This place was only okay because on Wednesdays, their happy hour is from 4-7 pm then 10pm - 1 am. When I get done with work at 5:30 & dont arrive until 6, that doesnt give me much time to partake in happy hour. The cocktails (I was told) were apart of the happy hour & then when I saw my tab, it wasnt apart of their happy hour. The bartender was unapologetic about the pricing, even though they did not discuss the drink specials. Also a note on the cocktails. I got a Redheaded Rosie, which is a rum, ginger beer & berries infused drink. Small cocktail size, but tasty. What concerns me is that 1) the drink was $9 for maybe 12 oz of alcohol; 2) when you list out the ingredients & only say "rum," you make me believe that you are serving me a wells rum. List the brand! For how expensive the drink was, you would think they would use a middle to top shelf quality rum vs. not naming the brand. Yes, they are a restaurant, but they dont have many shareable appetizers. It was the first time in my life that I went to an establishment that didnt serve french fries. Nothing else for the appetizers sounded good. On Wednesday nights, they have karaoke. On the website, it says 8:30 pm for a start time. I dont think karaoke started till well after 9:15 pm. The beer on tap selection in the basement area where the karaoke takes place is sparse. Overall, I would say that the only good things this establishment has going for them would be how lax the environment is and how young of a crowd it draws on karaoke nights. Would I go back? Personally, probably not.

We ordered for the first time at this establishment via UberEats. The food was well packaged and mostly warm except for the "hot sides". However it was pouring rain and I would understand any delivery out tonight would take extra time to arrive, not a problem. The problem was that I paid for 2 half pound portions of ribs and what I received were 2 ribs totaling 9.3oz. Yes I weighed them. Additionally they didnt come with bread as listed on the menu. When I called to inquire about my order the hostess, who was actually pleasant albeit not sure what to do, transferred me to "delivery" right away. The woman I spoke with in "delivery" immediately caught a tone with me when I explained what the issue was. I was forced to listen to her making "sighing" noises as though I had annoyed her with my call before she gave me a one letter response "K" and put me on hold. Two minutes later she popped back on and said "Well give you $10 back but you wont see it for like five days, is that what you want?" I wanted my meal, but I simply said yes because I didnt want to deal with such terrible customer service any longer. I understand that delivery is not standard at this location, however with technologies emerging that allow consumers to order "dine in menus" for delivery I would expect both the quality of food and customer service to remain at the same standard as dine in customers. Our time is just as valuable and our money is just as good.

Hill Country Barbecue offers authentic Texas Hill Country style bbq. Its a big restaurant. The ordering process can be confusing. Wait staff and bartenders are great. The only items we didnt care for were jalapeno and cheese sausage link or the beef shoulder (clod). Servers, busers, bartenders and host staff are all friendly and attentive. The meat staff and side dish servers almost unanimously have such bad attitudes its like theyre working in a completely different restaurant. Ive trained myself to be prepared and hope for the very best which in this case is that theyre simply disinterested in you or your order without the intense anger. I dont know why this part of the team is so unfriendly but weve eaten at the downtown DC location enough to know this is a fact and prepare for the unnecessary abuse. Dear Meat and Side Folks, I dont know why most of you have such horrible attitudes? Could I ask that you think about how you like to be treated when you dine out? Thank you. The atmosphere is extremely loud (its impossible to carry on a conversation during dinner in a normal volume), rustic, primitive and energetic. They have an excellent Happy Hour. Terrific beer list and delicious margaritas. Hill Country also has live music on some nights. Some of the acts are quite good. If you live or work within 3 or 4 blocks theyll deliver for a small fee. The delivery guys are always super nice and the orders are always perfect.

Came here leading a school group from the UK and left completely disappointed. We were not told how the food would be served so some of our kids even went to order like the other customers and were rudely told to go sit back down. We were given some kind of salted cake to begin with that tasted like something Grandma made during the war when people replaced sugar with salt. This was followed by Mac and cheese, coleslaw and either pulled pork or chicken - it was smothered in that much sauce you couldnt tell. The Mac and cheese was also cold and hard like it had been left out for a few hours. There was only one bowl of each of the mentioned food brought to be dished out between 12 people per table and in the end, because the food was so poor, most of the kids didnt eat and those that did were still hungry afterwards. We were not spoken to once by any waiters or waitresses asking if we were enjoying the food or needed anything else. We literally walked out at the end of the meal and none of the staff on the way out said anything to us, and we were a pretty large group! It seemed like because wed paid in advance the staff didnt care one bit about our custom. Needless to say I told the children to leave no tip and took them to McDonalds afterwards, which ended up seeming like a 5 star restaurant. If you are considering using this place as part of a school trip to DC, dont.

As a born-and-raised Texan, Id say that this is okay BBQ. The ribs, brisket, and chicken all have similar tastes to the kind of BBQ youd find in Texas, though the smoke flavor doesnt come out as much as it should. You order everything a la carte, and the prices are a little high (easily twice as much as theyd be back in Texas, but thats to be expected, as DC is a more expensive place to live in than Texas). They are also the only place in the DC Metro area Ive found that serves Blue Bell ice cream (which is hugely popular in Texas, and still the creamiest ice cream Ive had), though they only serve vanilla and chocolate, which are still great. Yes, the brisket comes out "dry" and you have to put sauce on it yourself, but that is a very common thing back in my home state. They give you BBQ sauce on the table, and you can add as much or as little sauce on your meat as youd like. The sauce is mediocre, but its not bad. The atmosphere inside of the restaurant has a very Texas feel to it, and they have live music downstairs (if you like Country music, then youd probably like it, but if you dont, you might find it to be annoying). Overall, its some of the best BBQ Ive had in DC, but its a bit pricey, and it doesnt come anywhere close to actual BBQ from the hill country in Texas.
