Ive played this course about 30 times (I only go back because of the price). This course can be fun, but the grounds crew seem to do anything and everything they can to get in your way and disrupt play. It appears as though they have absolutely no clue about golf etiquette. For example, Ive had mowers make us wait for them to finish their cut, experienced them actually mowing around the tee box as were teeing off, tree trimmers running their chain saws and actively cutting while players less than 10 yds away, maintenance crews driving right by the tee box as were in the middle of a swing. They really are absolutely clueless and it ahows. Ive talked to management about all this, on multiple occasions, and they always have some excuse as to why it would happen. Yet nothing has ever changed. Ive played there due to the chesp price, but I wont be back - I guess its true, you get what you pay for. I play a lot of golf and the ground crews here are the worst Ive ever seen. Get a clue Applewood. Update Mar 17 Course is the worst Ive ever seen. It was like playing on a dirt parking lot. Every hole, without exception was absolutely horrific - from the tee box to the green. Tee boxes are so sandy its like teeing up in a bunker. The fairways are so dry they are cracked. I honestly dont see how they can get away with charging anyone to play this course. Its an absolute waste of time and money. Stay away until summer - even then, call before hand to see if they ever decide to start watering. This review may sound a bit harsh considering its based off of a March date, but at the time of of this review, I had already played 4 times (at other courses) and all of those courses were in great shape. Of course theyre not fully green and you have to expect late winter/early spring conditions this time of year but Applewood takes the cake for bad conditions. Drinking water was not available on the course, no ball washers on the carts or on the course. Staff in the pro shop have always been a bit rude and bothered by their customers.

Six years ago I vowed never to play this course again for a couple reasons. One, play is always slow, always. Even if you have a tee time in the morning it is a 5.5 hour plus round. Ridiculous for a course that is only 6300 yards. Two, course is terribly maintained. Brown grass everywhere, greens not taken cared of, divots everywhere. I decided to give this course a try again yesterday. Not by choice but because we waited too long and this was the only course that had an open tee time in the morning when we like to go out. My second experience here was worst then the first one. Im just going to list bullet points of things that are wrong with this course to keep this review short as I can ramble on when I feel so passionate to let others know to make an informed decision. Here we go: 1. Course maintenance has not gotten any better. Worse actually. 2. Play is slower than it was 6 years ago. 3. Mentioned the slow play to the ranger and all the backups on each and every hole. The ranger and his cart buddy look at us and say what backups. Seriously? And why are there two of you in one cart. 4. They were having a tournament and threw us out on the 3rd hole with the tournament to play our round. Who does that? They decided to fill up a shotgun scramble to penny pinch innocent golfers reserving tee times online and not even offering a discount mentioning anything about your group possibly starting off on any hole with hundreds of golfers. 5. Golfers are constantly yelling at each other because of this poorly maintained and non caring management that this place has. 6. I was not allowed to walk the course becuase they sent us out in the middle of a tournament. Course is way over priced. $50 with a cart for what is not much better than an executive course. Will never come back again. And if you love to enjoy a round of golf dont come to this place. Not sure how it still exists.

Saturday rates was around 45 per person with cart. The course is in horrible condition. The driving range will make you laugh. It was mostly weeds and sand. The first two wholes were in decent condition. After that it went down hill. You go from driving on a paved cart path to a completely dirt road (the remainder of the course). The tee boxs are not maintained and most of them you are hitting from dead grass. There is NO starter. So the course was completely backed up. It took use 5 hours to play(with passing one small group) the course when we averaged 88 (shots) for our group. Other courses around the same price, but much better Homestead - Morning rates are the same (executive) Raccoon Creek - Mid day rates are the same Fossil trace- Twilight rates are the same.

Very poorly maintained and managed course. Rough is dirt and dandelions. Course covered in little bits of trash that make it hard to find ball. None of the traps were raked. Used a groupon and will never go back. Did not disclose that its a day care for kids during the week. Youth camps overrun the range and putting greens, and the staff teaching them are letting kids run across hole 10. Also heard a staff member essentially threaten a kid who was not listening. Despite a menu in bar only thing for lunch was hot dogs. Bar overrun by kids. Asked for a rain check after 9 holes because I felt ill suddenly, some lame excuse about how I had to call groupon. Didnt bother arguing because no interest in going back.

Course was fun, and if you get the groupon its definitely worth it. Not the best course Ive played. Im from up north, but my friends and I saw the groupon and jumped at it. We were expecting an awful course based on the reviews, and were pleasantly surprised. Pro shop staff and bar staff were friendly, driving range is nice with actual distance markers, and course overall was in great shape. Lots of tee boxes were closed as they had just planted sod or something. once those open, they will be great from the looks. Be warned though, their rough is seriously thick. It wont look like it, but you WILL lose club speed. Not used to that.

Great course. Some of the negative reviews were when CO was in a major drought. The last two years (rainy) this course has been great. Staff is friendly, relaxed pace and not uppity. Plus you cant beat 18 holes for 18 bucks for their twilight hours. Mid June-Early July you can easily get in 18 if you dont get stuck behind slow parties. If you do, the staff is pretty good with rain-checks. The backdrop is great too, mountains right there. Only complaint is their lack of a chipping green but they dont seem to mind if you chip at the putting green as long as there are not a lot of people putting.

I give this course a one-star rating only because it has holes and flagsticks. Applewood gives a new and very negative meaning to the word "golf." The course has a horrible design, dead driving range, snail pace of play, undetected (i.e., so bad it is doubtful there is any) course maintenance, terrible drainage, frequently parched and bare areas due to lousy irrigation system, goose droppings everywhere, third-rate snack bar, and everything else you could want to rank this the worst golf course in Jefferson County, if not all of Denver. Stay away.
