhich shops in the area, saw that this place had 3.5/5 stars, which was enough for me to drive over and check it out. Not having any idea what this place was all about beyond "sandwhich shop," I should have known better when I saw their "unique bread." Usually a gimmick is a gimmick, and this certainly was. Whats wrong with regular bread, who needs a "bread cup?" The bread cup was the gimmick, used to conceal the lack of quality and taste held within the confines of the silly little stale, maybe bread, bread cup. Most of the sandwhich cup was chopped ice-burg lettuce, sigh, I was looking for more out of my lunch today. I told a friend it looked legit before we went, it wasnt, sorry friend. Service was quick and kind though!

Great family friendly place. Their club foot sandwiches, quesadillas and rice or potato bowls are delicious and a great value. They have a healthy selection of beers on tap and live music playing on one of their two stages regularly through out the week. A lot of local art on the walls and many vegetarian and healthy options on their menu. The Red Atlas in the back of the Ox is a cool place to hang out too. It has an amazing atmosphere, a fireplace that shoots a five foot swirl of fire through a big glass cylinder, a salt water aquarium and lots of ambient lighting make this a cool place to enjoy a latte or a beer. In fact, nothing beats a cup of their great coffee and breakfast wheel in front of their fire place in the morning.

Surprising and interesting as I walked in greeted by a subdued cashier making myself second guess my decision to have come here for the first time. Sat down and watched the server pass with these tornado fountains of bread eagerly awaiting my own. Our time has come, we dig into a freshly made concoction they call the headbanger hoagie and a simple turkey and cheese delivered in a tower of bread. Very cool appearance, and the food tasted great! An eclectic place with good eats and cool atmosphere but the service was lack there of. More or less blah but very well worth it for the food.

Dont know what the hype is about. Had the all American Burger or something like that and what a joke. Had excessive lettuce coming out the top, undercooked bacon, and comes in a ridiculously small bowl making eating a messy and frustrating experience. Also sort of overpriced and then they added a tip and tried to overcharge my card. A tip?! For lousy walk up counter service. The two surly bikers at the counter are rude and act as if everyone should know how to order off of their goofy and confusing menu. You must need to be a drunk to enjoy this weird place.

I always am happy with the food I get at the OX. The only downfall today was that most of the tables were dirty. They were very busy because the food is so good, but I had to hunt and eventually found the least dirty table. Once things slowed down a worker came out to wipe off some of the tables. So I think they might have been low on staff. Again, the food is iconic and never fails to impress. The food is made fast and fresh. Dont forget to check out their homemade sauces either

Unique sandwich shop with plenty of seating. You must stop here if you are not from the area and try their sandwich. The bread shape will delight you... as long as you are into goofy shaped bread. I know I am. I ordered the chefs surprise, Salmagundi, without cheese and it came out loaded with cheese. The staff quickly and happily fixed it. I was hoping for more exotic ingredients in the Salmagundi but it was composed of standard salad items. Worth a stop at least once!

You go here for their iconic cylindrical subs. A plethora of names for the different combinations of ingredients. A choice of bread, with a rotating daily bread based on the week day. The ordering line is quick if there is a line at all. The wait time from moment of payment to the time the food runner delivers is never (ok, rarely) a long wait. The dining atmosphere is light with no feelings of expectations. If youre on the fence to swing by, think no more; just do it.

You cant beat these sandwiches in Helena. Great selection, the bread is delicious and you have to love the unique coffee-can look to it. They never skimp on the ingredients, and it almost always tastes fresh (bread can be a little dry sometimes, but rarely). Dont judge the food by the employees, who generally dress like they are headed to a night out at a dive bar rather than working at a top-notch sandwich joint.

Didnt even get to try the food. After waiting a half an hour I asked about my order, and found out they hadnt even punched it in. They made no reparation other than saying they could have it out in ten minutes, which it should have been in the first place. They just didnt seem to have it together, and for that they get one star. Cant comment on the food quality though.

Been eating here for years, love the Pepperoni Vegi sandwich, Rude Dude rice, and Potato of the Sea. Best to call ahead if youre in a hurry as items are made to order and can take some time. Soup and bread guts also can be a good option. They have punch cards to reward repeat customers. Sandwiches have been featured in national publications.

I just had the worst salad of my life. How do you screw up a salad you ask? Well, stop by the ox and tjey will show you. I felt terrible asking g them to remake it because it was not at all what I ordered and to my utter disappointment, it didnt get any better. I have always loved this place as kind its apparently gone WAY down hill. Smh

Disappointed! Love the food and menu variety and have been going there since they were located where Hardees is now.......but, the tables always seem dirty and today when we arrived at 7:40, we were informed that our food had to be to go, since they now close at 8. REALLY!! Not the best way to treat your customers.

Visited on a Friday afternoon about 2:45. Couldnt find a clean table to sit at, post lunch cleanup obviously hadnt been accomplished. Talked to the manager about the poor quality of food and he basically said thats too bad" Filthy, filthy restaurant and poor quality food - how do they stay in business?

Love the Ox but this location has gone to complete s**t. Food allover the floors, unclean tables, moron high school kids messing up orders, if there is a band just dont bother the place will get absolutely saturated in cigarette smoke from people smoking right outside the door.

Community minded business. Delicious sandwiches and salads. For those who enjoy bread, they have a great selection. My favorite is the Lonely Heart Salad. For sandwiches try the Saddam Slammed with Camel Spit Sauce on Parmesan Bread, or the Capitol Complex with Horsey Sauce.
