Train leaves from cool old-timey depot. Runs parallel to CO 91. The train is way up high on the side of a mountain so you can get a great view of the valley below. Train stops at one point to let people out to check out the engine, caboose & water tower. I didnt know this attraction existed for the longest time. As they say "dream times extended and highly recommended".

A wonderful trip. Polite and knowledgeable crew. For the morning trip be sure and take a jacket. Even if the sun is out the wind will be cold and you will want to get out on one of the topless cars for those great views. You can take your dog, if it is well behaved, but with the screeches from the brakes and the click and clack, it might become frightened.

Historic train ride through the mountains. We did the half day option. Open sided cars available as well as enclosed. There is a stop at the end to get out take pictures and view the engine and caboose. The engineer is knowledgeable and gives a narrative throughout most of the trip. Lots of information was given. Beautiful scenery.

Great educational activity to learn about Colorado mining. Beautiful views from the railroad as you hug the mountain side on the historical locomotive. Offer a military discount. Railroad tour guide shares plentiful knowledge on your way up the mountain. Well-kept bathrooms. Gift Shop was small but stocks local artisan merchandise.

We had fun. Interesting facts along the way. We went July 29th and was chilly enough to see our breath and rained. So be prepared! The conductor said its snowed July 4th before. Some cars are covered some are not. Plus you can bring your own snacks and nonalcoholic drinks. Alcohol and stuff sold on the train, also bathrooms.

This is a fun and enjoyable way to spend a few hours. The train takes a route up along the mountains overlooking the Arkansas River valley and is very scenic. It goes up about 500 feet in elevation and about 9.5 miles, stops for a few minutes at a water tower and then returns the same route. Trip takes about 2.5 hours.

Very friendly staff, gorgeous views, and interesting facts about the town and railroad. My 6 year old said it was the best day of our vacation and my 9 year old loved it too. There are open-air and enclosed cars to choose from and a little snack and gift shop car as well as restrooms on the train.

Did this train ride today! It was a fun and informative experience. Love that they have open and glass viewing rail cars. The gift shop was nice as well! Love that they had hot cocoa on board the train since it was cold today. Will recommend this to anyone with kids, couples, young and old.

Very nice relaxing and beautiful ride up and through the mountains. I like we could walk around while train was moving. Friendly staff. We even got to stop and get out to take some pictures. Definitely worth doing while in Leadville.

It was an alright experience. Cool views, some of the highest peaks, nice history lesson of the town. Didnt like it was a one way up and same way back down ride. But other than that it was a decent train ride.

Friendly staff and the price is reasonable. I was allowed to bring my dog. Call ahead to let them know. I filled out a form while on the train and kept Strawberry on a leash. The trip was fun and informative.

Great train ride through the mountains. You can experience beautiful views from open or closed cars. There is a stop along the way at an old water tower where you can get out and take some nice pictures.

Make sure you set on the down hill side / same side as down town nobody tells you this, this side has most of the views.
