CommonGrounds Golf Course is conveniently located east of downtown Denver. The course is quite flat and easily walkable plus they have a great caddie program. Caddies work on a no charge, tips only basis. I was told the course opened in 2002 and has hosted many tourney events. Last year they suffered a flood that caused closures for some time but it was it super shape when I played it with my nephew late July this year. The course was built on an old Air Force base for the benefit of the Colorado Golf Association (CGA) and the Colorado Womens Golf Association (CWGA). Favorable rates are given for members of the State Golf Associations. Tom Doak used his "width that matters" concept in designing the layout with bunkers, marshland, water, etc. in strategic positions. The fairways are generally wide and the adjacent roughs are soft and thick but the deep roughs are very penal. The course has 4 tee boxes (black, gold, white and red). But it offers two more good options: gold/white and white/red. My nephew and I played the Gold/White at 6,497 69.3/120 and that was perfect for us as wed been beaten up playing blue tees in the mountain courses for the previous 3 days. We played on a Tues AM after suffering some tough Denver morning rush hour traffic so we had no time to warm up. We started on the 10th hole following a relatively slow ladies league. But when we made the turn to the front side play was nice and fast. The greens were in excellent shape. The fairways were very wet and lush due to heavy recent rains. The course has a nice mix of old cottonwood trees, pines, marshlands and some neat combinations of green-fairway-tee box all neatly closely cropped. On the par 5 3rd hole stay to the right side of the fairway to avoid a mean left center bunker. Then use the backstop behind and left of that green to hold your approach shot. The par 3 14th hole is a tough one. Hit the club that gives you the confidence for a straight shot between the mounds protecting this little rascal. Check out the number of holes that are 400+ yd par 4s before you select your tee boxes for the round. Although we were near downtown Denver the course was very peaceful. We even had 7 deer run past us on the 8th tee box. CommonGrounds obviously does a great job with their teaching programs. I didnt get a chance to try it but I saw their Par 3 course south of their practice field. This course is only $10- for adults and free for juniors. Ill give that a try before my 18 next time Im in Aurora.

One of my favorite public courses! If you remember when this course was Mira Vista you will understand how much better CommonGround is. When you play this course you will either love it or hate it. If you hate it the first time you play it I would say play it again because that is what I did and I have grown to love this course. It has a very unique style to it with plenty of bunkers, subtle elevation changes, huge undulating greens and lots of native grass that will envelope your errant shot. The greens are like no other greens Ive ever played, they are huge, except for a couple, with hills and valleys that will make you feel like youre on a putt putt course but, if you understand the idea behind them you will grow to love them. The greens are quick and have a good amount of break to them but they have a personality of their own. The fairways were like carpet, bunkers are deep and the rough is, well, rough. I love this course but like everything on this planet has its flaws. At $65 (includes cart) it is just at the price that I wont play it several times a week, they do have a 10 play for $390 ($490 w/cart). The folks that played here before me left some pretty heft divots in the fairways that they didnt fix and the greens had plenty of ball marks left unrepaired but there had been plenty of rain the last couple days to make the course fairly soft. I could go on and on about this gem but it all comes down to what you like. I love this place from the food, to the practice facility to, pretty much, every hole. If you love golf I would highly recommend this course but dont judge it after one round after all, Bobby Jones hated St. Andrews after his first trip.

Ive been going to this course for a couple of months now nearly all of my experiences have been very nice and peaceful. The past month Ive been 3 times and have not had the same experiences.there were course maintanance workers cutting around the bunkers and raking them my friends and I waited for a while on them to finish they never even realized we were there they were on there phones the whole time and laughing and speaking loudly it was in Spanish so the subjects were unknown but I vividly remember one of the guys with his phone under his hat strap and paying 0 bit of attention to my friends and I. we pay good money to play at this course. It bothers me to see the workers not paying attention and wearing head phones listening to music and talking on the phone if I were to try to alert someone of a ball coming towards them they wouldnt hear my alert. Im not impressed with this course anymore.

I used to play at common ground about 5 times a year. For the last few years each time I am there the experience is slightly worse. I used to really enjoy it when they first opened but have found the people there have an increasingly more condescending attitude. You pay a little more and get a little less. Today after getting rained out after playing 2 holes they begrudgingly offered me a rain check for 7 holes. I have never encountered this before and found it cheap and unacceptable. I am unaware of how much they saved but am sure it was not enough to make up for my never playing there again. My Wednesday foursome played there several times a year. Never again.

Lots of golf course from the tips. Very nice layout with more than a few really great holes. Players could fix ball marks on greens.....it astounds me guys dont do that...I digress.....for some reason this has a Carolina feel to me.... standing on tee on 5 and 11....505 yd par 4. 245 yd par 3 229 par 3 and a 220 yd par 3.....thats the back....lol. seriously if you cant hit an iron 200 do not play the tips.....you will regret it. Overall I am going back to play this again....its 3 miles from Cherry Creek and is in good shape

My parents drove from OK City to watch their granddaughter in a tournament. They are both 76 years old. One suffers from Parkinsons and the other has had complications from double knee replacement surgery. They would not allow them to rent a cart and they were told they had to walk the course. Its a shame this course turns away the handicapped from spectating. We pleaded with them and they would not budge on their "so called policy".

I remember when it used to be Mira Vista, which was not well maintained and not a great layout, the reworking of the course did wonders and it might be the best course in the Denver city limits. Course is great and is a good value. Only complaint is I struggle gauging yardages on the driving range as its pretty flat and wish the hitting area was a bit more elevated so you could see long iron and wood landings a little better.
