What a great movie theater! We drove 60 miles to the Redford and had a great movie theater experience. This theater has been restored to its former 1928 beauty and is like walking back into time. When we entered, a grand piano was being played in the lobby. In the theater, there is the original 1928 Barton Theater Pipe Organ which was expertly played before the movie, and during intermission. We saw a double feature of 1950s science fiction films. I have seen them on TV in the past, but seeing them of the big screen is very different. Ticket prices were only five dollars, and the concession stand prices were more than fair, and probably less than half of what you would pay at a first run movie. The staff was very helpful in every way. This theater is located in an older Detroit neighborhood, but I didn’t feel unsafe at any time. They used two professionally uniformed security guards to secure their fenced in parking lot and surroundings. Give the Redford a try, and I think you won’t be disappointed. I plan on returning to the Redford again!

I Love and highly recommend the Redford Theatre! Attending this historic movie theatre is like Somewhere In Time. It guarantees a return to the glorious, fun days of A Night at the Movies. The movies are well-chosen classics, movie tickets are reasonably priced at $5, concession (cash only here) standards are good with SweetPotato Sensation Cookies and Vernors is offered with hot dogs (not always offered) for only $2. The staff (God Bless them All) are welcoming, encouraging, and friendly. Also, raffle tickets are available for cash money prizes, a T-shirt, or other promotional gifts. Parking is well-lighted and SECURE. ARRIVE EARLY for a dinner across the street followed by the wonderful Organ Prelude HALF-HOUR before the movie. A Great Time of Pure Michigan Fun for ALL! And... Movie Stars drop by..TIPPI Hedren, Rita Moreno, and Pam Grier!

There are three movie theaters in the Detroit metropolitan area that I truly love. The Detroit Film Theater (at the DIA), The Michigan Theater (in A2... also has a pipe organ) and the Redford Theater. Of the three, only the Redford Theatre specializes in classic movies of the past. Were it not for the Redford Theatre, it is conceivable that I might have lived and died never having seen "Casablanca" and "Breakfast At Tiffanys" on the big screen. The ambiance is that of a movie palace from the early 20th century. There is a stage, and on it is a monstrous working pipe organ, which (at least when Ive been there) was played during intermission. The admission price for most movies is only $4, and the concession stand items were astonishingly inexpensive. The last time that I went there, a bag of popcorn was 50 cents.

The Redford Theatre stands as a monument to history and entertainment. Built in 1928, its been beautifully restored (mostly) to its original look. The Redford Theatre puts you back in time, Japanese motifs and a warm decorated interior gives you a window into the late 1920s. The survival of the theater is accredited due to the efforts of many caring historians and artists. Thousands of dollars were spent on its upkeep and constant restoration/remodeling. The movies and plays are reasonably priced, the seats comfy, snack prices are good (Vernors on tap!), and the decor beautiful. Come see it for yourself!

I love this place. It is BEAUTIFULLY restored, all by donations. I only found out about it a few years ago but I make sure to come out every few months, if not more often. Its always fun - people dress up, or sing along, etc. Before each show someone plays this amazing organ and each show opens with the Star Spangled Banner. There is an intermission. Snacks are actually reasonably priced. The staff (all volunteers!) are so nice and helpful. I think this theatre is helping to make the area its in a little more desirable. Thanks for all the good times, and I look forward to many more!

Great experience June 3, 17 ! Saw 1927 movie "Chicago", restored silent version, 35 mm big screen, accompanied by N.Y. organist, Ben Model, with my friend, Gary whos got me hooked on "The Red" also! GREAT films/festival variety, reasonable snacks/drinks, 50/50 drawings. Larrys Tees/sweatshirts are graphic works of art, & fun searching for VHS or Records. Secured parking, handicap friendly, & wonderful staff of volunteers weve gotten to know. Thank you for keeping up one of the best places to visit in Detroit, & enjoy becoming a patron!

I love everything about this place except for one important aspect: The sound system is awful. My wife and I always have a tough time making out the dialog, no matter what is being shown or where we sit. And no, Im not hard of hearing. The sound is loud enough; its just difficult to make anything out. The place is best for movies where either (1) you know the dialog because youve seen the movie before or (2) the dialog isnt very important or difficult to interpolate, e.g., The Three Stooges festival.

Went to the Redford with the wife to see the 1927 silent film Chicago. The theatre is beautiful! The guest organist Ben Model was an absolute treat. I think we spent more time watching him play the Barton pipe organ than the film! Ticket prices and concessions are very reasonable, especially compared to going to a big multiplex. The parking lot security staff are friendly and vigilant. It is very refreshing that the people who work the theatre are so passionate about the place.

This theatre opened in the late 20s, and has never closed its doors since! It has a revived pre-WWII Japanese motif, new seats, and thanks to the all volunteer staff, probably the cheapest ticket and concession prices in the business. The Barton organ the plays before the show and during intermission, as well as some of the best films ever made (think Casablanca, Wizard of Oz, Gone with the Wind, North by Northwest...) make this a great night out.

My fist time at The Redford Theater was a pleasant one. My fiancee wanted to sit in his geandfathers chair and watch three stooges. The manager was really helpful in locating the chair number. We got to sit in his chair. The popcorn is pre popped and they add real butter when you ask for butter. I think it made it a bit soggy, but other people seemed to really love it. It all depends on who you are. The overall experience was a good one.

I have been here many times since moving to Michigan. Its a beautiful theatre and you can feel the love and pride they put into it. The price are fantastic and the experience is unforgettable. If youre a fan of It Follows, this was the theater in the beginning of the movie. The only problem is that the seats are pretty small. Just prepare for that. Otherwise, amazing and fun. Great people and security in the parking lot.

Went here months ago on a date to see Pretty In Pink. I love this place! Its been beautifully restored, and the old movie selection is incredible (a lot of acclaimed classic films and cult classics, sprinkled with some older, slightly more obscure offerings). The candy, popcorn and drinks are surprisingly pretty affordable, too! Also, that organ concert before each viewing is great!

Lovingly restored silent movie era theatre complete with balcony and an incredible pipe organ. Friendly, helpful volunteer staff. Classic films at prices of days gone by. It is truly like stepping back in time EVERY time I go there. The experience never gets old. Award winning concession stand with prices that cannot be beat. Please come for a visit ... you will be amazed!
