Im normally not at all interested in art museums, but this is the exception. Has wonderful exhibits on art from all around the world, and does a great job of giving the historical/cultural background of all the pieces. Exhibits rotate every few months, so always worth a visit. A bit difficult to find from outside the mall (especially with the Freer currently under construction), but the Smithsonian guides are always so helpful.

Truly a hidden gem! This museum and the nearby African Art museum are mostly underground. The Sackler features a wooden art piece that hangs 4ish stories, I wont describe it further but I suggest going into the museum just to see this sculpture. When we visited there was an exhibit of illuminated bibles and of Afghani handcrafts. Both stick with me more than almost anything I saw during my trip.

Beautiful, contemplative museum of Asian Art. Sedate during the week, there are a number of weekend events for children and adults, such as the annual Nowruz (Persian New Year) Celebration and frequent ImaginAsia programming for families. The museum is 90% underground, with a small entry level in the Garden of the Smithsonian Castle.

What a cool gallery! We were here recently for their Asia After Dark party. The building is almost mazelike, as you wind your way through the various collections on multiple levels. I especially loved the room of Japanese woodblock paintings. They are so impressive and whimsical.

Although the size of the gallery isnt as big as some of the other Smithsonian museums around, this gallery makes up for it in style. It might be worth mentioning that I am a little bit of an Asianophile, but I still think the gallery is worth a visit.

Tons of great Asian art and fun family and or date spot. They have different events and shows through out the year, check ahead of time. Great place for a Sunday. The Gift shop in the bottom also has great coffee table books.

Beautiful little museum among the many of the Smithsonian. If you enjoy seeing the great diversity of Asian art, this is your place to go. I have been going there for years.
