Always a fine experience eating here. Today I also took the walking tour around the building by following the little pamphlet given out at the front desk. The building is the second Hayes mansion which was finished in 1905. The first mansion built in 1891 burned down in 1899. The Hayes family seems to have had a problem with fire, even with a fire fighting system built into the new mansion there was a fire in the house and fires in other buildings on the property. When you read the plaques on the pictures you will find out about what burned down and when. But fire is not something to worry about if you chose to stay at this modernized hotel, so go ahead and book a weekend for yourself. Fridays and Saturdays seem to be the best deals for room rates. The grounds in this hotel are pretty, the pool is comfortable to sit about or swim in. There is a bar as well as an outdoor space to sit and have a drink. There are many nooks to sit in and enjoy a good read. Many companies hold meetings and conferences during the week in the many rooms available. This is a historic hotel and you will feel like you are in the last century, but with modern WiFi connection and air conditioning. The restaurant has excellent service, delicious food and elegant decor. This is a nice place for lunch and today I had the chefs salad, which was large and delicious. You can also have Sunday brunch here and it is excellent, but it is more of a formal dress up affair for most people. You can come casual too, but a collared shirt would help you fit in for dining here. This is a luxurious and historic place and a real treat right in South San Jose. Across the front lawn is Edenvale Garden Park where you can stroll or jog around and get some exercise. This hotel is owned by the City of San Jose and is hospitality managed by Dolce Hotels and Resorts. Since it is a city property, you can go and check out the historic aspect of the hotel. If you come, eat some lunch, its not expensive and it is really good, and like I said the dining room is elegant. Have a look at my pictures and see what a nice place this is. Highly recommended.

From the outside, the hotel is amazing to look at. Its surrounded by palm trees and the grounds are well kept. However, I must say that Ive stayed in Comfort Inns that are better than this hotel. Some of the pictures on the website are deceiving. The inside of this hotel is older. The room we stayed in had rust in the tub and the faucet. There was an awful thumping noise that lasted all night and kept us up. Upon seeking the manager, we found out that it was the air conditioning unit. I feel that if they already knew what the noise was, why would they book that room. Our view was terrible, we were facing a trailer park. There was some kind of red stain on the drapes. The elevator had huge hand prints going down the inside of the panels and it was never cleaned. And upon checking out, I saw a mouse run across the front door. However in their defense maybe it was an outside mouse. I dont know. The luggage guy was nice, that was the only benefit of my stay. I was literally nervous about laying on the bed. If you prefer modern, clean hotels, this is not the place for you. Most of the reviews are from people who havent stayed at the hotel. Dont believe the hype.

There are many reasons I stay at the Dolce Hayes Mansion when I visit San Jose. Of course, it is beautiful and oh so comfortable and luxurious, and the food is incredible, but the way they treat their guests stands out. I don’t feel I am treated as a customer; I am truly treated as a guest. All of the staff goes out of their way to make sure I am having a pleasant visit. I have only stayed here a few times over the past several years, but I am amazed at the number of employees who have remembered me, even though I have been only one of hundreds of guests they see each day. They have stopped what they were doing to say “welcome back”. In our impersonal world where often customers are treated as only a conduit to profit, I can’t help but think that the staff at the Hayes Mansion treat their guests in the same manner that the Hayes family would have treated their guests more than a century ago. I would (and do) highly recommend it to anyone who is lucky enough to visit San Jose.

I arrived at around midnight with a reservation but a full house so I got the last room on the very back building so the walk was a nice workout. Entered the room to find a spider welcome me as it dangled from its Web in the entrance to the bathroom. The wood furniture looks like it hadnt been refurbished for a few decades. The tile floor was filthy in between the tiles and the wood trip on the door frames had not been properly freshened up in a few years. The TV had the most annoying cable connection as the signal would go in and out resulting in an audio delivery that was less than optimal. The main building and grounds are impeccable but at least this room was not even a 2 star rating. For the money I paid, I should have stayed at the Epiphany in Palo Alto/Menlo Park,. Unfortunately, given how late I arrived into San Jose, I wasnt in the mood to drive, especially since I was expecting a true mansion experience. Lesson learned.

Came here for mine and my husbands 1 year anniversary on 10/29/16 and was deeply disappointed. We drove 3 hours from Reno, greeted with a very rude employee. We have an email and verbal confirmation that wed receive a special gift to celebrate our occasion (there was nothing). The front desk employee was distracted by friends and other associates that left him no room for welcoming or engaging in pleasant conversation with us. There was a wedding going on that evening and the following days including that night the hotel and lobby were poorly kept up. When we got into our room it was of course nothing like the pictures (very plain). The bathtub was clogged, the was a cockroach crawling around. I was very very upset, I was very much looking forward to a beautiful experience. I DO NOT recommend coming here! It was very over priced for the poor quality experience. Id give this place more stars if the company made it right.

My boyfriend and I staid there for a wedding on the weekend, it is an older building but friendly staff and we enjoyed the pool because it was nice and quiet. We also checked out the gym , which we loved really good workout area especially for a hotel. After we went to spa , we only got the 30 min tension relief because it was very booked but it was amazing and they did a very good job. Make sure if you are booking spa package do it in advance because there is lots of weddings at this hotel and it gets booked fast. Besides that I had a good stay only bad thing I could say is that I wish they had healthier options on menu, and more gluten free options. Before I left I left my Louis Vuitton Purse there in my room, and with the help of Security Manager "Anthony" , he located it and made sure to notify me right away and is getting it shipped to BC. Thank you so much , and we will be back again :)
