Chinatown is exactly what you think of it. There is Chinese stuff and its kinda like a small town. Anyways first thing is first, parking is ABSOLUTELY horrendous but this is the city so it is expected. Your best bet to park is a parking garage and since there is a abundant of garages to choose from, you should park in the cheapest one you can find! I say this because most of the streets is posted with no parking 7AM-6PM or parking only at 8AM-3PM. They WILL tow your car if you are not parked in the correct spots! Anyways back to Chinatown! Best place to start is Dragons gate which is the start of Chinatown! You have many shops, restaurants and gift shops on this street Make sure you stop on by some bakeries and grab some Chinese style goods! Now for the gift shops, they are abundant but some of the items are really cheap as in low quality but thats tp be expected. Theres one shop where they sell deformed knock off Pokemon so save your money in that store or youll end up with a giant squirtle head with a mini squirtle body. Between the numerous shops are murals hidden in alleyways so make sure you look both sides because you will miss some awesome ones! There is a multi colored steps art, tiger art, and dragon art which is the most popular ones. There are several other ones scattered throughout Chinatown. Its a really nice place to come and best of all it is walking distance from little Italy so if you want to explored two neighborhoods, its a plus!

The food is not that good, there are so many people that it makes it hard to get around. We got separated from my daughter, when I turned around and saw she was not there. I started to yell out for her, I got on the phone with the police while my husband ran around looking. The police asked for the cross street, I tried asking the people that are in every corner handing out flyers, but I was ignored. When my husband was finally able to get a hold of her by phone, we realized she was right at the same corner where we got separated. She had been crying but no one asked her if she was ok, our kids are always told that if we get separated not to go with anyone but instead to ask for a phone to call us or the police. Lucky she had her phone with her, I doubt anyone would have helped her by handing her a phone or calling the police. That was the longest 7 min of my life. After that moment we left as it was really hard to get around. If you decided to stop here be careful with little ones. There are so many people that it is very easy to get separated. I would also wait to eat somewhere else, we stopped in two different places and did not like the food.

San Francisco s China town is probably one of the largest in the US (the one at Flushing New York is definitely much larger). However it is more a tourist attraction place instead of a functional community for Chinese immigrants (the Flushing Chinatown is very functional in this case). There are many good Chinese restaurants here in addition to numerous tourist sovineur shops. It is interesting or disturbing to learn that most Americans impression of China comes from their visit to the Chinatown. It is sad to see the descendents of Chinese immigrants are no longer aware what is going on inside morden China. And they help to foster stereotypical images of Chinese--cloth shoes, pigtails and paper fan--just look at their shop displays which could only be found 100 years ago. They should have something more representive of modern China.

Ive been here 3-4 times. The first time I went they were having a festival and there was a show with this guy doing amazing yo-yo tricks. Its a nice place to visit because of all the little shops and theres a variety of inexpensive tourist stuff you can purchase. It gets a little old after awhile, its run down, and the bathrooms are unusable. I went here with a friend and she got profiled pretty badly, she was wearing sunglasses when we walked up to this booth that was selling sunglasses and the lady selling them took my friends sunglasses out of her hands to see if it was her product. I pretty much only go here for the atmosphere and the occasional tourist or anime trinket thats difficult to find elsewhere.

My favorite Chinatown in San Francisco, in California, in USA, in North America? Theres a lot of foot traffic, good or bad? Good food, vibrant atmosphere, interesting alley ways, Chinese Opera Scene? I noticed that the lanterns are relatively new and looks like they did a good job re-painting the lantern posts. Please excuse me if I walk too fast and bump into you. I might be on my way to get in line for the pork buns at one of the Dim Sum to go places. I have added photos of the Mid-Autumn festival which is an annual street fair that takes place usually around end of Summer or early Fall. There are a couple of Festival weekends also every year around the Lunar New Year. See you at the Lunar New Year parade?

SF Chinatown is one of the largest and oldest in the west coast. I consider myself really lucky to be minutes away. I passed by here daily on my way to the FiDi. As of late, Im concerned about the changing landscape. Sidewalk used to be so packed that people walk on the street. When I mean packed, I mean Grant Ave from California St to Broadway filled with tourist and locals doing their daily grind. Yes, I know what its like walking through in the morning. Icky sticky sidewalk, smell of incense, wads of mucus, double park delivery trucks, seniors chilling at bakeries, pushy grannies, sounds of MJ tiles shoveling, CNY celebration, lion dancing, funeral by Green St mortuary etc. Ahhh, what fun right?

One of the oldest and biggest Chinatowns in this country! So amazing you will feel you have been transported to China. Grant street is more touristy and Stockton street is more legit and will be where the true Chinese shop and hang out. Much more unique spots and less gift shops on Stockton. It will take about an hour and a half to two to fully see Chinatown so dont cut yourself short and make sure you get around to all of it! This is totally a bucket list kind of stop and be sure to enjoy the Chinese Bakeries, tea shops and cheap gift shops! Pick up a lucky trinket or two or some very unique and cheap souvenirs

I like this Chinatown in San Francisco. Its big a genuine. It doesnt have great Chinese visual attractions for tourists like the one in Los Angeles neither a great Chinatown gate but on the other side the population is quite high, the area where is located is very good and the shops and stores you can find are cheap and Chinese style as well the people. A lot of people complain about been dirty and noise, or people spitting. Yes, but what do you expect about Chinatown? A Beverly Hills? Its like going to Little Italy and complaining about Italians moving his hands while talking or restaurants with pizza and pasta.
