Ive been to this store 5 times and all 5 times it was different, but all negative. The first 2 times, I just bought food and the people working there were rude. I had some questions, they werent able to answer. The 3rd time there, after I broke my Bettas 2 gallon fish bowl while cleaning it, I experienced the owner. He convinced me to buy an overpriced 5 gallon, filtered tank with pump and told me after a cycle, that I could add some frogs or 2 female Bettas so he wouldnt be so lonely. I knew my 3 year old healthy thriving Betta would be happiest alone! But the owner convinced my boyfriend he needed company! So the 4th time back, my boyfriend bought 2 female Bettas..,against my advise. After 1 day with them, our Betta got severe fin rot. HIs tail was falling apart & moved quickly into his body. We removed the females & took them back. It was too late. After 1 more day, he had body rot. So the last and final trip back, we got antibiotics for our Betta, who, and I say this with tears in my eyes, had no chance of survival after the severe stress the other fish gave him and probably with the bacteria in the water we mixed in from their dirty tank. And he only lived 4 more days before dying. If you DO have any kind of sales experience or get advice from this shop, know that its bad advice and its only to push a sale. If you have bad customer service with anyone here, just know thats the norm!

This is the only place i go to now for any help with fish, aquariums, or any supplies i need. I always take my whole family there because they all enjoy going there. The first time i went there the owner came out to my 3 year old son and asked him if he wantes to feed his koi. He had a blast. I have now spent well over a thousand dollars there and will continue to go there if i ever need anything. Just last week i went in willing to spend what ever i had to on the best in take filter. The owner asked what i had and advised me that i already had a really good filtration system and instead of him asking for the the money he asked the problems i was having. Then he stopped everything in the store showed me how he cleans his tanks and i have not had a problem since. Thanks to everyone at auqatropics. You have a customer for life. I wish i could add another 5 star review. The owner helped me set up my 75 gallon tank. I have to say now it is thriving. I posted a pic with the stock of fish i bought at his store. I spent about 400 dollars on 7 fish and with his insight the are doing awesome growing fast and are very happy. I just bought a uv sterilizer and he walked me through the process of setting it up my water is crystal clear and all my fish are happy. Thanks again kevin which i think he is the owner.

I wish they had an option to give this store zero stars. As a Betta aficionado, I have spent years caring for these wonderful fish. I stopped in to this store to see what they had to offer and where they source their fish. They had a huge stack of small cups with Bettas in them on the front counter. The cups were absolutely filthy and full of waste, and the water barely filled half the cup. The fish looked very sick/depressed. I went up to the counter and asked the girl with what looked like clown-like eye make-up on (you cant miss her) how often they changed the water and she said about every week and a half. Are you kidding me???? I asked her why she thinks its ok to force a fish to live in their waste and the constant build-up of ammonia from that in a small cup like that for that long and she actually stated, and I quote, "Its actually very good for them." In what wonky parallel universe would that be??? I walked out of there extremely angry and very sad, wishing I could save every one of those poor, abused Bettas from these completely ignorant people. I would never, EVER buy fish from this store. They are completely incapable of taking care of the most basic needs of these beautiful Bettas and I dont doubt that it extends to the rest of their fish as well.

I used to buy fish here all the time when I lived a few streets down in Golden Valley. I recently bought a pleco here and he seems to be doing fine so far. The store had a nice selection of fresh and saltwater fish, but its not like anything no one has already seen before, right? However, everything is absolutely overpriced. Not to mention an employee had suggested that because I had started a 72 gal tank with only 5 gals from the former tank that I buy a $30 BOTTLE OF REFRIGERATED AquaStart. He told me that he couldnt guarantee the fish unless I brought in a water sample, great... But as I was advised by my friend whom is actually going to be employed there very soon said that it was just a scheme. He told me that whether or not I bought this bottle of bacteria from there that I could just use neutralizers for ammonia and such, not to mention I have filter with ammonia neutralizing carbon. So all in all, it was ok, but I am not going to do something as to buy some aquarium bacteria that are probably going die at the mercy of my UV tank bulb before they even make it to my filer media. I recommend them if you know your stuff and you have a home water test kit, but not for beginning aquarists because you could be told to purchase a load of useless chemicals.

I am new to aquariums and decided to buy an aquarium and all the other nuts and bolts associated with the fish tank from this store last weekend. Had to make 2 more trips to the store to exchange 2 items. Met with 3 of their staff ( including the owner who sold me the aquarium and the other items on my first trip). I did not have any issues with the staff. I thought they were very helpful and friendly however, they are very expensive. I did the math afterwards and could have easily saved atleast 500 dollars if i had bought the supplies from a different store ( i spend north of 1500 all together in the store). I found that that both Petsmart and petco were selling the some of the items that i bought from the store a good 30 or 40 bucks cheaper. Also , i had a manufacture fault with the canister filter that i got so i went back yesterday to return it and get a refund and i was told by the guy at the counter that he could only do in store credit ( just something for you guys to consider before shopping here). I ended up getting another canister from the same store. Overall a good store with friendly and informative staff but very very expensive. So shop around and dont tell them that you are a newbie

I was interested in purchasing some native game fish from this store, and it was depressing! I called just before I left home which took 20 minutes to get there, and was told they had just gotten a shipment just yesterday. Expecting to have a nice stock of game fish in comparison to another pet store, I was sadly let down. I arrived there and was told they just sold out of two species of fish 15 minutes before I arrived, which seemed to be unbelievable and expecting lots of fish and variety being told 20 minutes before was just a plot get me in their store. The aquariums looked dirty and unkempt, algae all over the glass of most tanks. I have never seen so many sickly and actively dying fish, some even on the bottom upside down dying in any store. The game fish especially which i came for were all sickly looking, fins were nipped, and again there were dying fish in the tank. The prices alone on the fish made me walk back out the door. Ive purchased fish at another store, which were sold out of the species i wanted, was actually the same price as Aquatropics, but i could get two fish for their price of one! I recommend going to another store for fish, youd do a lot better somewhere else.
