Really beautiful architecture! The group has preserved this building magnificently for 70 years. The guides are very knowledgeable and love to share information even when not doing a guided tour. The architecture, furniture, everything is amazing. Only one minor complaint: The local fire department has forbidden them from opening the 3rd floor to the public because there is only one egress. There are some pretty amazing rooms up there from what Ive been told. The conservation group really should petition the fire department for an exception or, barring that, they should set up a system where they only allow a certain (small) number of visitors up at a time. Stationing a volunteer at the entrance to serve as a checkpoint or regulator valve for the flow of people.

Even the walls are art in this stunning mid-nineteenth century historic home blocks from Congress St and the Waterfront in Portland. Docents are knowledgeable, fun and interactive, the house is full of interesting art and historic pieces without being an eyesore, and its a great place for families with kids 8 and up. Younger kids may have trouble not touching the furnishing and walls. Home tells the story of two Maine families in the last half of the 19th century and the turn of the 20th. Professional, caring staff- great place to attend or host small functions. Enjoy the Victoria Mansion, and then travel a couple blocks up and grab an incredible sandwich at Home (the deli.)

A 19th century house, restored (and still being restored) to its former glory. Mostly original furniture, retrieved from various descendants and markets and at Christmas decorated by a talent selection of designers in the spirit of the original. Staff there are knowledgable and curious (and happy to refer to another colleague if they dont know). Which means mostly no labels on objects -- just the rooms as they are.

Being originally from England, Ive seen my fair share of historic homes. Been in Portland nearly 2 years and this is my first time here. It was better than I hoped. Beautiful restorations. Mostly all original pieces. The staff were exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable. Would highly recommend Victoria Mansion as a place to see.

Very interesting place to visit. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Ask a lot of questions - they are there to help you. Dont forget to read the binders outside each of the rooms. They had additional information not found in the museum brochures.

Neat looking house, but we didnt go on the tour because it was a bit pricey. Also looked to be under a lot of construction on the inside from what we could see. It would have been nice to allow a quick walk through for a couple of dollars or something.

What a wonderful place to visit. Its a self guided tour but there are tons of people there the answer any questions and give you more information. Everyone was extremely friendly and the house was breathtaking!

Small tasteful historic mansion with interesting stories within it. It was familiar yet unfamiliar. I felt like I had already felt its influence before this visit. The parlour is a must see.

parking is very hard, still under construction. We are glad we went anyway for the tour to help them raise money for the restoration of the mansion.

Beautiful, but it was disappointing no photography was allowed. Also a bummer that the kitchen and third floor were closed. But its worth seeing!

Beautiful Victorian Mansion. Decorated so festive for Christmas. Art and architecture. A must see what life was like before the Great Depression.

This mansion is over the top opulent. Considering its 155 years old and survived one of the worst hurricanes on record its in amazing condition.
