I am an Arizona state resident and I recently made a trip to the Whaley House Museum, when I went to San Diego to visit a friend. My boyfriend, friend and myself were going in cold turkey, having no knowledge on the history of Whaley house before visiting. While looking around in the gift shop ( the first room you enter) I felt a random cold spot on my hand but instantly wrote it off as the AC or a breeze. Then as the self guided daytime tour continued everything seemed relatively normal. We entered the theatre room and were just strolling and taking pictures when a worker dressed in period attire approached and asked if we had questions or anything. Mostly we talked about her role haha. While sitting down in the chairs in the theatre I felt as though my throat was constricting and I was having trouble breathing. So I drank some of my water bottle and continued on as normal listening to the conversation. Then I was asking whats some experiences the employee has had and such. I was wearing leggings and I felt what seemed like a snap of the waistband. Later once we left the room my friend and boyfriend both said they were having trouble breathing in the room like something was restrictions their airways. Also my friend Cali got the strong urge to scratch behind the ear of something. So she did. So we left the Whaley house not long after that. When I got back to Arizona I looked at all the pictures I had taken there and at first glance I saw nothing unusual, but with a second glance and a second set of eyes I found 6- 7 orbs in the pictures of the blocked off kitchen area, strange green triangular orbs and regular orbs. I also took 2 pictures withing seconds of one another of the entry way to the courtroom. In one you can see 2 appartions, one that looks like a leg. I will post the photos for you to see for yourself . Regardless of whether or not it is haunted, it was worth the $7 admission and I will certainly visit again.

Ive been to Old Town/San Diego a few times, but last week was the first time i took a "Ghost Tour" that included the Whaley House. Im honestly 50/50 on the existence of ghosts, and i didnt really expect to see one or experience anything paranormal while inside the house. I was right. I didnt see or feel anything, although my gf says she had trouble breathing. Now we both took a bunh of pictures while inside and later looked through them to see if we caught any ghosts/apparitions. Not a single one. At least not inside the house. I had been taking photos throughout the whole tour, and i discovered one, that i took outside the house right before we entered. Now in our tour, one of the persons with us, said he was skeptic, so our guide actually gave him an EMF detector. And it never actually went off/activates until outside the Whaley house, by a big tree. So i actually asked him if i could take a picture of him, holding the device detecting something (picture of his arm actually), and so i did. And i never really paid any mind to that photo, as i was focused on the ones i took INSIDE. But when i got home, i went through ALL. and there it was, the photo i took of the EMF detector blinking, right in the background corner, a man dressed 1800-ish... u can see him about 85% clear, and hes looking right at us standing about 30 ft away. It wasnt an ordinary person because the image is blurry BUT ONLY HE IS BLURRY, the environemt surrounding him is a perfect image. Thats why i truly believe it could be Thomas Whaley, because hes wearing what he wears in all the picture frames inside the house. That black tux/suit. I may be wrong but im more certain than not, and i will go back to San Diego soon, and show the people from the museum to see what they tell me. Anyways, i recommend anyone to give it a try, the host said people have gotten images from inside but i think i have a unique case and i will show them the photo when i go back :)

So if you want not only a legit historical place but, a legit haunted place then you MUST COME HERE! This place is awesome and if you stop in to the Museum before 4 pm its only 5$ to take a self guided tour of the house. After 4 pm its a guided tour for 12$. Both very much worth it and the guided tour comes with a verbal history of the house and grounds. Its pretty cool! Outside of the deep history of this place I have not come here one time and been in this house that I havent had or experienced something weird happen! Not once! I have felt Yankee Jims pressure on my neck out by the gallows, I have seen tiny orbs dance along the floor boards through the viewfinder in my phone just to snap a picture as it gets large and bright and then disappears. I have seen ghostly apparitions and figures in many of my shots, including what I think is a silhouette of Anna whaley! Its not an overwhelming creepy feeling here just kinda nice to stand next to what might be the other side and see if it jives with your energy enough to show itself. This house is from the 1700s and its absolutely amazing to be able to walk through and see how this country lived around that time. Every time Im in Old Town I have to at least walk through the court yard of the Whaley House and feel its thick history and energy. Its an amazingly cool place plus it has a couple restaurants backing right up to the courtyard and if you eat at the cajun place you can go to the bathroom in the Whaley outhouse where Violet Whaley met her death. Ohhhhhhh creepy!!

As an old house with period furniture its nice. To see how a wealthy merchant for the time lived is interesting. To see what they claim as a haunted house and take the tour of it for the backstory of the hauntings is a complete waste. The tour guides claim the house is haunted by the ghost of a person who died something like 50 years before the house was built, was never in the same area as the house, and had absolutely no ties to the house and people who lived in it. That has got to be the lamest ghost story ever imagined. For a period renovation, its decent, but creating a stage theater room that never actually existed in the house and say they "could have" done this, is an utter fail in the renovation. Now, if they were smart about this, they could claim the house is haunted by the ghost of the daughter who killed herself there, but no, they insist its a criminal who has no connection to the house instead.

Ive taken the tour 3 or 4 times, and while Ive never had a paranormal experience here, its still such a fun tour. Just looking at the original architecture, ORIGINAL furniture, actual family items, hearing the stories, and taking a trip back in time are well worth the price of admission. The tour guides are very well versed in Whaley history and the history of Old Towne San Diego and are eager to answer any questions. They dress in period clothing which also adds to the experience. Each room you enter on the tour is filled with interesting sights and a story to match. My favorite room on the tour is the small theater upstairs. Its just creepy! They encourage everybody to take lots and lots of pictures, which is nice in this day and age when most tourist traps want you to buy their souvenir books and not take pictures. I always try to make it to the Whaley House whenever Im in San Diego, and you should to!
