The Ogunquit Museum is one of the great small museums in the US Northeast, and is a beautiful showcase of the long, rich tradition of significant 19th and 20th century artists whove made the Maine region home or placed it at the center of their work. My wife and I make a visit (or two) a high priority when we visit Ogunquit in the summer, and never fail to come away grateful for the experience. And thats to say nothing of the beautiful setting and view. The shortcomings of a volunteer museum docent or a volunteer desk attendant on a given day cant be written off, but at the same time, the museum experience itself should not be condemned because of that. Otherwise youd have a heckuva time finding a museum of any stature anywhere in the western world that hits the perfect mark 75% of the time. And if someones four-year old can do the equivalent of half of it, theres always the other half to enjoy and learn from.

Ive been visiting the Ogunquit Museum of American Art once or twice a summer for many years. The exhibits are usually interesting and insightful, featuring American artists just below the first rank. The museum building is set in a lovely sculpture park with the rocky Atlantic coast of Maine just beyond the back door.

Great exhibits but... so not friendly to anyone who cannot climb endless stairs. as i was bringing my 91 year old dad through the front doors NO ONE helped us. The woman at the door just stood there as I balanced. Never would I recommend anyone going there.

The highlight of this quaint little museum are the grounds. Adorned with wonderful sculptures and impeccably maintained gardens, and lets not forget the breathtaking views of the rocky Maine coast. A must see while in the area.

A fairly mediocre museum collection thats important just because its in a small town. One warning, theres a prissy staff member whos really rude to visitors. I wish I knew his name.

Gardens are beautiful. View from the gardens is awesome. Very interesting to learn about New England artists. Docents are very knowledgeable. A wonderful experience.

Half of it my 4-year old can do. I dont care about the artist expressing themselves through their phony "art"... just give me excellence, not crap that passes as art.
