beautiful artwork and gallery. I loved the ancient art, modern and contemporary ones. There are copies and artworks from great artists and moderns ones. The sculptures are really wonderful. There are artworks from artists like Matisse, Degas,Van Gogh. I do agree with the last comment that SOME guards seem kinda uptight about how close you can get to admire the artwork (even thought I was at a fair distance). But others are really friendly and helpful to guide you where some of the exhibitions are and even point out some great places around the city.Overall, I did love the experiences, all the works are really interesting if you are "able" to get a closer look at the details. I gotta tell you its not the same looking at a picture of an artwork than actually being able to see it in person... the strokes, the colors, the details on some sculptures....its just a great experience!

This museum is an absolute gem. Like museums in London and Washington DC, the gallery and the British collection across the street are free, encouraging frequent and in depth interaction with the world class art therein. Ive been there four times since discovering this magical destination in August and cant get enough of it. From the fantastic ancient art and artifacts on the first floor to the rare American furniture on exhibit to the surprisingly extensive contemporary art collection, the place takes my breath away. Best of all, its never been crowded on any of my visits.

A most wonderful and comprehensive survey of art and design works from around the globe, in a space that is relatively quite small, yet very dynamic. This museum is a true gem, and also home to Van Goghs masterpiece, "The Night Café"—Reason enough to pay a visit. Special exhibitions are accompanied by a gorgeously designed catalogue which is free to the public. If you are a fan of the Met (thats you, New York) you absolutely must see Yales collection. The pizza in this town aint so bad, either ;)

A seemingly small place from outside housing amazing amount of art so well curated was amazing. I expected to spend 30minutes or so and spent over 2 hours loving it. Merging an old building with new addition seem a bit hodge podge but the museum took advantage of it by clustering art works smartly. On top of the amazing collection and interesting architecture, it was free admission. Id definitely go back, and next time Ill plan enough time to be spent there.

I was not expecting a world class art history museum to be nestled in downtown New Haven. Yes, its Yale, but still-- it was a surprise. The collection is amazing, and the museum is free to the public! They have everything from 5000 year old Greek, Egyptian and Roman artifacts to contemporary American art, and everything in between (Rodin, Van Gogh, Monet, Rembrandt, and so much more). I cant wait to go back and see more.

I could point out that your rarely get to see such an impressive collection for free but I think the most exciting aspect of the Yale Art Gallery is their constantly sophisticated exhibits. The shows are often high concept and packed with information that really adds depth to the formidable art in display. Ive probably learned more per hour spent here than almost any other institution.

Not an art fan, but got dragged in with consideration for future ballgames. After the initial phase of sleepiness, they turned the lights on brighter and I woke up. There were some cartoon character like things, some guy in a tank top that they said was painted in the 1870s, so I did some research. And that kept me entertained. That plus goofy selfies.

The Yale University Art Gallery has a huge collection that would be difficult to appreciate in a day. A number of Van Goghs are on prominent display-- my personal highlight of the gallery. An excellent resource for art history/archaeology majors downstairs, where students can handle certain artifacts. Recommend taking Global Decorative Arts.

You can move from ancient culture to modern painters:third plus. The sculpture terrace on the roof is one of the best place for resting in yale: fourth plus....total:it is a must see

Security refused to let us in due to about an ounce of water remaining in my two year olds sippy cup citing their no food and beverage policy. Ive never seen rules taken so literally to the point of absurdity. A shred of common sense would have been nice. Cant speak about the collection as I didnt get to go inside.

Varied collection from different parts of the world. Really nice pieces in each gallery. Free to get in (at least on the Saturday we visited). Fair amount of steps/stairs, but there are plenty of elevators for access. Worth a stop if you are in New Haven.

Yale has the money to show off priceless artifacts and art. Definitely a place to stop by when you are in New Haven. The African Collection room is stunning. In fact most of their art is amazing, no you wont find a Picasso here but you will find ART.

An absolutely stunning museum. If you plan to see the whole museum in one day set aside at least 3 hours. It has remarkable art and a very eloquent setting. And the best part is that its free!

Youll find all the masters here - Picasso, Van Gogh, etc. Heavy on American art and new exhibits are well curated. Like a small Metropolitan. And for the price (free) no one has an excuse
