I am planning on visiting this store, today as a matter of fact. I shouldve written a review after returning home and thinking about my overall experience the 6th Street Aquarium. What makes me decide on whether or not to spend my time traveling to such store, are peoples reviews. Especially when Im going to walk a few blocks and have to wait on Muni to transfer between. Time and money spent if this place is worth it. So I cant wait, do look forward to it. One thing...I will rate and review again after my own experience. Anyway I based on everyones reviews, I believe the reason there were dead fish in their tanks is likely because of the fact they offer "SELF-SERVE" to the customer. Come on people, of course theres gonna be dead fish. All those hands that have contaminated those tanks, not to mention those fish were accidentally dropped on the floor. Ooops! The employee aint watching...Put back in the tank to get a different one. Common sense people??? Knock knock, anyone up in there? Anyway, far as that goes...Well see, Im sure the experience will be worth going. Update: I did come out to visit this aquatic store, and I literally spent 2-3hrs looking around. Theres 2 floors. So I am not going to begin to write because I could right an essay literally. Anyway, out of any other store around, this one is the best. Prices are great, Id say very very affordable. On SUNDAYS, every Sunday is the day to shop there as theyve got 50% off select live marine and freshwater fish.

When I was younger I use to come here all the time I really enjoyed it because I love fish and animals in general and also besides it was the closest aquarium near me. actually I changed my review, this place is awesome sometimes they have nurse sharks here but unlike other popular pet stores the fish here are actually a pretty good deal. If any of you guys want like a ray I forgot what kind it was cuz its been like 2-3 years since I last went there but the point is they have a lot of fish there! If you go trick-or-treating there on Halloween the give out fish. They also have I think a eel there too! Well I remember they have a ramora I think its called that. Im not an expert though. All these fish Ive mentioned is what I remember but they might have already been sold. But I have one question for this place how do you get the shark and stuff because if its self served you get this little plastic bucket so do you like ask the employees or something because Im pretty sure that bucket is way too small for a shark though a nurse shark isnt that big.oh yeah! And they have turtles too! But all in all this place is awesome and you should check it out if you live near 6th avenue! Id go there any day if I got the chance even if I can buy anything Id rather go there than not going there because I get to see their fish and see what fish do they still have that Ive seen when I was like 7. WHY AM I READING 8 YEAR OLD REVIEWS!? Lol

Heres the thing. This place is a business. They (as far as I can tell) to not give a flying flip about the fish or anything else in the store. The tanks need cleaning, there are a few dead fish, and fish are mislabeled. So why is it my favorite fish store in the bay? Why on EARTH am I giving them 5 stars? 3 reasons: 1. Selection: You will simply not find anything close to their selection of fish. 2. Pick out and net your own fish. I cannot fully express how much I love this. 3. Prices. Prices are half of everywhere else, at least. Plenty of people have complained about fish deaths, but so far my father and I have only had two- a Peacock eel, which was dead when we got home, but we actually blamed ourselves for this one. He probably got squished under another bag of fish. And a Cherry Red Shrimp, which I accidentally dropped on the fish store floor and took several minutes to get back in the net, but bought anyway. Weve bought dozens of fish and corals here, and theyre thriving. So dont be scared off by that. I always spend at least an hour here, and their driftwood prices are superb. Great quality stuff. To sum up: This is not a NICE fish store. This is a fish store to buy large quantities of cheap rare fish. Go into that fully aware, and youll have a good time.

This place has a variety of fish but everything is kept in such awful conditions. I came in to buy some coral and a goby but ended up buying nothing because I felt wrong to support a place like this. Upon a number of things you will see many fish crammed into small tanks, some which have already died. They are not just put into small tanks but also givin limited lighting and food. You will see fish with diseases as they have a white growth on their scales, crabs eating other dead crabs, fish lying on the floor of the tank barely breathing, and you will also notice the coloration of the water as an opaque yellow where the majority of the fish are held in. If you own a saltwater tank you know any coloration in the water is a bad sign. I was going to purchase some fish to take them out of this misery but this would mean I would be supporting this businesses to get more fish and also subject them to this. My advice to everyone is go somewhere else where it may be 2$ more expensive. This place is not selling you a good deal since your buying sick fish.

Its too bad Yelp does not have a 0 star. I am a biology teacher with a 100 gallon tank and this place was recommended to me to fill it. In many of the tanks there were dead fish floating around and many of the other fish looked lethargic/ill. One of the two young guys working there was interested in cleaning the tanks when I pointed out the dead fish and was pleasant. The other guy was extremely rude to him as well as me. He told me he didnt care, walked away from me and slammed the back door literally in my face when I pointed out to him a fish who was very ill but still alive and was missing a pectoral fin. I had about $600 to spend and was planning on spending it there. Rest assured I will never be back and I hope to tell everybody I know what poor quality store this is and how rude that employee is.

Although they have a huge variety of rare fishes, practically all of them are sick and carrying diseases. Just upon entering, the ammonia from the tanks are so strong that you can actually smell it. All the fish tanks are connected to a central filtration. That means that if one fish is carrying a disease(like ich), all the tanks are most likely to carry the disease since the tanks are all connected to each other through filtration. All the tanks are also overcrowded and they dont feed their fishes. To top it off, their customer is horrible. So, if you dont want to be disappointed and have dead fishes or a leaky tank, DONT PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM HERE. (Their tanks are cheap, but they have a 50/50 chance of leaking in a couple months or so. I would recommend the 10 and 5 gallons only. Those are hardy.)
