The Museum of Russian Art is one of that should not be missed by anyone who has a love of art and history. One can learn more about Russian life and history from the art and knowledgeable docents then from a text book. The exhibits provide exposure to artists that might not otherwise have been seen and give the viewer a glimpse into a world that is mostly unknown and surprising. The art is as varied as the Russian people ranging from the classical to conceptual. The award winning building is a former church that was repurposed into a perfect three floor museum. The exhibits are always purposeful and easily viewed. Its small enough that visitors can spend a couple of hours and tour the whole museum, but big enough to create captivating exhibitions.

I have always had a strong interest in Russian history and to come in the doors of the Russian Museum in Minneapolis is such an aesthetic experience, beyond what one would expect. And then I have learned about the many Russian people who live in the Twin Cities and I understand the need for those people to have the incredible beauty near them since they have left their intriguing country. To me it is one of the most beautiful museums in the world. Everything is so well placed in such a beautiful way. The Peasant clothing exhibit was so so lovely. I shall be at the museum many times.

Beautiful experience that was well worth the ten-dollar entrance fee. I have never seen such art before; it truly was unique. Also, the gift shop is less an add-on of knick-knacks and more of an extension of the museum itself! They held such beautiful treasures from Russia, Ukraine, and several other parts of the world - all hand-made and nothing shipped in that was mass-produced (which would be lame since its a cultural museum). I highly recommend a visit here to this small but beautiful snapshot into Russian culture.

best little museum in Minneapolis, indeed, the US. Spanish revival church redesigned for a museum; very well done and interesting in itself. exhibits change frequently on a variety of Russian-Soviet-Russian art themes. artifacts are beautifully labeled and explained. And there is the gift shop, worth the visit itself. Go to see it. we have seen every exhibit since we discovered this place several years ago. Now you have three very different reasons to visit this fantastic museum.

This wonderful museum has some of the best exhibits I have ever seen! The paintings are amazing, there were many classics of Russian art that I immediately recognized, but to actually see them in front of me was so much more wonderful than a mere reproduction! The museum is very welcoming, the staff is friendly and helpful, and it is well worth the small admission fee. I definitely plan on returning, hopefully many times. This is a must-see for anyone who loves art!

If you appreciate art and/or history, this is a good place to visit periodically because, their exhibits change every now and then with interesting historical tidbits along with the art. The gift shop on 2nd floor is a delightful treasure all of its own. Since I had the pleasure of visiting the museum with a friend who drove, dont know how easy it is to get there via the bus. But, there is on and off street parking available. Definitely a must-see.

Good specialty museum, but note there isnt a ton of gallery space. Top gallery has an open area of floor, which IMHO prevents you from getting far enough back to really appreciate a lot of the paintings up there, or you have to go to the opposite side and view the, then you are often too far. Go to catch a special exhibit that you think youd like rather than just go any old time and hope any special exhibits are good.

When you get tired of the crowds at the "other" museums in town, check out this gem. Very interesting exhibits, and a beautiful space. A great place to take visitors too, and an institution without any real parallel in the US. The gift shop is also a breath of fresh air, with unique and unusual gifts, not the same-old-same-old quasi-arty but mass produced crud sold at many local museums.

Located in an old Church, the Russian Museum of Art has rotating displays on three levels that are very interesting, as well as guided tours that are excellent. Theres also a wonderful little gift shop inside. Currently, the exhibits include Faberge items, a Russian impressionists paintings, and underground, dissident artwork. This museum is well worth spending time at.

Постоянно меняющаяся экспозиция. Руководитель - православный священник, отец Владимир - очень увлеченный и интересный человек. Очень приятное и светлое место.

Unique venue. The gallery was converted from a church. Theres a two-level gallery with an open upper level that allows you to look down into the main. I like the specific focus on Russian art. Art is a great way to learn about a culture. The gallery is not large, probably a 2 hour stop.

Pretty interesting overall, even though its a decently small museum. Currently theres an exhibit on the Leningrad blockade with harrowing stories, art, and videos; a Faberge exhibit (no eggs) with a lot of beautiful and delicate metalwork, and some landscape oil painter with cool paintings.

This historic Spanish style building (formerly a church) has an open mezzanine that showcases the artwork beautifully. Dont miss the gift shop in the back, where crafts of local artisans are often featured along with Russian inspired gift items.

The day I went, they were doing a special exhibit on agricultural art, and nothing else. This meant that literally every painting was of a peasant woman in a field of some kind. I get what the exhibit represented, but found it very dull.

This place is a treasure that I didnt know about, a place where I will go again with friends. The exhibits are finely conceived and exquisitely executed. It took me to a different world. Only four stars due to lack of follow through.

Loved it - all sorts of Russian art, in a kind of Spanish-villa-church type of building. Three floors, friendly staff, cozy and not overwhelming. A great place to spend a couple hours, and right off the highway.

Small, but excellent collection. Worth a few hours to check out. Far better than its small size would suggest. Parking is a pain, but plenty of residential streets in the area if the church lot is full.

Knock out installations! Intimate gallery viewing and informative guide staff. The shop is the best value in Minneapolis. Wise Acre just around the corner for dining. We had a wonderful afternoon.

Wonderful museum with knowledgeable curators. Their exhibits are extensive between the three levels with plenty of space. They also have a little gift shop as well. Not overly expensive either.

Our guide was an excellent presenter and had solid insight on the exhibit. One can learn a bit from the wall signs but a great deal more from a tour guide.

Not as big a collection as Id hoped, But they did have some pretty amazing sketches. I would have like to see some vintage Easter Eggs though.

Great galleries! A little small for the price but truly a great curation of Russian art. The modern Soviet art was unique and interesting.
