I took my 2 young children to the "All Aboard" read-aloud and "activity" this morning held at the museum. I was extremely disappointed in the experience. The read-aloud was given by, what appeared to be an uninterested, unenthusiastic employee, with very little experience with children. When she just seemed to disappear, I was expecting an activity to follow (as is indicated on the Portland Kids Calendar). When it didnt, I went to the desk to ask about it. The response I got was a very quick, insincere "sorry", "sorry", "sorry", with a fake smile in between each time she said it. Obviously they do not realize what its like to get 2 kids out of the house in the morning for a "special" activity, then to find parking in downtown Portland, for a whole 10 minute disengaging read-aloud. And to have to pay money for this?!? Come on, Portland can do better than that. A waste of time and money!

Es un bello museo, con un Staff maravilloso, que esta siempre disponible para tus consultas y necesidades,y si a eso sumas un viaje en un Tren antiguo, espectacular , sobre todo si llevas a un Train Lover de 5 años.

Excellent place to take a child who loves trains. The museum has interactive activities that the children can experience. Ive had mixed experiences with the employees. The first time I went the employee wasnt friendly or attentive (I spent an hour in the museum before I finally decided to actually pay for it) but the last time I went the employees were friendly and interacted with customers and answered questions.

I LOVE this museum. Its small but packed with awesome information and amazing historic trains. I didnt get to ride on the train but will definitely go back for that another day. The tracks run alongside the walking trail and have excellent views! The only recommendation I will make is handicap access is difficult. Wheelchair cant easily get to it.

Pretty lame, actually really lame. The train only moves VERY slowly for 15 minutes. You sit parked at one end of the track for 10 minutes. We took the young kids with us as a "fun kid" activity and even they were complaining they were bored. Any sites seen can be viewed from walking along the water. Save your money! Total rip off.

Step back in time, inside museum has a lot of history with trains you can board from the good old days. There is a small hands on center where kids can do activities, and a gift shop section where you can also buy a ticket to ride the last of what track is left of the Narrow Guage.

It was fun for my nieces and nephews it may be a 40 minute ride with some one explaining the history of narrow gauge railways and the historical Maine sites we passed. The kids LOVED it! The museum is learning thats interesting for adults and children. A great value for $10

A lot of fun! We enjoyed poking around the interesting museum. And train ride is short (about 40 min round trip) but fun with a very friendly conductor and docent who gave us lots of local history. Definitely recommended!

Smaller museum but there are 4 rebuilt cars you can walk in and around indoors. A scattering of activities, and a play area, kept kids entertained while waiting for the next running train to depart.

I love the passengers cars! Look forward to riding the train through the waterfront in Portland Maine! August 11th and August 25th is " Ice Cream Train Ride Night". 5:00pm and 6:00pm and 7:00pm.

Family friendly. Loved the Polar Express, and came back April vacation for a second ride. The crew even lets kids do the horn when the train stops, and encourage questions.

Ride on the narrow gauge train and enjoy the scene of the ocean. You could learn about the history of the narrow gauge train. Very interesting and educational experience.
