My daughter and I enjoyed our visit to Herbert Hoover National Historic Site, where we learned about a man who doesnt get enough credit--and gets perhaps too much of the blame for the Great Depression. We took a self-guided tour through the grounds, where we saw his early home, his church, and his school. My daughter liked earning her Junior Ranger badge. The rangers and volunteers were very helpful in answering our questions.
I have to admit, I stopped here to get the park passport stamp and stayed because of the compelling story. Its fascinating to hear how Hoovers brilliant ideas as Sect. of Commerce just didnt translate well to the situation of the Great Depression. On the other hand, the same ideas with the added charisma of FDR became the New Deal. This charming location is well worth the stop if you are heading through.
Make time for the library exhibits. The cottage was so impressive; the ironworks were interesting and it was nice to learn a bit there, too, but if Id had more time I wouldve stayed another day and really gone into the library more, and I also wouldve seen more of the town. The first stop at the Natl Park site captured interest as it really put me back in the time...
Very interesting with beautiful displays and clearly understood story of President Hoovers life, including his presidency. The grounds are impeccable and at the beautifully groomed area around his grave you are able to look across the vast lawn and in the distance see the tiny home where he was born. Very beautiful, interesting, and sobering.
Beautiful park! Its really interesting to visit the town and home where Herbert Hoover was born. I was surprised by his small beginnings, but also loved his little house and garden. My husband and I also spent the day just hanging out in the surrounding town, which had a farmers market. Great tourist destination.

Wonderful museum. Lovely grounds. Check out their rotating exhibits. Also, its fun to pack a picnic and eat outside there. During the warmer months, they have rangers give tours outdoors as well as a blacksmith working in the shop. Hoover days are usually in August and have a wide assortment of events to check out.
Love this Presidential Library. If you have a chance, see it in conjunction with the West Branch Christmas celebration. Christmas tree display in the main library and free demonstrations at the blacksmith shop, carriage rides and free admition to the historical buildings. Quaint and high quality family time!.
Was very nice and quiet, beautiful buildings, Schoolhouse, Church, Him and his wifes Gravesite, Birthplace, Visitor Center, and my favorite was the Blacksmith shop and all the tools. They also have the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum. The statue of Isis and lots more, good for all ages.
I loved visiting the Hoover Museum! It was fantastic. And the price of admission was actually fair. The gift shop was a little pricey but that didnt stop me. The man at the ticket counter was very friendly, and we had an enjoyable time. They also had an exhibit of Route 66 that was interesting.
A beautiful Landscape!!! I helped out to remove and grow trees there. trust me you would enjoy this!!! dont forget the museum. :-) if you are 16 and under you get in for free. they have new exhibits often. please if you ever visit Iowa or live in Iowa I recommend this National Park!
Lovely grounds for a relaxing stroll and the museum gives an insightful look at a president who is at best misunderstood, but usually unknown to most Americans. Better in many ways than the Reagan theme park / library, which I also happened to visit on this trip.
We visited during the Hoover Days celebation, so there was alot going on around the historic buildings on site and the museum was free that day. It was well done, educational and interesting; it would have been worth the regular admission price.
Its not often when traveling cross county you have quick access to a National Historic Site. Stop in, walk around, get a bite to eat downtown. Amazing to find out Hoover left town with 2 dimes sewn into his clothes.

The amount of text for each display wasnt overwhelming, so its easy to read it all. Be sure to take the prairie walk if you have time - the prairie is lovely and relaxing, even with the highway only a few feet away.
I believe this museum depicts the broad spectrum on Hoovers life. It gave us view points that we had not known or considered. We really enjoyed seeing his childhood home and his fathers blacksmiths shop.
Its very cool that you are actually able to go inside four of the historical buildings. Everything is beautifully maintained. Its worth a stop if you are in the area.
Great presidential library and historic site with history on the only president from Iowa. The park rangers are very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful.
Thaths a great experience get know part off the History of the United States Closely!! Good day at West Branch birthplace for the President Hobert Hoover!!!
Great presidential library. If youre passing through it is inexpensive to enter and you can spend as much or as little time as you like. Worth the stop!
This was a beautiful site where you could literally trace President Hoovers life from cradle to grave. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable.
Loved the exhibits and the maintenance of the grounds. Some of the signage was really small though, and doesnt show up well on pictures.
Awesome place. Had no idea what an humanitarian President Herbert Hoover was as a person. I learned so much. The museum is well organized.
Driven past this town dozens of times...thought it was time to stop in and have a look around. Great piece of American history.
Very educational. Worth the visit to learn what Hoovers good work accomplished vs being the scapegoat of the depression
What a very strange place! Ultimately Im charmed by it, but going through the museum I had a lot of questions.
Very informative, wear comfortable walking shoes, great picnic area and tour guides very patient with class.
Such history and collected works from the Presidents term and life make this a must see for any visitor!
Very interesting area. Museum is great. Gravesite is in such a peaceful area. Well worth the tour.
Totally enjoyed the visit. Learned a lot about this little known president and great humanitarian.
First visit and will be back. So much to learn about Hoovers generosity and love of humanity.
Wonderful museum filled with plenty of history. Beautiful grounds surround this historic spot.
Very informative and well set up. We really enjoyed it. Well worth the price of admission.
Well done museum about the 31st President. A must see if you are within a 2 hour drive.
Very interesting place and I learned lots about Bert and things I didnt know about
Good to see a historical perspective of a misunderstood and blamed president.
It teaches a lot about Herbert hoover and lots of other types of history
Museum exhibits change in a regular basis and are always well done.
A nice educational historic place and unique in American culture
A great small historic site. Knowledgeable and helpful rangers.
Not a lot of info. We were done here in less than 30 minutes.
