This is a beautiful park that I would have really wanted to stay a few days longer. Just a few miles outside of town it is a quiet retreat. This is a very modern park. You will see plenty of deer in the evening. There were reports of a bear in the area so take the necessary precautions. Now on to the reasons I couldnt fathom giving this park a higher rating........ I was questioned multiple times within 10 minutes of my arrival if I purchased my daily park pass. They made me feel like I was trying to sneak in to their dear park without paying. I talked to several people affiliated with the park and though they seemed pleasant they just came across as if they dont tolerate anything there. So I go to set up my tent and immediately the camp host or whoever it was immediately comes over and tells me to put my decal on my camp site. Like Dude, you can see I pulled up 2 minutes ago and you are already sweating me to put up my sticker for my site. Just bad vibes all around from the people. The worst part of the entire stay was when my daughter and I walked to the bathrooms to take a shower only to learn they didnt work!!!! After speaking to a few other folks we learned we had to hop in our car and go to another part of the park to PAY to use the showers. Perhaps this is a Colorado thing but I have NEVER paid to use the showers at state parks. We were on a cross country road trip and camped at 5-6 state parks. It would have been nice to know at the time we checked in that we better be prepared to pay to wash ourselves. This is a very nice park that just needs better communication and friendly people.

Horrible! We will never stay at this "campground" again. We live in the Ozarks on 40 acres with no neighbors, traffic noise or light pollution. This had all of those things in spades and more. Breathtaking views?! Of a huge city? Not our cup of tea. City folks would probably love this place. We thought we had paid for everything (several months in advance) but when we arrived found that we were going to be charged $7/day to park our vehicle! You should also know that you have 15 minutes to be in their precious park without a parking permit or will be issued a citation. The highway noise can be heard loud and clear as well the helicopters doing night training exercises right over us. Fort Carson is a stones throw away from this park too so get used to being jolted out of bed bright and early by a bugle. 6 am to be precise and again 15 minutes later just in case you had the idea you could go back to sleep. The bugle sounds off again around 5 pm and then plays "taps" at 10 pm. The bear rules are over the top ridiculous so you are not even allowed a bottle of water in your camp unattended, yet you are surrounded by McMansions and suburbia all around the park who obviously have trash cans out for collection and bbq grills wafting yummy scents through hills. Id give this -10 stars if it was an option.

Really cool state park high up on the side of Cheyenne Mountain. Weve been in campsites with expansive views before but never out across a metropolitan area like Colorado Springs. Sitting out at night watching the lights of the city made for quite a contrast to our usual more sparsely populated vistas, pretty cool! Sites are well spaced and level. Verizon signal is good if not that fast, AT&T is good signal as well but slower than Verizon. Access in to Colorado Springs is easy. Laundry is available. Hearing reveille and taps is pretty entertaining as long as you dont mind loud bugles at 6:30 AM and 10:00 PM. The major downside to this park is that dogs are not allowed anywhere other than campground roads. There is an extensive trail network but dogs arent allowed on any of them. The ridiculous thing is that were not talking just back country trails but also the simple short things that connect roads to campground loops, pretty excessive.

To start, we called the visitor center (number listed on the website) 4 days in a row trying to get through to rent a camping space...left multiple messages and never got called back. Finally found another number hidden on the website and got an answer...was told that 7 spaces would be open the day we were wanting to come in, just to call between 10-12. We check at 10:30 and they tell us they cant get us a spot till after 12. So we kill some time and call back at 12:15 only to be told that the 7 spaces that opened were given away already (by a rather snarky visitor center employee at that). Really unimpressed by the employees, wouldnt ever consider staying here!

Dont understand the positive reviews. Pretty much just a city type park. Noisy and bright from the city. For some reason there is a playground structure as if being outdoors in the woods isnt enough of a playground. Also overpriced in the off season when there are no showers and very limited bathrooms (no pit toilets). Why am I expected to pay the same in the off season as in the summer when I dont have any of the amenities? Nice trails and scenery is all I can say good. Be prepared to wake up to revelle every morning on a loudspeaker at Ft Carson. Dont be fooled. This is one of the worst state parks for camping if you want peace and quiet.

The camping here is pretty good, but with little shade in most camping spots. There are good views of the city at night and the mountain. The trials are enjoyable and well marked. The amenities are fine, but paying for a shower is a bit cumbersome. I understand paying for laundry services, but this is only the second time Ive had to pay for a shower, in years of camping. The kids enjoyed the programs provided by the park rangers and we also had a good time at the archery range. This park is close to Fort Carson, so you can hear the bugle calls, but I was never awakened by them...I just noticed them at the the times I was already awake.

Nice campground if youre on the upper area. Full during the time we went. Hiking trails are nice. Most sites have a great view. Campground services can be spotty. One lady was awesome, another day, the gal couldnt even assign one site properly. She took forever. And seem to accomplish nothing with efficiency. Curt and short with customers. No customer service. $30 for full hook ups but you pay for day pass every day per vehicle. $7 x # of vehicles x # of days. Lame. Nice facilities. Charge for showers, $1 for 4 minutes. Despite charging for every little thing, very nice campground.

Lovely area, with camping near the top... Overlooking Colorado Springs, which is a USAF town... Occasional drones and aircraft activity, but not noisy. Be warned... The USAF play Taps each morning at 6am across the entire town... Getting up to see the sunrise anyway is well worth it! The famed "Cheyenne Mountain Complex" tunnel from Stargate series is further up the mountain, but NOT accessible, with big signs at highway level saying official business access only, so even "Dumb tourists" cant go up there by "mistake"... And yes, I did think about it, but decided against it! ;)
