The San Diego Air & Space Museum has a truly fantastic collection of aircraft and spacecraft. I like the manner in which the exhibits are arranged. Some of my favorite displays are the Apollo IX command module, the Chance Vought F4U Corsair "Whistling Death" fighter from WWII. Most aeronautical historians would argue the F4U was the finest prop-driven fighter plane ever to see combat. Another favorite was the Grumman F4F-4 Wildcat which was up against another of my favorites in the museum, the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Services Mitsubishi A6M (A=Fighter, 6=Sixth Model, M=Mitsubishi Heavy Industries) Zero at the start of the Second World War. The Wildcat was slower and did not turn as quickly as the Zero. But the Zero did not have the armor or well trained pilots that flew the Wildcats. The Zero also did not have a self - sealing fuel tank, meaning that when hit, it exploded in flames. What else but the amazing North American P-51D Mustang could be at the top of anyones list of the museums aircraft. What a terrific aircraft with its Rolls-Royce V-12 engines, giving its sleek design immense speed and magnificently armed with six superb M-2 .50 Cal. Belt fed, Heavy Machine guns. The San Diego Air & Space Museum is fantasy world for aircraft lovers!

For some reason Yelp made this a "non recommended" review. Not sure why. I know Google wont let me down: A 5 star museum. This place is where its at in Balboa park. Conveniently (and appropriately) located right under the final approach course for the San Diego international airport. You can be bombarded by Southwest Airlines jet noise while basking in the museums glory. The museum itself offers an amazing insight into space and aviation history. You will see everything from a space capsule (that was actually in space) to a Blue Angels jet. This museum also does something very creative - it brings in other attractions to offset the aviation overload. Last year they brought in a Ripleys Believe it or Not display. This year they brought in a Leonardo da Vinci display. Its not only exciting for kids but parents alike. Also once a year they have a tremendous museum fundraiser honoring the "Legends of Flight". I attended one year where they had people like Chuck Yeager and Sully Sullenberger present. Its an amazing black tie event - I highly recommend it. Overall this museum is quite arguably the best in San Diego. I highly recommend it for locals and out of towers alike.

Its Spring Mother freaking break!! You have to say it like James Franco "SPRING BREAAK". In reality, I just started another semester of graduate school but whos cares. What up San Diego!?! Its great to be back. I have always considered moving here because it reminds of SF with better than OC weather combine with chill people. SD peeps are always welcome to outsiders. Even getting lost or making wrong turns, I did not experience any LA attitude from locals or the "California Howdy", composed of four fingers down and one finger up. Its Laid back. Please adopt me San Diego. Thank you Air and Space Museum! Also, shout outs to supporting a great cause. The crew here worked hard to blow our socks off. Time to get fat! I only wish I brought multiple stomachs. Some highlights included: Great DJ music Great lighting and setting. Is that a helicopter overhead? Yes, it is. The courtyard felt like an indoor and outdoor part at the same time. Exploring the museum. A lot of a fascinating stuff. I enjoyed the Da Vinci exhibit. Partying and getting educated. Flight simulation Lots of people but not overcrowded Until next time, stay classy San Diego!

Very beautiful and interesting museum. Lots of planes that made history throughout the era of aviaton. The museum follows a chronological order so as you walk through you see more recent planes. There are several WW2 planes which are very nicely kept, though i was hoping to see more modern jets. Currently only the f18 is displayed inside the modern era military jets, though all of the attention in that section is primarily dedicated to the incredible simulators they have. Really worth the price. There are also an f4 phantom, ah1 cobra and a PBY Catalina, though there is not even a single information board telling you what they are!!! A bit of a waste in my opinion. Anyways the museum deserves attention especially during the limited exhibitions they do.

Located in Balboa Park, this place is amazing. Staff was extremely friendly and they even had WWII vets volunteering. My fiance and I talked to them for some time as they had some very interesting stories. They do a great job of displaying all the history of the aircraft and the people behind them. They have both real and replica aircraft everywhere you look! Even my fiance, who was reluctant at first had a great time! We sat in a replica helicopter and did a flight simulator of a fighter jet which was cool. I could have spent hours in there but we had a flight to catch. I think it was $19.99 per ticket for an adult, but if you have a membership to AAA you get $3 off.

Lots of history, but very compact. I always bring a sketchbook to museums, and unfortunately this one offered little opportunity to use it, with the exception of the large central room. It was difficult for me to find a spot where I could sit and draw the aircraft. If youre just here to see the planes and learn about their history you wont be disappointed, as there are tons of airplanes here. I still had a good time, but I enjoyed the Flying Leathernecks Aviation Museum at MCAS Miramar more - and that museum is free! Definitely check it out if youre in the area and love aviation history.
